The company has garnered significant criticism regarding its customer service and operational effectiveness. Common concerns include a lack of responsiveness from rescue organizations, frustrating website functionality, and perceived biases against quality breeders. Many customers reported unsuccessful attempts to adopt pets, often receiving no replies to their inquiries. While some users acknowledged the platform's role in facilitating pet adoption, the overarching sentiment reflects disappointment in the service's reliability and engagement. This feedback suggests a pressing need for improvements in communication, website usability, and support for both adopters and responsible breeders.

Lousy no communication and no nothing. Multiple emails and calls put in. Don't waste your time wit "Pet blunder!
Was supposed to be house trained. However I received her dirty. She is afraid to go outside. She is not house trained. Wouldn't let me go to the kennel. Which I found out was a house. I don't think these dogs don't get what they deserve. I bet it's all about the money. I'm not sending her back. I wouldn't do that to any dog.
After filling out a ridiculous absurd application….Nobody gets back to you, about anything. Complete waste of time.
You have one job…. Connect people to animals that need a home. Make it simple to save animals lives. You have failed.
There was a beautiful bird up for adoption but had been lost, injured, didn't have much affection for people. But, I'm good with birds and extremely patient and I really wanted to give this little guy a good life. I applied twice. Weeks went by. No response either time. No emails, no nothing. Got my hopes up and was crushed. They expect you to fill out an elaborate app and go through a background check more stringent than working with people (I know, I'm a social worker) and then they either disqualify you or never respond. I think it's all a fake site to steal your personal info. Avoid this and just check the local animal shelters, like the Humane Society. Total waste of time, heartache and potential scam.
I filled out an application and gave a lot of personal information and hopes and dreams that I would find my furbaby that was needing a home. I believed this was a trust worthy and great way to find one. Unfortunately, I did three inquiries with no avail the third one I decided to contact, the shelter myself and I was informed that they never got my information they don't use them the only way to do inquiry on their pets is to come in person and fill out an application and inquiry for that particular pet. No wonder I haven't heard back. I have contacted them numerous times letting them know, as they ask how my experience was again with no avail, I believe Petfinder is ran by Purina. Not sure what. I did with my information other than try to advertise their products. I'm saddened to say they should use a different way to promote and not use somebody that is vulnerable like me in hopes to find their little companion. I'm so glad I contacted the shelter myself. I should've read reviews on Petfinder as I'm finding out. I'm not the only one with this problem. I must say it is a scam. Unfortunately it is a shame specially when a well-known company like Purina is promoting you get an email saying your inquiry on the pad is on its way and you contact the place and they've never heard of you and they don't even have any contact with the system or Petfinder. Please be careful don't get deceived and discouraged.
I adopted a young cat approximately seven months old from Petfinder in December of 2022 the process was easy. They did ask several questions to make sure the pet was going to a good home. I couldn't be happier! This is the sweetest,, most affectionate (sometimes mischievous) cat I have ever owned in my life. And I have had cats most of my 63 years of life. Thank you Petfinder, for pairing me with the perfect pet!
Hello everyone I wanted to make sure everyone was aware of a lady sailing Parvo infected Blue heelers in Campbellsville Ky Hale Beard. We picked up our pup on Friday 4/15/23 and by late Saturday night he was very sick. Got him it the vet Monday morning. She will not answer my calls which I had been calling he since Saturday she will not reply to my text or voicemail. I just want people to know. She told my husband she had a new litter of Texas Heelers. So she will be posting them am sure. So be ware. We made a deposit of 50.00 then 400.00 the day we picked him up
Besides an application process more intense than a FBI background check, they discriminate against seniors. In an era when the last 2 US Presidents are in their 70-80's, and a great deal of congress members are senior citizens, Petfinders doesn't seem to think seniors should be owning young healthy animals. We might die before the animal. As young people die daily of drug overdoses, disease, car accidents, etc., and many seniors live at home into their 90's, this is a bit arbitrary. Younger people have school, jobs, children, nightlife, career changes, and divorce. Craigslist is full of pets given up because of such live events and being "too busy" to give "enough time" to their pets. Seniors generally have time and love and experience that make them good pet owners. There is plenty of evidence that pets help seniors live longer happier lives. But Petfinders would rather only give them an older dog who it's self may fall ill or die and cost more in vet bills. Senior dogs for seniors is discrimination if it is not a choice. My grandparent's died in the mid to late 90's. My husband's grandfather died at 99. He has a mother 88 and stepdad 93 they live at home. His dad unfortunately died young at 92. Petfinder is a power broker for pets, controlling even the adoptions at most Humane societies. So if you're senior and want a young dog, I guess they'd rather you go to a breeder and pay a fortune for a pet most likely flown in from across the sea.
