I joined oDesk last year and I have been a freelancer ever since. I have failed to receive payment from one client, so to all other freelancers beware of clients who offer fixed price jobs
Yesterday I receive a email that oDesk close my account. I ask several time why and nobody give me a valid reason. They just tell me "it is final decision". And now ban my account in the community forum to not ask WHY. I have 7 feedbacks with max stars. 100% completion rate and still my account is closed and banned from the forum?
I've never seen a bigger display of mismanagement from any company in the history of businesses. This is not an exaggeration folks, it really is that bad. They only care about clients, making short-term profits and refuse to listen to feedback whatsoever.
Odesk doesn't really care. At all. Even if you are the client, agency owner or even just a freelancer, they don't care. I don't know if it's because of Elance and oDesk merger but still, they don't care.
I have my account on hold also without clear reasons. I asked them couple of times what is actual problem, they responded with some nonsenses. My rate is 4.9.
DID ANYONE TRY TO CONTACT SOMEONE RESPONSIBLE FOR ODESK BUT OUTSIDE CUSTOMER SUPPORT?
I worked on Odesk from March 2014 to March 2015. In 3rd week of March, they suspended my profile without any notice.
It took one week to get a response from them. They started asking about people who I dont even know. After that again I had to wait for 1 week to get to know they are closing my account. Reason (no reason).
I am ready to provide screen shots of conversation to show expose their $#*!.
I have earned 14,000 dollars in a year on odesk. 93% success rate. 15 Successful Projects and I brought 5 people to work on Odesk, 3 employers to hire people from Odesk. The reward got is suspension without reason and then closing of my account.
Odesk Management is bunch of $#*! WHOLES.
I have done 24 successful projects. Having 5 star in 23 project and 4.40 in 1 project. No desputes, no client complaints, good responsiveness.
There is no reason to close my account but then told me that they didn't seen improvements in my profile. I have 4.99 ratings overall then now what they want me to improve?
They are cheaters. I asked them to give me PROPER reason to close my account but they are not replying to my emails.
The Risk Management Team locked the accounts of both my developer and I without explanation. Customer Service continually promised I'd hear back in 24-48 hours. The only response I ever got from Risk Management was an email this morning -- 8 days later -- saying that they couldn't respond to my queries until my other complaints had been addressed. As I only have one complaint, their response doesn't make any sense.
They stopped my account because they found an old duplicate account that hadn't been used in ages- we had no late payments, never missed a payment and they suspended my account took them over a week to reinstate it- THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN ANY INDUSTRY
There are no words to describe how oDesk is best, I had not even the possibility to use it! To confirm the profile, that should happen in 12 hours (x2 maybe...) I had only troubles, I felt really treatened bad and the costumer service doesn't even exists or surely can't be called like that, my profile been suspended no one knows why and the mobile application is full of spam, considering that the company takes a 10% fee this is totally unacceptable.
I don't suggest to try this service, is just a waste of time and I don't even know how can some people rate it more than 2 stars.
I have used ODESK reasonably extensively and the system is really easy to use but their customer support are a nightmare. They just skid along the top, are robotic and must be really low paid as the dumbness or/and disinterest level is so high. They are high handed, ignorant, arrogant and endlessly threatening. Getting a basic understanding of a issue through to them is often just impossible.The management must be a bunch of mafia insecure thugs as that is reflecting in there so called 'customer support'.
They are fools to treat the public this way as there product/software how ever good is a dime a dozen.
They also care little for there freelancers. Dont give them credit card details as they cannot be trusted. Inmevitably you will have problems with them, I withdrew my credt card use authorisation and they kept using it. Now I I am referring the matter to the Police for Fraud.
II am a business man and dont need this crap that they dish out.
The problem is that the arrogant bums who run the business are doing it from their desks in between lunches.
They will inevitably get their just desserts.
I may have an opportunity to buy whats left of their business from the liquidators.
I had three year old odesk account with four active project. Odesk disabled it without any proper reason. My husband opened another account and continued the work. Odesk team disabled that account without any proper reason. It had impacted project progress without any issue. I had provided my accurate address and identity. Support and risk management team are unreasonable and rude people.
I highly recommend to avoid Odesk and use other options available in Market. There are plenty.
I started to create an account because a friend of mine's company gets some of their work done through oDesk. I was suspended after not completing my account and I could not get it reactivated after 5 different contacts with them and had my problem linked to other peoples problems via ticket numbers. What a bunch of goons.
Odesk - the freelancer marketplace - can be hit and miss. The better freelancers might prove to be quite expensive, while the cheaper sometimes would do their job and sometimes wouldn't.
One freelancer completely ignored my job requirements, fortunately Odesk customer service refunded the funds.
Overall, it's a great marketplace but be wary of the cheaper freelancers.
I've been working there since 2012. I have over 30 projects and total rate 4.84 out of 5.
So imagine my surprise when they told me they will suspend my account due to poor performance and because I have open project on which I don't work. I think their approach is very wrong- why should they blame the freelancer for projects which client never bother to close? I wrote all of my contractors and asked them to close... no one respond and it's reasonable because the projects was back in 2012 and 2013... How should I force people to come back to that site and do this and that?
Also, this internal rating as they told me... Most of my projects are done when there was no such thing. Now I have very low rate of people recommended me. Just because this option didn't exist in the past.
Anyway, I am extremely disappointed of this platform and the support attitude. I seriously think to quit my working there. Just pity for the years spent hoping to establish a career there...

Also I very much appreciate the support (Help Desk) they are providing. They are responding our questions and problems with our account as soon as they can, and I had couple of problem occasionally, they were given accurate and 100% successful answers in a loyal manner. I appreciate that very much.
Also, the development of oDesk timeline and other tabs, they are very useful to analyze my account, so that I can improve my work quality and have a confidence on my work quality as well as my abilities at oDesk freelancing.

So here is my story. I have been working in odesk for a few months. A lot of my work has 5 stars in them, but some of the clients don't leave feedbacks because they only come there for one work and never come back. Odesk thinks that it is my fault that my client don't leave my feedback even though I have completed the job and the client really love it. So they give me performance warning and they later on they ask for me to close all my projects so that clients can give feedback. So the clients give me 5 star rating and a great feedback. So odesk review my profile then they suspended it. Odesk support is the worst, they are cruel and unfair. Beware of this evil corporation.
No reports worth using. Their system wont let me give a good person a raise. It doesn't recognize me and when i tell it the CORRECT answer to my security question it does not take it. I send in a forgot security questiuon request. I get the link. I click the emailed link. I enter a new security question - it doesnt take it.
I am sick of this.
There might not be their fault but when you finally got in you think: Ok after all this trouble its gonna worth and I'm gonna be in touch with great clients. No way, the design jobs suck and are so underpaid. I live in Colombia and our coin is so weak compared to US dollar but I still get better paid for my work than the shamefully low amount that those cheap dudes are willing to pay. And most of the jobs are not attractive at all, they look like pulled out of Clients from Hell.

If you use a laptop (like 99% of the freelancers do) and you don't want headaches I would recommend you stay away from the Odesk time tracking app.
It crashes A LOT and it will make you pull your hair out and work for free for your customers. It crashes and does not notify you, so you keep working and 3 hours later when you check - 0 time logged!
3 weeks later - still working with their support to find a solution - on my time! And money!

Answer: I am not familiar with vendor but I strongly advise you not to work within the platform of odesk. Their work lacks transparency and credibility. It is much easier to build your own business outside of the odesk platform. This way you also will gain bigger clients and make much more money and most importantly you dont waste your time talking to kids on odesk who have no idea what they are doing at that place which in my opinion is really sad.
