These folks are just bad at their jobs
June 20, 2023

These folks are just bad at their jobs. Real bad. Hard to believe Amazon trusts them with their credit card / store card business. And that's if you're fortunate enough and patient enough to reach a live representative. Then when you finally get one, they are either inept or snarky and assuming. Terrible service and an error-prone, infuriating automated system.

Multiple credit line decreases
May 1, 2023

I had a really good relationship with synchrony bank. I have three different credit cards with high credit limits had them for years never been late we went and bought two new trucks for our business and of course, with interest rates as high as they are these days I shopped with multiple banks to get the best rate on both trucks after doing that on every single credit card synchrony Didn't even send me an email I went to use my cards and they all got declined called synchrony and they lowered my credit limit one card 7800 to 280 second card $9000 to 230 and third card $10,000 to 3250 which Only reason they lowered it to that was because I had a that as a balance for a 0% for 12 months offer. When I called to ask what happened they told me due to my credit report, not having a real estate account which my house is paid for and multiple inquiries. They classify me as a high risk even though I've been with them for years none of my payments are late and my credit score is in the upper 700s One of the worst banks I've ever had will never do business with them again.

Don't trust the phone customer service!
April 23, 2023

After having been a customer for over a year and having made several very large purchases and payments on my ongoing card, I have found that you cannot trust the customer service reps to know what they are saying or care that it is accurate.

I recently called in to ask about a purchase of a new machine that I was getting ready to buy while it was $1000 off the regular price. I also had an existing past promotional purchase with a remaining balance due later in the year that I decided to pay off now and then re-use the credit line to purchase the new machine.

When I called in to explain all of this and to ask about applying my full payment of over $1000 only to the past promotional purchase instead of the general balance, I was told to make the payment and then to call back within two days to tell them to apply the funds however I wished. I did this and they did apply the funds to the past promotional balance. They also reflected the new total balance as that much lower.

However, they did NOT make the funds available for use. I called again a few days later and asked about the funds since I already had a machine on hold at a store that was ready to ship. I was told the funds would be available two days later. So, I called again two days later and was told the funds would be available as of that night and to call again the next day.

I called again the next day but was then told that the funds would not be available for TEN more days. Of course, this was not acceptable as I had made that payment in good faith that they would follow through, and at no point down the line had anyone told me that the funds would be held (obviously so they can skim some interest) for ten full days.

I then asked for a supervisor and told them that either I need that credit opened right away or that they can refund my payment and I'll just put the purchase on another card. She put me on hold and then came back to say that there was nothing they could do. So, in spite of the fact that THEY gave me false information and mislead me into believing that they would apply my funds immediately for me to be able to utilize them, they instead kept my funds and refused to release them until they have earned enough interest off my money.

I am scheduled to leave in five days for at least ten weeks of travel and need to take this machine with me. It has to be shipped from Los Angeles to Chicago for me to take it. So, obviously, none of this is now going to happen. The only options I have are to purchase it on another card that WILL charge me interest, or to wait until they finally get around to crediting my funds so that I may make the purchase interest-free for the promotional period and then try to have it shipped to wherever I will be and hope it arrives in a timely manner there.

What I have learned from this experience is never to trust anything they say. Their customer service staff either is terribly under-trained and unfamiliar with their own policies and procedures, or they simply don't care. Either way, that is the last time I will ever depend on them. From now on, I will always assume that they will hold my larger payments for at least two weeks and will plan accordingly. I won't use them to make purchases that I will need right away.

They have failed in customer service.

Synchrony has apparently built an all automated system with very little human involvement and hardly any customer service left. It is SUPER hard to get to talk to a human to resolve your issue. And, when you finally make it to talk to someone, they are no help, they keep parroting: the system tells me this, and the system says that, without being able to understand or help with a basic issue. I've had many cards over multiple decades, but I've never had one with such little customer service and disregard to the customer like this one. I guess, that's why companies keep choosing them to service their store cards, little customer service = less work force = savings for the companies and headaches for the customers.

Worst bank ever - not safe - stay away
February 22, 2023

I guess it became a trend nowadays to get outsource reps with 0 (zero knowledge) and let them run your financial company… what a joke.

Synchrony support not only useless but also provide false information and confusing customers even more.
When it comes to disputes unlike normal banks like AMEX or Chase, this guys will not fight for you, they simply don't care:

1. They're still using mail and fax to obtain doc from you (we're in 2023 now, I don't even own a printer)

2. They will not request a proof of transaction from merchant (not sure why)

3. They provide false and incorrect information, basically a polite way to say (F*** off, go talk to someone else)

4. They will give attitude during the call (like you talking to crazy ex).

5. They refuse to set up a supervisor call back (which is a must have function to ALL financial companies)

In another words, if you have an unauthorized transaction - you would have to deal with it on your own.

I have never experienced anything like that from any credit card company for the past 20 years. So far - this is the worst bank to deal with after Citi.