Absolute the worse business on the internet. Trying to adopt a dog and give him a great forever home but absolutely no response. Every link just circles me back to an adoption application and another rescue with a link to the same adoption application. I can't even see where the dog is actually at to call and ask questions since no one responds...for weeks!. Do yourself a favor and search local rescues and find your pet there. These people are a waste of time and seems more and more like nothing but a scam. Just my opinion and experience..
No help at all...not haapyvwith this group
Figures.where humans are invoved.do not, at all recommend!
I am leaving a one star review. The people running this have no idea what they are doing. We gave them all our information and they decided we can't adopt through them. What a horrible organization. Where did they even get the information from saying we only came in once to get a rabies shot. Are you kidding me. We took good care of our dogs. How else did we renew the licences for them. Sweetie, one of the first dogs we had lived to be ten. We always kept up to date one their shots when necessary.
Anyone can post an animal. No vetting is done to make sure there are no puppy mill ads. Don't trust! Rehoming fees are ridiculous, people are selling these "rescues" for profit. Ask questions, lots of questions. Ask to see vet bills for this animal, breeding info., everything because this site does not verify.
I love pet finders I was given the opportunity to adopt Tucker going three years loves him he is a cutie that bring joy.
Weeks go by with never hearing a word until 6 months later after we have already adopted elsewhere this site is useless
You have to be a part of a large pet organization. If you are an individual that fosters you won't be allowed to use petfinder. So basically the pets that could be listed on this site probably end up in bad situations more often than not because this site isn't really much of a resource at all. Especially when the larger orgs generally don't want to help smaller foster folks at all. What a harmful site this website is.
Although I understand this is a go-between to adopt a pet through other agencies, Petfinder should vet who they allow to post pets on their site. Most of these agencies don't get back to you, even after applying directly through them.
I would rather be declined than ignored. It's extremely frustrating. If an agency on their site has way too many negative reviews/issues, they shouldn't be allowed to use thier site, because it makes Petfinder look bad.
Just like many reviews on this site, I sought their service after losing my precious Jack-Chi after 16yrs of love & care. For days they wouldn't respond to my inquiries. Finally some anonymous lady responded "you're on schedule for a call back". I got a call from "unknown", I receive a lot of spam calls for donations & surveys so I don't answer them. She left a vm "this is in response to your inquiry about Buddy and I can't leave you a phone#. She also emailed that she tried to contact me and to let her know when's the best time. So I responded to her email to call anytime and I'll answer though I don't answer calls from unknown sources. Mind you this is after a whole week & several emails she/they responded. She called a few hours later, I thanked her for the call, she asked if I had other dogs, I told her my story how I lost my dog after 16yrs and looking for a good companion. She coldly said that I'm not a good fit since I've no other dog. This woman has never seen me, doesn't know me and telling me right off the bat I'm not a good fit! Thanked her for her time & hung up asap. Don't waste your time with these unlovely "dog" lovers. Purina aught to be ashamed of itself for sponsoring these idiots.
I had the worst experience you could ever want to experience from this company. I wanted to adopt a pet for my child. I found one and "Lisa Collins scheduled an appointment, then changed it without even letting me know. Then asked me to pick another time, which I did. She then rescheduled saying she was not In town. Then after that she stated that someone else was picking up the pet that we already were waiting to get. She was very unprofessional and unconcerned. She acting as if she didn't care one bit about me and my family. Very unacceptable, she should not be employed or working for this business at all. Again her name is Lisa Collins. We were left without a puppy for our child for our family for the Holidays.
My application was declined because I don't take my HEALTHY SPAYED INSIDE CATS to the vet regularly. I was declined approval for this therefore I was forced to BUY a dog. I have many customers who have similar stories. Had I LIED about having cats, I would have been approved. The director needs to be replaced with another, with realistic adoption policies otherwise their homeless pet numbers will continue to increase. Smh
No response back from them after many time of trying to reach. Their website is not updated and so disappointed with their services.
Answer: Not sure if Petfinders does this but AdoptaPet.com does.
Answer: They may be a legitimate site but they make it extremely difficult to use and arbitrarily refuse to allow you to use their platform. We started the process to list our foster rescues and it was so horrible that we looked up their reviews. We read many reviews of rescues that were taken down without warning or any reason. They use their staple response of: "We have determined that your group is not eligible for Petfinder membership at this time. Our Terms of Service state that eligibility for membership is determined at the sole discretion of Petfinder."
Answer: The only answer you will ever get is "contact the place/person you got the animal from or who has the animal". NOTHING ELSE.
