Homophobia is real
April 25, 2025

Midas case ******* 401 E Anaheim St, Long Beach, CA ******* homophobic Luis store manager
I am never going here again. So, I work nights and I have a Corporate F150 work truck. About a month before I had a tire replaced with little fuss. I told them I wanted a name brand tire like Toyo, Michelin, Cooper. What do they do, they put on a cheap Chinese Sailun tire that I did not request. Then, yesterday I had a tire pop I put on the spare myself. It did not help that they put 51psi in each of my old tires when 36 is the spec. So I drive up after the authorization company called at 1 that I am arriving. I get there at 2 dead tired from the night shift before. They tell me they do not have tire in stock and that I will have to wait til tomorrow. Today I get out at 3 pm no call or text. I go to the shop and the tire is ready. No call or text. I had already arranged to go to Cooper that had the tire in stock assuming they were not ready. Then I get there and I tell them to take their tire off I am going somewhere else he refused. I told him that my time is valuable and I am doing this on my day off. He did not care.

Worst Experience We've Had With An Auto Repair Shop
March 29, 2025

The Midas location at 6021 San Mateo, Albuquerque, NM *******, charged my wife $700 for a battery, instead of replacing the failed alternator that AutoZone had already diagnosed as the problem. It was a Saturday, and the battery icon lit up on my wife's Durango. She was 500 miles into a 1300 mile trip, and was alone. On my advice, she went to AutoZone, where they diagnosed it (for free) as a failed alternator. Midas was the only place open on a Saturday, and they said they could replace her alternator, so she went to them. Once there, she asked for the alternator to be replaced, and explained why. Instead, they did their own $170 diagnosis, and said that no, the problem was the 4-year-old AC Delco Gold battery instead. And they said they'd have to remove the front passenger seat from the Durango to replace it. My wife put me on the phone and I told them that I'd personally replaced the battery, easily, without removing the seat.
Regardless, Midas stuck to their claim. Midas had my wife in a bad position - she has ligament damage in her wrist and could not replace the battery herself - and they milked it for over $700. $260 for the battery, $170 for the (incorrect) diagnosis, $170 to install the battery, and $51 for "shop supplies". That's bad enough, but the real kicker is that after the Durango had run as far as it could on the new battery, she got stranded because the problem was never the battery - it was the alternator, as AutoZone had said. I replaced the alternator, and it permanently fixed the problem (over 1000 miles driven confirms it). Needless to say, I'm mad as hell about this sorry experience, and I will be pursuing every available avenue to force them to make it right.

Go Anywhere Else!
September 16, 2024

Don't get ripped off there! I've used Midas on Atlantic Ave. In Jacksonville, FL several times for oil changes and tire rotations as they're convenient, but not especially quick with any work. Every time I'm there, they try to upsell me with hundreds to thousands of dollars in work that, when I have checked by an independent mechanic I've used for more extensive repairs, I've been told that the Midas-recommended repairs are unnecessary. Today I brought in a vehicle due to a check engine light needing a diagnostic, something that is FREE at every major car parts store. Midas charges $189. When their diagnostic said the repair was an air filter ($49), and a fuel system treatment ($229), AND they'd lower the diagnostic fee to $99, I opted for just the air cleaner. They then raised the diagnostic fee back to $189. NOT! A $15 air filter and a $7 top-rated fuel system cleaner does NOT rate a $278 repair! After making it clear that I don't patronize businesses that change prices like that, I finally paid $174 to them just to get out of this rip off shop. Congratulations Midas. That's the last penny you'll ever see from me, and you've earned this review now published throughout social media. I can only imagine how they try to rip off customers who don't know better.

No Accountability
April 17, 2024

I was travelling in TN June 2022. (I am from Ont, Canada) I ended up with a code on my 2017 Mercedes GLA 250 indicating my brake pads needed replacement. I contacted Midas in Nolensville Pk, Nashville and arranged to have pads and rotors replaced. I brought the car in service was done by the end of the day. Now March, 2024, I'm driving home and hear a clunk, my brake pedal drops to the floor, I'm running on half a brake system. I took the car to the nearest brake service garage(as the car was unsafe to drive). The technician had to replace the right rear caliper. He said 1 of my brake caliper bolts were not torqued. Leading to excessive caliper movement, the outer pad to fall off and the caliper piston to over travel and dump brake fluid. He replaced the caliper and the rear pads. The rotors were perfect. There are on 15k miles on the car since Midas did the brakes. I called Midas in Nolensville and spoke to Connor and explained what happened. He promised to call me back after he consulted with his manager and didn't. I called back again, the same thing again. I am out $700 cdn, because Midas Nolensville TN didn't torque a bolt on my brake calipers.

BE CAREFUL & WATCH OUT...THIS PLACE IS VERY SHADY! In med of June 2023, I went to Midas (2508 Calumet Str., Valparaiso, IN *******I) ordered (I paid) a part I needed (Silicone HTR hose) & I also paid for labor which is logical/reasonable to pay for services. Now in early October of 2023, I found out that the part (hose) I paid for was the wrong hose (which they told me in June it was the correct one): the part I got in June 2023 was just a "rubber hose" and the hot air burned a hole in it which cause my engine light to turn on.

