If you only take one thing from this review - use Gumtree instead.
Musicians-in-your-city has a huge amount of baffling rules. Maybe part of their autocratic approach is due being lost in translation from their native german, but it's a rough user experience.
Say you're looking for a drummer - you have to fill in the comments field with 'something meaningful and interesting - min 50 characters' but you're not allowed to say 'what you are looking for' nor 'anything about your band'.
All quite odd, and there's no help at all in completing.
If they deem your entry against their rules - your account is frozen for 12 hours, whilst 'contacting support is forbidden during this time'.
You then make the amend, and have to wait another 12 hours for them to approve, again 'contacting support is forbidden.'
Totally bizarre they feel the need to run the site in this way. Much nicer would be to tell people they've got it wrong, give them guidance on what is needed to change and a chance to change it before freezing them out.
It probably explains why so few people are on this site, and why engaging with them is so stilted and difficult.
Nice idea, appalling execution and waste of money.
Truly awful web site that only succeeds in giving you a bad headache. Navigation is complex, functionality very limited, rules complicated and support non-existent. Do yourself a favour and sandpaper your eyeballs instead of going anywhere near this site.
I signed up and paid a subscription. I wanted to find a keyboard player. A keyboard player responded. Thats where the story ended. Despite spending hours trying to find out how to make contact through the site contact was denied. I even got other band members to register on instruction. Until I read the reviews I blamed myself being convinced that I was doing something wrong in navigating the site. I even got a threat that if I sent a written query that could have been dealt with by FAQS that I would be penalised
OMG this site is a total pain in the axxe.
DO NOT REGISTER. They have more security hoops to jump through than accessing the CIA's database.
You can't get past the the verify your landline number which they inform you you have entered but you haven't! Therefore you cant access the support form mail and therefore you get endless spammed email by them because you cant tell them to turn them off or delete the account.
Its like dealing with the Gestapo.
AVOID.
Far too complicated and frankly terrible website which is very likely to be a scam. They should just give up in this business. Clearly made by people who are not musicians and don't understand that meeting with people should be simple. Just tried to go through these tedious nerdy bs processes. They should actually give us money for the time wasted.
Is there an equivalent of the Razzies for unusable websites? This would win awards.
I can only assume that MIYC has been designed by music haters to try to stop bands from forming. It manages to combine unattractive design, poor instructions and difficulty of use with messages that border on outright hostile and features hidden behind a paywall. In case anyone reading this is a drummer in the Bristol area, drop me a line. It should be a quicker way of finding a musician than MIYC. Stay away.
Extremely difficult to use, I tried to get reimbursed and because of this my account has been deactivated, it appears therefore I have lost money. Would never recommend this site. DO NOT USE
Awful site that just gives you the run around. It censors what you say so makes it difficult to write about yourself. It not only wants your mobile but also your landline number... why? I go on Joinmyband and Partysounds now to look for Musicians. Avoid Musicians-in-the-city.
This website is unattractive, difficult to navigate, and a massive scam. It keeps taking you round in circles in a completely unintuitive manner. The layout is repulsive, and looks like it was designed on excel. STAY AWAY NOT WORTH ANYBODY'S TIME!
However giggem.com gave me instant success
Tedious - terrible just terrible! The site takes you round in circles telling you that you can't access such an such a person as it has not been unblocked. After I received notification that someone had messaged me I tried to access the account to see who it was only to receive this.

Tedious and appalingly bad website which looks like it was 'designed' by an accountant on a spreadsheet. (apologies to any accountants out there). I wanted to register on this website as a band looking for a vocalist only to be told I have to register as an individual musician first. The whole registration process is tedious beyond belief, being told off every time I clicked on 'submit': "you can't do this, you can't say that in this field..." I tell you what musicians-in-your-city.co.uk... you are a bunch of time-wasters. Back to Gumtree I guess.
I am glad I read all these reviews because I too found the site unfathomable with poor design and I was just getting my credit card out too.
The fact that half the Terms and Conditions are still in German must surely be illegal for a site operating in the UK. http://www.musicians-in-your-city.co.uk then is one to avoid.
All of the previous reviews confirm what I suspected. I was simply wanting to look for other musicians and it was an overly complicated process. The site wouldn't even recognize my post code to start with. It says easily contact other musicians, but you won't be able to contact anyone easily and certainly won't be able to contact anyone with difficulty unless you pay. I don't imagine there is anything or any useful information you can get with the initial free registration. The info on local players that pops up is frankly suspicious. And then the expectation is that you have a narrow and easily defined interest. You're either in a band and looking for one person or you're a person looking for a band. There is nothing in between. And what is with having 30 coins to spend? It's really confusing. I'm glad this review site exists because thanks to the above reviews, I have not yet paid anything, in fact I just deleted my free account on the site.
The WORST site you can imagine. It's a SCAM with no way to get my £43- back.
Impossible to navigate, clumsy and it keeps bouncing you to spend more money on band registration "name protection" and won't let you correct it if you attempt it. DON'T USE IT. They "blocked" my user account because I made an error (not surprisingly because it is so very complicated to use) and they offered a refund link which DID NOT WORK and which has now mysteriously disappeared. They re-instated my account onto their "hampster-wheel" system so that I cannot claim a refund. Tell everyone to avoid it please.
A dreadful website designed by people who are terrible website designers and probably terrible musicians too. No attempt has been made to make the site useable (tiny little text boxes and ridiculous submission rules) or useful (multiple registrations required for you as a musician or band if you want to contact others, individual entries required for each member you seek - remember all of this done through their awful interface and restrictive submission rules).
If you wish to have any form of anonymity forget it as they ask for name, address, date of birth and home phone number. Their database must be a stalkers delight!
When you're trying to find musicians, I suppose this could be a great site, since only the most determined will complete the entire soul-destroying process. Me, I cancelled my registration immediately, preferring to get on with my life and write some music.
Absolutely appalling and totally user unfriendly. What an insult for musicians. They should be closed down as there is no support offered. Disgusting!
Extremely poor doesn't even cover it! I concur with all the other reviews
Poor design, expensive, hard to use, anal teutonic site managers who can't contacted.
Save yourself and lot of wasted time and go elsewhere.
This website shouldn't even be named a website, its totally crap, once you pay the registration fee, thats game over, I met no musicians on this, it seems to me they caught a few people years back and kept their details up and those people have forgotten they even signed up, everyone I did get details for werent interested in meeting any other musicians, two people told me "you have the wron 'numba', " total waste of time and disappointing, I would advise anyone to keep away from it.
This is the worst musician site I have ever encountered. It is near impossible to understand. They ask for your mobile number so they can send a text with a code which I never rec'd even though I did it 4 times! There is no help or support. They keep sending me emails saying I haven't completed registration? Use Joinmyband site its much better or Bandmix
Unbelievably bad. I can only think this is a scam - there is a suspiciously large number of apparently suitable musicians close to me for a start! It is literally almost impossible to actually follow their rules: for a start you have to put a 'comment' about yourself - but there'e no guidance on what the comment should be, and a huge list of 'forbidden' words - like 'band' for instance! From there it's downhill. I want a lead guitarist for an esisting band. To put an advert up, every single member of the band needs to go through the agony that is registration - and every single one has to go thru the whole ridicolous process. After you think you're done (maybe 24 hours later), you get emails from them telling you you've used the wrong word somewhere in your details etc and you've go to go back and redo it. I've never been completely defeated by a mere website before! Don't touch with a barge pole - the idea of them getting my bank details is scary!
