The reward system is a rip off
February 29, 2016

The dining cheque was taken away and was replaced with amazon or dining gift cheque that is no good to the least. The Amazon check is valued only at 50 cents per 100 points which is way below from the 1 dollar per 100 points before. Where did the other half go? They charge the restaurant same fees... Dining cheque is so limited on choices and very unflexible. A classic case of they get you in and once youre there they rip it off. Not so good practice for loyal users.

Beware when purchasing gift cards on-line
February 27, 2016

I purchased a gift card on-line for Sam's Chowder House through Open Table.

I look at my bank statement and they charged me 3 times, yes 3 times. I called their company, a call center, and was on hold for 25 minutes. I left my name and number and no one called back. I called again that same day and talked with a customer service person, who seems to be outsourced. They said some times that happens and I just have to wait and see if the charges get taken off.

It's not their money, so why should they care. This is the first time I used this service and will never use it again. The customer service person couldn't help me and I even asked to talk with a manager and she said there wasn't one. This company seems to be another problem with our OUTSOURCING ISSUE IN AMERICA! VOTE FOR THE RIGHT PRESIDENT ON THIS ISSUE.

We had a dinner at The Grill at Calvary Chapel of Ft. Lauderdale Feb. 17th because your rating was 5. It was a scool/ church cafeteria and food was so bad couldn't understand how this restaurant is on OpenTable listing and rated 5.
We are on vacation had no idea about that area and just depend on your system and got shocked with this experience.

Farmhouse
February 15, 2016

We made a reservation 2 wks before Valentine's day at the Farmhouse in Kansas City and when we arrived on Feb. 14 were shown to a 2 topper near the entrance from the kitchen on the north side of the restaurant. We nicely asked the hostess if we could please be seated elsewhere so she took us to a 2 topper in the larger room near where the booster chairs were stacked (an improvement?) where servers emerged from the other side of the kitchen. Three couples were seated at 4 toppers around us within 30 minutes of our arrival so I went to inquire of the same hostess how we might in future secure a table that could hold a couple of drinks, water glasses and a bottle of wine (note we had not yet been served food and actually thought we might return in future). She told me the restaurant uses a random order assignment for tables.

Our mixed drinks were fine; the cheese tray was fine (but don't bill it as local cheese when part comes from Tillamook, Oregon), the tomato soup was ordinary but generous. Things went downhill from there. We ordered a 2009 Rhone and were given a 2011. Neither of us could eat either the lamb (billed as a leg of lamb but shredded and tasting only of preserved lemon) and the smoked chicken with dumplings (chicken tough, dumplings horseradish flavored dough balls, vegetables tough and raw).

Halfway through the meal, the manager asked if we would like to move to the four topper next to our table. She and our waiter tried to turn around an experience but it was already ruined by the hostess and chef. We departed at 7:30 and no one had been seated at the four topper next to us during the 90 minutes we were in the restaurant.

Lose your bizzarre system of allocating tables. The guests who are present should take precedence over the ones who you hope might arrive. It is really insulting to guests who have taken the trouble to reserve. We will not be back ever!

OpenTable Restaurant Reviews
February 9, 2016

I recently had a very bad experience at a restaurant so I completed the OpenTable online survey. OpenTable refused to post my review siting my review was in conflict with their legal agreement with the restaurants. I did not say anything horrible about the restaurant I just noted my own personal experience. I also complimented the restaurant in their efforts to correct their shortfall. I no longer trust OpenTable reviews, of any restaurant, as I personally feel that they are all skewed to a positive review of every establishment. I think it is sad that many people, myself included, make dining decisions on misrepresented reviews. I will no longer user their service.

I booked dinner for two to celebrate my girlfriends Birthday, using OpenTable.

Had it confirmed, turned up at the restaurant, to find the restaurant didn't even open on the night we booked.

OT responded to my email, by cancelling my booking. Don't risk a terrible night, book direct with restaurants.

Open table sold me out
January 28, 2016

Since using open table to book a reservation while on a vacation I have gotten NUMEROUS scam phone calls and emails from out of state/out of country numbers referring to IRS issues and Bank card issues on bank cards I don't own. This is a VERY suspicious coincidence that mere days after using this exclusive service I am inundated with scammers on my personal unpublished cell phone number and an alternate email that I only use for online ordering etc. I will never use open table service again to keep from having my info sold to scam artists. It's great that they are making money on both ends! It is the American way to reap as much profit as you can and screw the customer! What happened to standards? Too lazy to just call a resturant, keep using open table, or boycott this service and those restaurants that use it exclusively. There are good places and good food everywhere and evidently unscrupulous businesses that give no option to contact them personally with your complaints, also very convenient...

I booked a table for my Australian guests back in October for the busiest Christmas night of the year the 18th of December 2014; a treat in Edinburgh! The booking reservation was given by text on my phone for 7 people at Malones Irish bar... only Malones don't accept Opentable as we found out that evening! I'll give Malones the thumbs up they squashed us in and served us, but it was not the Christmas meal we expected... but then everywhere else was booked! I have been asking Opentable why their system let us down? 5 weeks later they are blaming Malones. Opentable's word against a company that is not signed up with them! Come on Opentable how can you book a meal for 7 people give them the reservation and then say sorry the restuarant that is not signed up with you made a mistake? Give me the evidence?

Don't trust bookings with Open Table
December 31, 2015

Booked with Open Table only to be told an hour before the reservation that it wasn't valid because the restaurant is actually closed. Huge disappoint and a ruined evening. Contact the restaurants directly, do not trust this website.

