I am so very pleased with NextDoor, it is so informative and gives us up to date info on our neighborhood.
Wanted to get information on what is going on in our neighborhood. We are happy with this group so far. Good to hear from neighbors and hear what they are seeing.
The Nextdoor site has informed me of important things happening in the closer neighborhood than is possible from other media sources. Although there is a certain amount of "fluff" postings, the majority of the postings are of real use for community safety, lost animals, dangerous situations and current happenings that affect us.
I love Nextdoor for its ability to provide a simple, easy-to-use social platform that connects you with your neighbors and other communities around you. I live in a big city now and I find that it is harder to get that community feel in which neighbors communicate and help each other out. The Nextdoor platform makes it easy to build a community around you, and I have seen so many great things come out of it e.g. finding lost pets, returning lost keys and belongings, and warning others of crime activity. Thank you Nextdoor!
I have not had an opportunity to post anything, but I am glad I have it. I have learned a few things since signing up. The one downside, I have noticed a few times that on some posts, there have been some negative comments
Pros are: It's local & deals with your community
Cons - Have been on For about 6 months - already running into weirdness (imitators, angry folks & fake peeps etc.
Still, it is a great idea.
Most of my experiences on Nextdoor have been good but the best example is it led me to the adoption of my dog. Its former owner was going into hospice care and the dog needed to be "re-homed". I am the lucky new owner of this well-mannered, house broken, healthy 7 year old Cocker Spaniel.
In keeping with the truth when reporting, I want to expound on what precipitated the Nextdoor issue. Also note, I have all documentation, emails, posts to confirm what actually happened. I will be happy to provide those upon request.
As the Lead for Nextdoor, we had many inquiries from resident and Nextdoor posts from people wanting to know if the Annual visit from Santa was going to happen this year (it was suspended last year for various reasons). In attaching the link that showed the dates/times/maps of where Santa will be, someone from Nextdoor reported that I was advertising a business I owned.
That individual lied and stated that I was advertising my business which is far from the truth (!) as many know that I had to leave my career to full time care for my terminally ill husband. I do not have a business, I have no income stream, we survive on only my husband's social security.
To my community:
Pease be Advised... Nextdoor has chosen to disable my account for posting about the Santa visit... it is doubtful that I will continue as your lead since Nextdoor Corporate is hiding behind their anonymity instead of us discussing this with me 'live' from their corporate office. If you all would be so kind to spread the word, I would appreciate it. I will now focus on caring for my terminally ill husband instead of advocating for Nextdoor. Blessings, Jennifer
They demand you use your real full name without an option for a username. VERY UNSAFE, rapists are someone's neighbor! They should be reported to the BBB for unsafe website! Expecially for single women or women with kids who live alone. Shame on you nextdoor for not practicing safety first!
Our initial test case for curbing neighborhood late night vehicle prowling, break and entry and vehicle theft proved to be highly successful but still required a lot of manual effort to acquire and update resident email addresses needed for incident blanket broadcasting.
A subsequent trial was set up using NextDoor as a platform for broadcasting security video incidents and it was extremely successful.
Now over 500 neighbours in our community are updated immediately after each incident, police are using our videos to aid in more timely arrests which also is improving the conviction rate.
I see some negative comments posted by others that is misinforming... I suspect they are competing with other services and apps and Nextdoor is a threat... Try Nextdoor for yourself... If you don't like it... then cancel your membership.
Avoid Nextdoor if you value your privacy.
BTW, they also censure conservative free speech, which used to be a concern for the traditional Left. Evidently, the Bill of Rights no longer applies to the new, radical Alt-Left. Anyway, even if you did go to college in the last 8-10 years and have brainwashed into digging Bernie, AOC, Marx, Lenin, and Stalin, you still might care about Internet security and your own identity. If so, avoid Nextdoor.