Synchrony Bank
February 21, 2023

So, I found out on Friday that my account with Care Credit had been closed with no notification from Synchrony Bank via email, text, call or mail. I didn't understand why and called them on today. Synchrony Bank closed my account in June 2022 that I had with them for over three years, with no late payments ever, no payments due ever, and nothing owed to them at this time based on a credit report that was received by them from Transunion. I asked the representative why did Synchrony Bank pull a credit report on me after having been with them for over three years, the representative stated to me that Synchrony Bank automatically receives these reports every month from the credit bureaus and based on what Transunion stated they denied me credit and closed an account that had been open and in good standing with them for over three years,. Did you Synchrony Bank forget that everyone is suffering from the fallout of Covid 19 and still recovering and I am still trying to find out how they received a credit report when my account has a fraud alert on it from the breech of a certain credit reporting agency and had a freeze on it? Neither Synchrony Bank nor Transunion had permission to access my account without calling me (Transunion and asking my permission if my credit report could be accessed by any company, so one of these companies also broke the law, that is criminal. I also stated to the representative why I didn't receive notice of this decision via mail, phone, email or text from Synchrony Bank, the young lady stated one was sent out, I stated to her no, I never received any type of notification from Synchrony Bank stating my account had been closed, the representative stated to me that she would email me one today, I stated to her, no, I didn't want it, it was to late for that now, I already new. I want to say to you Synchrony Bank, what you did was criminal, dirty, underhanded and sneaky, if this is the way you treat loyal customers after over three years I want to warn and let anyone and everyone know that based on your character and treatment towards me you are not worthy to be in business, your account is closed.

I called synchrony bank on January 5,2023 to withdraw my cd account and closed it, because the maturity date of my cd account was december 23,2022. The first representative that was telling me that I have to pay the penalty for the amount of $40 for closing the account. I didn't know that they automatic renew my account even though without my authorization. She even told me that they send me a letter which I never got it. I was so upset, so I had to disconnect and think what to do my account. 10 minutes after I made a phone to them and I spoke another representative. This man from the synchrony financial I informed him that I want to closed my cd account and I want to know how much I have to pay the penalty. He said I have to pay for $85. I was shock because the amount for penalty was changed. I told him that why the charged changed the amount so I demand him that I want to speak your supervisor. I spoke to the supervisor and I told her that I never give any of you authorization to renew my CD account. She said since I didn't make a call or email to them my account will be automatic renew. She said that we have to charged you for $85 to closed your cd account early. I said i never sign up an automatic renewal and I never get a letter that you guys send by mail and why charged change from $40 to $85. The supervisor asked me "who said we send you a letter by mail"? And who said that charged for penalty is $40"? I said to the supervisor that I spoke the first representative before I talk to you. So the first representative person that I spoke was lying to me. All information that she provides was incorrect. Then Supervisor was starting an apologize the for incorrect information. Synchrony is freaking Scam! Cannot trusted anymore scumbag!

Late fees and activity
December 14, 2022

I am one to check my bank activity and keep up with payments. I never realized they charged a $30 late fee if you are even one day late. I've never been more than a day or two late, but then they don't tell you they put a late fee on your account when it shows your next minimum payment, so then I would pay my minimum like usual thinking everything was normal, but then I checked and they were charging me interest on the late fees. None of my other credit cards charge a late fee for a couple days. This company just seems to want your money anyway they can get it. I know I should of caught it sooner but I couldn't even see my history of payments or charge history for the months before July. I can do auto pay but sometimes we have to wait for the pay check that's coming in a day or so after the payment. I have definitely had better experiences with other credit card companies. At least give some grace period, you don't know what's going on in your customers lives.

Many, many times I cannot log in to the Synchrony site to pay a credit card bill. No matter if it's the same one I've been using for years, I keep getting "Access Denied" message. They seem to have taken over so many of them and that makes the situation even worse.

Useless
December 7, 2022

I got a Sam's credit card recently. Traveled to relatives on Thanksgiving. Tried to make a purchase on Amazon. Because I was out of town, Amazon deemed the purchase suspicious, so Synchrony automatically cancelled the card without contacting me. That was Nov 21st. Synchrony did not even mail the replacement card until Dec 5th, 14 days after they unnecessarily cancelled the original. I will still use the replacement card, depending on which year it finally arrives. But I do not trust their system. I will only use the card at my local Sam's Club, nowhere else. Synchrony credit cards cannot be trusted. Their system is fully computer controlled and they will cancel your card with no warning because you made the mistake of using their card on a trip to another city.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS
November 9, 2022

Terrible company, terrible customer service, and terrible communication. Closed my account when I never missed a payment. They said I was sent a letter--never came. I called in and spoke with a representative that hung up on me after taking awhile to provide a simple explanation, which also didnt allow me to leave my Customer Survey (how convenient). The representative was also saying that the letter was sent but had trouble finding my account details and the reason for the closure? The only silver lining is the purchase on my card was 0% APR for a certain period and luckily they've not made a single DIME off me and never will. I will tell all my friends, family, acquaintances, and anyone I ever see in a GuitarCenter Store or using MySynchrony services to close it or to avoid them at all costs. Closing the card dinged my credit for a closed account, and in turn, increased my credit utilization. Can't imagine they'll be around too long if this is how they conduct business and treat their customers.

I seriously wish I can give a lower rating than 1 star. This company is a joke. They give you an app to make your payments on but it is never working. It has been down for over a month and there is no way to contact Customer Support. I am NOT allowed to make any payments and will sue the hell out of this piss poor company if they even so much as think about affecting my credit because of it.

I had a credit limit of $1500 with amazon prime store card. For no reason it was lowered to $470 putting me over limit, reducing my credit score and leaving a scar on my perfect credit rating and worthiness. I have never missed or made a late payment. Synchrony bank screwed me.
