I wish I could give this app zero stars. My family have been victimized and terrorized by trolls who claim to be neighbors. They hide behind lead badges taking pictures of your home, children, etc. You feel afraid to have police present at your home for any reason bc the neighbors find a way to use it against you. Starting far fetched rumors and racial profiling. It's disgusting
It's just a site for your neighbors to gather and bully those with whom they don't agree. At its best, it's a bad classifieds section. Usually it's bullying and a conspiracy theory discussion hub with leads able to do whatever they'd like and everyone else held to their capricious "standards"
Nextdoor.com is not helpful and unjust. Do not use this site. They are not trusting and will delete your posts no matter what the content or basis is.
REVIEW GUIDELINES... THEY EVEN HAVE GUIDELINES FOR COMPLAINTS:)
After about a year of PC intervention in my postings and replies, I gladly departed NEXT DOOR about two months ago.
If you are a conservative, white, male with a brain then and a fervor for defending your position online, then NEXT DOOR is not for you... not even in Houston Texas.
Apparently, in a parallel universe to which Nextdoor.com is a portal, my neighborhood is being overrun with murderous homeless people, Hispanics and blacks up to no good, and coyotes snatching and eating young children (none of which are actually true). In the several months I was lurking and participating, it got to the point where I actually cringed whenever a notification badge came up on my phone. So I deleted both the app and my account.
Basically, Nextdoor.com is a cesspool of nosy parkers, paranoid agoraphobes, and right-wing conspiracy theorists. Stay away if you want to keep your sanity. Instead, stay grounded in your actual universe by getting to know your neighbors on a face-to-face basis, inviting them to your yard BBQs, offering to collect their mail and watch their houses when they're away, and letting your kids play with theirs. You know, how actual neighborhood relationships are built and nurtured.
I have been a politically neutral member for 6 years and continually did my best to be constructive and contribute real and lasting value. The few with their hearts right appreciated me but the majority are literally leftist zombies with no ability to reason. The far Left administration protects their own regardless of the guidelines violations or blatant illegal activities. I reported a lead for using the Home page to promote her choice candidate which is a violation of guidelines. Admin locked me out of my account without a word to me. Another issue is that a man was illegally doing electrical work for profit and Nextdoor admin protected him.
My garage door spring broke today. Lockout Garage Doors promptly came and repaired and replaced it. Outstanding job and excellent service.
They locked me out of my account. I am paying for a realtor page and they claim I posted something not according to their guildelines. Money hungry jacka. Es
Nextdoor is the furthest thing from being neighborly. It has been weaponized by its automated system, which is easy to use to shut down neighbors with whom you disagree.
After being banned for supposedly public shaming people, which I've never done, I found out how easy it is to report somebody for public shaming on the website, which then results in an automatic suspension in a matter of minutes. I've tried this technique and it works, usually within 30 minutes:
Click on the down arrow next to the post you want to report. Select Report Post. Then select "uncivil, unneighborly, offensive." You will then get a list that includes "public shaming." The person will be automatically suspended in about 30 minutes and it will take a long time for them to even find out why.
This site is not only a data mining venture masked as a "meet your
Neighbor" front, but it is also an adventure in how not to run a
Website. The company itself could care less about the users. They are in
It for data mining of information, and boy do they get a lot of it, and
Corporate advertising. It acts like many social platforms or forums
Since it has local moderators. It also include the usual gangs of
Ravenous social justice warriors with an agenda. They send out the word
To their comrades and work to ban individuals from the site with the help of the local "leads." I was sent
IM's by people telling not to post on certain user's threads because if
You don't agree with them, they will work to ban you... and they did.
That was it for me, I was done. There is also the daily "Who is in my
Neighborhood" (usually accompanied by a picture of a black or Hispanic
Person.) I live in richy rich's town, so there is an intense fear of
Innocent people on the streets doing normal human things that might turn
Into marauders. Avoid this "social media" platform at all cost. It is
Not healthy.
I am editing my review to add; I encourage people to contact your state's Attorney Generals office and the FCC. You can fill out a complaint online in minutes. If enough people complain to the Attorney Generals office, they will open an investigation. They, unlike the BBB or any of the other organizations, have the power to close a business and/or file suit.
The most Bias site ever! I am a Independent Contractor and posted my information on this site and was sent a message saying I could not do that unless I had a referral! Ok so I get that but I have seen men get away with posting what ever they want to post to promote their business and weeks later their self promoting ad's still active. I have contacted the "Help" because my local Lead is not doing anything about it. I should not have to report this to the "Help" That being "customer service" this should be taken care of by the local Leads but after reporting as many as I have and not seeing anything done about it I felt I had no other choice. I sent many emails to Next Doors "customer service" explaining the attempted contacts with my local lead and each attempted contact to my local lead was ignored! I get that these leads are not getting paid for what they do but I would like to see where it says that it's ok to be Bias because your doing Volunteer work for NEXTDOOR!
The support staff doesn't ever bother to read and understand a question you send. If they see a word they recognize they will copy and paste a section that is similar to your question and therefore never asking or comprehending the question. Also they must be in Asia because when i get a response it's always 12 hours ahead of my time in the future.
I responded in a thread to a poster who was personally attacking another member and then pretended the other member threatened her and asked others to find him and "take care of the problem". My response said "If you have a problem with someone hash it out with them. Don't cry victim and "we need to ban this guy cause he thinks differently than me, and that's triggering". It makes you look weak and immature."
Somehow I was issued a 30 day suspension for this response, yet the far left poster personally attacking and inciting violence gets a warning. There was no process for appeal, and support acted high and mighty and responded to me like a child who ate a cookie without asking.
You will be harassed, taunted and banned for being civil but defending your self. They do not read the posts to see why passive aggressives complain to get one banned because they can't handle truth. This is a lame site with massivly whining neighbors who are full of themselves. They can say nasty things but you cannot. I fart in this sites general direction. Bunch of babies run it.
My review is why is Nextdoor using my house to compare to a house that is listed for sale? Who gave them the right to use my house for this? My house is not for sale and unless it is taken down I will be contacting the BBB or have my attorney contact them!
Using my house which they are showing is a little less then the house that is listed demeans the sale of my house in the future. I will deleted my account so no further information is posted; however they cannot feel they can do whatever they want. This has made me very angry and has infringed upon my rights of privacy.!
I had my total access revoked without notice. I believe it was because I criticized their so called guidelines. My initial comment was writing about someone who was advocating for higher school property taxes. I stated that they were not property taxpayers since they lived in a low income subsidized rental complex. That post was removed by the lead, who just happened to be the renter! I then questioned the guidelines, and that is when I was totally cut off. That lead bragged that she had me kicked off Nextdoor.
I posted, "...^^^an opinion." and
"...^^^another opinion." which resulted in my suspension, and ultimate expulsion from this group. I was informed that my suspension would end September 14,2018. What's the date now? What's interesting is that now... the "Contact Us" link is inoperative... go figure.
I think it's been a real help finding local independent contractors for house repairs and auto mechanic suggestions. But it can be very charged for politics or having opinions that aren't mainstream. Great place for recommendations. Not so easy to use for finding like minded community connections or unbiased help, should you require it.
It is a sick website and poor excuse for a neighborhood "tool." Google "Nextdoor" - the search results push everything down except for the corporation's website. Trying to contact "Staff" is an exercise in circular blocking. They don't want you to contact them. The Leads are morons in my neighborhood.
The community of next door is comprised of nothing but people
A. Complaining bout packages stolen
B. Complaining bout no parking
C. Complaining or wrongly identifying people who could be threats in the neighborhood.
Very few people positively contribute to it. Stay away
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