So, as of Oct 24 2023, they got me the "correct" hose (Silicone HTR hose) but THEY REQUEST ME TO PAY FOR THE LABOR (AGAIN!) TO PUT IN THE CORRECT HOSE...which I ALREADY paid for the labor back in June 2023. I REFUSED to pay for additional labor because I paid for it in June already!: if they got the correct part/hose in the 1st place...I wouldn't have to waste my time/energy to get what I paid for. They should be paying me for my time/energy that I waisted for their incompetence!

I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE AGAIN! This is bad business and VERY CORRUPT: Midas puts in the wrong item that they got from a auto outlet...you have to come back...you don't have to pay for the correction...BUT you have to pay AGAIN for their hour labor: This is how they get you to come back.

YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR LABOR THE 2ND TIME FOR THEIR (MIDAS OF VALPARAISO') INCOMPENTENCE (LACK OF ABILITY TO DO SOMETHING...THEREFORE, DISQUALIFICATION, INABILITY, & UNFIT TO DO BUSINESS WITH THE POPULOUS)!

Takes advantage of women
August 12, 2023

Midas takes advantage of women, period! Zephyrhills FL Midas sold me 4 tires, alignment and other work which I later found out by a reputable shop was unnecessary work. I tried to replace my tires with less than 15K miles on them but they refused. I've contacted the Zephyrhills Midas (3 times) and corporate office (3 times), no reply. I will post my complaint on every website I can find re: Midas. Bad business! Takes advantage of women! Maybe a class action suit is in play because of the women who posted on the Midas corporate website. Shame on Midas!

Poor Exhaust System Installation
October 7, 2021

I brought my 2010 GLK 350 4matic in to get the exhaust system replaced for $1,425.00. I gave them all day to work on it (starting at 11:30 am). They budgeted for two hours. I got a call in less than one hour that my car was done. They rushed the job and for what? There were no other cars even there that day.

After the job, I test drove the car. There was a new engine noise that was never there before in the 11 years I've owned the car. It is a knocking noise. I have 7 different recordings of this noise that they caused on my phone. This noise is 100% a product of the work they did.

So, I immediately brought it back to Andy. "Can you please get rid of this noise that was not there before?" He took no blame for the noise and rushed me out of there within one minute. The business had no cars in there and he couldn't pull it in and diagnose the problem he caused?

I emailed him later that night. He will not do a thing and blames it on the oil change - which I got two months ago by Mercedes Northbrook. The noise was not there for the last two months or for the last 11 years.

Midas Auto Repair
February 18, 2021

Been a customer since 1981 when I started driving and my Father was a loyal customer for years before that. Never had any issues until lately and specifically in Southeast Tennessee. There was a complete lack of professionalism demonstrated by the shop manager and lead tech. The manager would bend your ear complaining about the poor pay and then burden you for hours with all of his personal problems. My particular classic vehicle had a week old paint job and other significant restoration work just completed and they scratched the paint over the front fender while leaning over the engine, without fender mats. They denied they caused the damage of curse but the vehicle went from paint and body to them for other mechanical repairs. The exhaust system was the worst hack job I have ever seen. The catalytic converter was from another manufacturer altogether, the muffler was installed "upside down and backwards" according to the other Midas shop in town, other emissions equipment was not correctly reinstalled and consequently was inoperative, the list of failures goes on and on. The other Midas shop in town laughed at the hack shop... I mean literally laughed, but said they would need to contact corporate and open a complaint to get authorization to order the parts and fix it there. After a couple of months of talking and waiting on them with no parts and no resolution, I gave up and took it to a competent mechanic who easily fixed the blunders created by Midas. Guess there really is no Nationwide warranty after all. It took me days and countless hours to get a "customer service" clerk on the phone and then all she could do was listen to my complaint and offered no resolution. Almost everything they touched I had to have done again somewhere else. Including a trip to the local pick and pull salvage yard to get a coil bracket they discarded when replacing the coil. Some issues I had them diagnosing they never could identify or resolve, which where subsequently easily diagnosed and fixed by another shop in town. The only reason I gave them two stars is the set of tires I purchased from them were really good tires and still in use on my truck. I would stay away from Midas for important repairs, at least in this part of the country.

I have been going to the Midas of North Plainfield NJ for years. (697 Route 22 West North Plainfield, NJ 07*******853). They do a great job and there is always a coupon. They also check your car and are very honest about their assessment. My husband has done my brake job and when they looked at it they asked who did the brakes because the job was done perfectly.
Right next door you can get an oil change for $90, but at Midas a synthetic cost $39 with a coupon.

Midas overcharges drastically for common parts-period, end of sentence! Even if you have a clunker they will tell you they must put top of the line parts on it-baloney!
