We monitor reviews for authenticity
This is the 21st century way to be neighborly as well as get information out quickly.
We help each other with everything from lost pets to recommendations for home repairs.
This site has been helpful when I am looking for a service provider. I have also learned of local events and happenings in our neighborhood which has been quite helpful.
Nextdoor has provided a wealth of information from first hand customers who recommend different businesses and offer their honest experiences.
I love to learn about what is going on in the neighborhood but there seems to be a small group of negative people that seem intent on focussing on what is bad about the area. Referring to Point Loma as a ghetto, etc.
I'm in the UK and have built up over 250 (and growing) residents over the past year. We live in the country where the population is sparse among the fields. I have never had any issues except one which Nextdoor management dealt with firmly and fairly. My other leads nearby have also taken on similar figures and we are all growing strongly with everything from missing cats and dogs to possible Police issues.
When I selected to send "postcards" to nearby residents, I did not realize it was an actual letter. It was a letter addressed to people and "signed" by me with my return address. First, I gave the impression I obtained the names and addresses of these people and that I personally sent them. I received messages via Facebook asking me if I was really behind the letter. It was then I had discovered the nature of the "postcard". I have also been approached by community members with genuine concern about the letter, if I had been hacked, if I knew my name was being used this way, and concerned for my safety.
I am very disappointed with the result of these "postcards". They are not postcards, they are actual letters and the recipients were concerned and unsure after receiving them, as opposed to the goal your company is trying to accomplish.
So, in return to all of the responses I received, I had to spend a lot of time explaining something that wasn't even my responsibility. Had I known the nature of the "postcards", I NEVER would have sent a single one.
Because of the discomfort the recipients felt from these letters, I will be taking action by contacting our local media outlets.
Nextdoor is a good concept but where it runs into problems is if you don't think like the moderators. You can have comments removed for the most minor of things and they huddle under the rules of the site. There was a person shaming a poster for posting something he thought should be used as a google search. He said nextdoor should only be used for reporting loose dogs and such. I stepped up and told him the site was for any subject not just for dog running amok. Low and behold my post was reported and removed. This is not a community building site, when you cannot even stand up for a fellow neighbors right to post a question.
Vera gives amazing pedicures! She is extremely meticulous, gentle, knowledgeable and generous with her time. She educates on proper foot care. She takes time to address nail and skin issues rather than just glossying over items. Her instruments the most effective that I have ever experienced. Her instruments are sterilized and throw away items are not reused! She uses non toxic products. I have had several pedicures from Vera and she takes pride in her work and has very high standards. I have never had a pedicure as superior as hers!
You thought you knew your neighbors? Just wait until you use this app and youll really see what they are like. There are: Trolls, fake accounts (addresses), people using other members accounts, and just a good time for all. That is if your in the click with the (SS) block leader (Administrator). Would not recommend anyone for any purpose using this app.
People who break rules consistently, and nothing happens to their whiny, belligerent, childish posts. Others who make innocuous, or even helpful, posts/comments have their comment removed because some unknown, unfair reason.
They are a scam. They paint themselves as a local resource of information for consumers, but in reality they sweep all and any information from a members computer(s) and then sell it to companies so they can market their stuff to your "members". Their 'members' are inundated with scams and marketing trash. They steal all of the data possible from their customers computers and do not fully explain this to them.
It's a total fraud
Nextdoor has proven to be an incredible source of local information, resources, suggestions and all-around gems of information. When we were new to the area, it was our go-to forum to ask questions and find our way around our new community. And now, we get to return the favor to other newcomers. It's a winner!
I don't read all the notifications I get from Nextdoor, and I seldom have posted anything myself, but I do like to read and interact with interesting posts. I like best the ones from my own neighborhood but also like that it includes other neighborhoods -- and the people I've actually dealt with [handyman, seller, etc.] have all been from other but nearby neighborhoods.
I would like to see local business review and recommendations to avoid getting ripped off. I can't keep track of the recommendations.
I would like to see people in communities be more willing to help people at no charge for small jobs. (example; change an air filter or replace a sprinkler head) everyone wants to charge ridiculous prices.
I would like to see people be willing to help other people as much as their willing to help animals.
I've seen how this private network unites neighborhoods, spreads news of events in communities and allows local sales by residents who might be hesitant to use broader-based programs.
In Penn Hills, PA, I was a lead who created our community group and now in Delaware I'm a member. The program proved very helpful when we moved here by recommending service providers and allowed us to join in local activites.
I enjoy using this site. It allows you to share information with the masses. Also, a great way for last minute communications.
I find the neighborhood information very helpful especially when people share about something that wouldn't be shared by the city or other media. Examples are recommendations for landscaper, sharing about sales people going door to door and coyotes seen in the neighborhood. Of course people are people and get a little obnoxious with opinions sometimes. That's how they will be on the internet.
I find it ironic that Nextdoor demands to invade users privacy but hides behind fake customer service people. As long as a person is not violating the codes of conduct it shouldn't matter what the $#*! they call themselves. Single woman and people who have been harassed by stalkers or an ex have the right o protect their privacy. Much like FB and other SM sites that use bots to go after people for minor to no infractions but yet continue to allow people who grossly violate codes of decency to run rampant. Their fake bull$#*! customer service - which I'm not sure has any human attached to it and if so it's just to send form email responses - has the nerve to demand full disclosure of all your information. It's pretty disgusting. Many women use ND for safety and crime notices. They don't give a flying $#*! about your stupid lost pets- that seem to set off alerts every 1hour at all hours of the night and day. I'm guessing it won't be until numerous people are harassed and/or injured/kidnapped that ND will pull its head out of its $#*!.
They have zero concern for the safety of users. Claiming neighbors need ur name is bs. ND has ur contact info on the back end (and trust me they abuse the crap outta it. Read the fine print that they hide about what info ur giving them access to and what they can do with it). And when there really does need to be an intervention neighbors having ur name does nothing and ND provides zero support. It's wildly irresponsible.
ND needs to take some responsibly and provide human being customer service and actually BE INVOLVED with THEIR community! They're valued at over a billion but they make zero revenue. Hmmmm. I wonder how... selling ur info?
(And for developers out there - someone just make an emergency, amber alert style app already for lost pets and let pet owners be alerted at 11am and 2am and 5am cause fluffy got out for the 10th time.)
Next Door has been responsive and effective. Easy to use and the community has been polite, overall. This sentence is simply to fulfill the requirement
The app is very good. The neighbors post a lot of useful information to keep you well informed. I enjoy the articles regarding free and for sale and the DIY.
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