No Care for Consumers
December 23, 2015

If I could give a negative 10 stars, I would. Juniper & Ivy purports to sell gift cards online and their marketing representative, Krista Kerr, made a blatant misrepresentation to me that Juniper & Ivy does "offer gift certificates, you may purchase on our website." Not true. Open Table sells the gift certificates. And when I ordered and paid for it through Pay Pal, complete with receipt (receipt showing Treat Technologies, Inc., as the payee), the intended recipient never received it which was supposed to be delivered by email. When I contacted Krista Kerr of Juniper & Ivy, she shirked responsibility for the failed delivery and referred me to Open Table. Open Table could not provide me an explanation other than to claim that perhaps the transaction was not completed despite the fact that I provide Open Table, Juniper & Ivy and Treat Technologies proof of completion. Moreover, my bank reflects "PAYPAL INST XFER ******* OPENTABLE" on the date of the transaction. No further response by any of the three merchants despite my repeated emails to them. Apparently, their holiday is more important than mine and I am out $150, my sister doesn't have her gift and they're enjoying the holiday without a care for their customer. I will never frequent Juniper & Ivy and I urge you not to as well. I also would think twice about ever using Open Table for anything, but certainly never buy a gift card if it is involved in the transaction.

Mermaid Inn, Upper West side, NYC
December 23, 2015

Our family of 8 had brunch at the Mermaid Inn on Sunday -- a great dining experience. The brunch menu is extensive -- lots of great choices and we tried many of them. From eggs benedict with smoked salmon to huevos rancheros to quinoa salad to heartwarming mac and cheese. The fruit salad/yogurt plate was a perfect accompaniment and I loved my croque monsieur -- to die for -- as good as in Paris and served with an ample array of greens. Service was excellent as well and the facility has been expanded to two full rooms. I was impressed and will definitely return.

We were recently in NYC to celebrate our anniversary! We LOVE Fiorello's... always! However, we had to make a show and the kitchen seemed slower than usual! Carlo, the manager, understood our dilemma and while we made the show, we felt somewhat rushed! Both our waiters, Kevin and Brian, were sensitive to our needs and gave us complimentary Prosecco (wonderful!) However, Carlo Mariani, the terrific manager at Fiorello's, was not satisfied with the service and asked us to return following the Opera for desserts and drinks!
We did that... and were treated splendidly! Carlo even gave both my husband and I paper bags filled with rolls, croissants, muffins and morning cakes... for our breakfast the next day. We so appreciated the fine food AND the way in which we were treated because of the kitchen delay! Thanks Carlo, Kevin and Brian! We shall return, as we always do, but wanted to share how a really professional food establishment treats its customers! Bravo!

Bistro at Aspen Grove
December 7, 2015

Since our family had decided to eat Thanksgiving dinner out, I was busy looking for a nice restaurant that would work for us. I went to the Bistro web site and was very impressed. I especially liked the idea of the white table cloths and napkins. I called the Bistro to see if they took reservations and they told me they did for 5 or more. There were just 4 of us, so Thanksgiving Day my husband and I were the first to arrive and we were very surprised to see just 4 cars there in the parking lot and then 2 of the cars left when we were waiting for the rest of our party. My husband and I decided to go ahead in and were very surprised to see we were the only customers in the restaurant! The waitress seated us and after looking around, we were very disappointed that the picture on the website was very deceiving. When the waitress came to take our drink order, I told her we had decided not to stay and she asked me why. I told her about calling for reservations and what I was told and also thought the picture was deceiving. My husband and I were leaving and by this time the waitress had notified the manager what was going on, and he started following us to the door. He said "What is going on here!" I told him exactly what I told the waitress and he then promptly said J----C-----! Needless to say, we do not that use that kind of language and we will not be referring any of our friends to the Bistro at Aspen Grove!

Rip Off
December 5, 2015

I purchased a $50.00 gift card as a Christmas gift and never received it. The purchase was made 5 days ago, and I have yet to hear back from my multiple attempts at contacting customer service. The payment was taken from my account immediately, and a receipt sent stating that they would be sending the gift card electronically. It has yet to happen. How long does it really take to send an ELECTRONIC GIFT CARD? I will be claiming a dispute against their fraudulent charges.
Thanks for nothing, Open Table!

Hate the new system

New rewards program is useless!
November 24, 2015

Well leave it to the techies to ruin a good thing. Open table no longer gives out checks and instead requires an electronic certificate that is only usable at a few restaurants not all of those where you can make reservations. I will stop using open table and start making the reservations myself again.

What a way to ruin a good system.

Good bye Open Table.

Open Table review of site
October 25, 2015

I have been using Open Table for over 5 years and always very satisfied with this service until Saturday night.

My husband and I were taking out of town clients out for dinner this past Saturday night in Southampton. I went on Open Table... "The Hamptons" and made a reservation for 4 at Circo's in Southampton, NY for 6:45.

We arrived at the restaurant and it was closed! We had no reservation and had to drive around Southampton at 7:00pm looking for a restaurant that would accommodate us. My husband and I were extremely embarrassed.

When we got home, I looked further down on my Open table confirmation & I noticed that the location was changed to NYC.

Maybe Open Table needs to indicate when a restaurant that they represent is closed temporarily or seasonally, etc. This was a very embarrassing situation and leaves me less confident about booking reservations on line.

Open Table dining point system is a FRAUD!
October 22, 2015

Over the last two years, I've slowly been accumulating Open Table rewards points. Finally, I hit 2,000 points, and was looking forward to redeeming that $20 reward at a slightly more expensive restaurant than we usually go to. I went on the site and requested the $20 reward, but then found out that I can only use the reward at certain specific restaurants, which of course did not include the one I wanted to go to. To say I was pissed off is a big understatement. Open Table is a fraud. I will use those points at one of the restaurants to get some drinks, but then that that is it! I will never use Open Table again!