So, locally in Park City, UT we have an issue with a local lead using Nextdoor for his own motives or those of his personal connections or in dispute with others. Threats are made by Private Message, Comments reported unnecessarily by folks he provides safe harbor to while he enforces the bad actions - by deleting valid posts/community threads, suspending accounts, reporting other leads who don't agree with him, he is in effect using Nextdoor (the platform and the corporate actors who enforce his actions) for his own malicious intent. Correspondence with Nextdoor corporate fails to actually read content to see his actions are unsubstantiated, their responses state policy that is nowhere to be found on their site, nor do they provide any answers beyond boiler plate copy and paste responses. In essence, Nextdoor social media platform collects ad revenue while accepting zero accountability for the actions of their Leads. They don't listen to complaints from users who rank lower than Leads. Should something happen from Lead actions or lack thereof they will claim it's the Leads who make decisions on content and share no responsibility for outcomes. Yet, they sit back and collect the ad revenue while the success of the platform is largely based upon the Leads who volunteer their time to monitor and moderate its content.
Reading the comments here at Sitejabber.com it appears this is a common complaint in many areas of the country. It's a shame, Nextdoor started out years ago as such a valuable tool for neighborhoods.
This is a dangerous site. Anyone in nearby neighborhoods can get your name and address. There are some real psychos out there. Protect your family.
Nextdoor has taken it upon itself to decide what they believe is moral and proper versus what is "not nice" and uncivil. If posts aren't peppered with sickeningly sweet comments about how wonderful someone is for helping a poor, stray kitten, or how great their plumber is, they're pulled. The leads are impossible to reach and take perverse pleasure in blocking comments. It underscores that those who volunteer as leads have no other manner in which to prove their self worth. Silly, fluffy site.
Just another site where they set the rules and if you don't follow them to the "T" your post, opinions, and anything else gets removed. Save yourself and skip this one.
Nextdoor has turned into a dangerous campaign tool for the recall of two duly elected City Councilmembers of Santa Cruz. The recall campaign is dominated by Leads that vote 10 to 1 to keep pro-recall posts up and they are now allowing a litany of misinformation to foment hate against these two hard-working Councilmembers.
Nextdoor has guidelines against running a campaign on the newsfeeds but Nextdoor did not stop it. They ignored their own guidelines. When there is a serious problem they should activate a procedure to deal with it and they did little other than to remove those who were speaking out and against this injustice.
Nextdoor has allowed recall members to selectively call out those against the recall and systematically had them removed. They have taken out the only defense against this terrible circumstance.
This is wrong.
The recall if it is allowed requires an elected official get at least 50 % of the votes to remain in office while allowing others as replacement at a puarality. Based on past elections candidates from a list garner 20-35% of votes and can win as the top candidate from a list. The person who is recalled cannot run.
The process is legal but not fair and has taken a big chunk out of the democratic process.
We are now having to fight for a democracy in our community thanks to Nextdoor. This has created tremendous divisiveness in our neighborhoods.
What is Nextdoor going to do to help our Community? How do you undo an injustice?
I called with a plumbing issue; Dan told me to check something first to see whether a service call was really needed, or would be really unnecessary. He was right, and it saved me having to spend for a service call for a small simple matter. Not many plumbers would do that to help a potential customer with a simple fix not requiring a service call. I appreciate it very much, and thus will keep him in mind for future issues.
I like using Nextdoor. It keeps me up-to-date on things happening around the neighborhood. However, I recently moved and haven't been able to figure out how to change my neighborhood, so I have kind of stopped using the app.
The moderator off the site at Plantation Bay in Ormond Beach, Florida, capriciously uses the "soapbox" restriction to delete resident's postings, particularly if you have concerns about the country club at Plantation Bay which in my view makes it look like she is more of an advocate than an honest broker who is looking out for the community. She has stated many times that it is a private site and they can accept or delete whatever they want to on it. It sounds like she believes that the site is unaccountable to any higher guidelines or authority that governs these kind of venues, and I find that very hard to believe as everyone and everything in our community is accountable, no matter who or what they are. She is very bureaucratic and officious, capricious, imperious even, and that is not a good fit in my mind for someone for this position. I suggest you find someone more suitable for the position and I think you will find that many people in our community share this view.
I love Nextdoor. It helps u keep informed about what's going on in the neighborhood, recommendations for services of all kinds, questions you have about the area. Good for selling things and asking questions
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
