Match Reviews Summary

Match.com exhibits a polarized reputation among its users, with significant concerns overshadowing its strengths. Positive feedback highlights the site's potential for connecting users, particularly for younger demographics, and its broad user base. However, a predominant sentiment reflects dissatisfaction with customer service, marked by unresponsive support, unjust account terminations, and perceived deceptive practices regarding subscription fees. Many users report frustrations over a lack of transparency and the prevalence of fake profiles, leading to a sense of mistrust. Overall, while Match.com offers opportunities for connections, its customer service and business practices warrant serious scrutiny.

Charges a year later!
October 17, 2016

They are crocks. I've received charges on my credit card a year after I cancelled. I deactivated my account and a year later my credit card received new charges for services. They refuse to give a refund, because they said I didn't deactivate when there was a record of me calling to deactivate the account.

I cancelled my account well before my renewal date but never knew I needed a confirmation email after the site told me that my account is cancelled and wouldn't charge me again. I tried to remove my credit card number off the site as I had a gut feeling they may charge me even if I cancelled, but no luck. Well today they charged me $160! I called to complain and it was the Phillipines. They read off script and will not refund you and when you are adamant you cancelled they hang up on you. I advise anyone trying to close their match account to make sure to cancel the credit card number they have on file well before the date of renewal. You will never get your money back!

DO NOT GO WITH MATCH.COM
October 13, 2016

I am not going to go into detail, but long story short. You might find someone, but odds are you wont. There are fake profiles and you have to pay extra just to guarantee someone can email you back. Your either a member or your not, when did it get more complicated than that. Big issue if you do not cancel your auto renewal your not getting your money back so enjoy another however many months you payed of useless service. They are just out for your money and nothing else. They want to charge you for everything. I have another month that I have apparently paid for so I am using my last month to basically say the same thing here... They suck and will take your money that's it.

Here is one thing that upsets me. A gorgeous young woman sends me a like that hits my email. I click on that immediately and say WOW! Then I check and the site says "profile not available." What? I just got the message!? So clearly a typical bait and switch attention-getter but false advertising. So then I wonder... other women rarely respond. I'm not that ugly, I'm not that rude, I'm not that... But maybe 1 in 20 reply. Some rejection I can take! But... really... If I can't trust the one... can I trust the other? I think not.

Wouldnt recommend
October 11, 2016

Their price tag doesnt justify the low quality of matches they provide. In addition to this issue, their customer service is HORRIBLE and they are unwilling to provide refund information or resolutions. When you finally get a rep, then you get bounced around multiple times to people that barely speak English and dont care to help you. I wouldnt recommend this service or their website considering what youre paying for just to meet LOW caliber people.

Lying about age
October 9, 2016

I have emailed Match 3 instances of where women have shaved 4 to 5 years off their ages., and all Match has to do is check their own records to see that this is the case. Yet these women are still active on Match. Money over integrity nd I m sure thst men do the same. Beware,

Scam.
October 7, 2016

The first few days I signed up for Match, it seemed my profile got a decent amount of attention. I could see how many people viewed me, liked my profile, etc., and I was hopeful. I got some messages. I also sent out a decent amount of messages, and unfortunately, received no responses. I still pressed on. Then after a couple of weeks, I started noticing that the number of people who even just viewed my profile dropped significantly. Soon, it was almost none - maybe one or two every few days. I started thinking, are they not putting my profile out anymore? I found it hard to believe that no one was even just looking (not saying liking it, just viewing it). But, I told myself, maybe this just isn't meant for me, and no one is really interested (not trying to sound pitiful, just saying I stopped trying to blame Match). So I canceled my membership, however, since I had paid for three months, it was still active for another couple of weeks.

Then, literally on the day my account went inactive, I got six notifications through email that people "liked" my profile, messaged me, were interested in me. I tried to check, thinking maybe I had one more day... and sure enough, got a message saying my account was deactivated, and I would have to renew my subscription to see the messages. How convenient.

Oh, how do you give 0 stars? Where do I start? They want your credit card for starters... on a trial membership that locks you in if you do not cancel... via online. I had trouble the 2nd. I phone in but was locked out during the help call. I was told it woild take 2 days to get comtacted about the problem. Meaning that I woild be locked in for 3 months according to the contract agreement. I cancelled my credit card payment to avoid a problem. But this was just the tip of the iceberg sort of speaking. I could go on and on but why was more of my time on this poor site. Just so you know, I have been on 4 others sites one "sucks" the most. Try POF for a far better time and a connection without the luggage this site carries.

I have been a member of Match.com for almost one year. I haven't found any girl which had girlfriend material but I enjoyed plenty of good dates and met dozens of nice women. Conclusion: Absolutely good dating site and I think it may be the biggest I have found.

Only reason why I stopped using it was because I found Mingle2day.com being a better site for my needs. It is pretty similar to Match.com but it was more affordable for me.

Match.com is a great dating site. Don't pay attention to all those frustrated reviewers trying to make you believe that it is a scam because it is simply not!

I signed up with Match for 3 months. By the 2nd month I made sure to get on my settings and unsubscribe for future renewal billing. I did not know I was supposed to get a cancelation number. After 3 months I was billed again and went through to find a number or contact info. Not easy to find. When I spoke to someone she said it can't be refunded even though they know I haven't been on it since the 2nd month. Their customer service is in the Philippines and you can barely understand them. They do not care whether you are refunded or not. I asked for the supervisor but I am sure he was not a supervisor either. I have been unemployed just after I signed up for this service which is why I canceled it. NEVER WILL I USE THIS SERVICE AGAIN. They are the worst for customer service! I would give them ZERO stars if I could.

Folks - I dabbled with Match.com for three months also and managed to get them to shut off the billing, but I understand how it can stay under your radar. There is a simple solution to this, for this site and anything else you want to control with internet purchasing. My banker clued me in. All you do is:

A) create a separate checking account, with one c. C. tied to it
B) keep just enough money in there to pay for the one-time (or whatever) thing you're charging against it. Make yourself email reminders for when something is supposed to come due and re-bill and just empty the account enough so the billing will fail.

My banker does this himself. Since many of these dating sites have overseas billing, most banks (Umpqua Bank anyway) have trigger alerts that will automatically lock the card and reject the purchase if it's a first time / unknown vendor, or, if you've cleared the vendor with your bank/card and they try to hit the card again with no money, it will fail, and as they will auto-repeat the billing attempts, continued failures will tell their system to give up.

It may seem like a hassle to set up a distinct account just for internet, but it makes a lot of sense. All these banks have online banking now where you can transfer money between account easily and it's easy to manage, I've been doing it for awhile now If a lot of people get wise and start doing this, these greasy sites will start cleaning up their billing machinery. At the least, they won't get your money. It's just plain dangerous to have hard-to-reveal vendors hitting your main bank account. Treat them like the that they are. Good luck.

BEWARE of automatic billing. You will receive no heads up warning email from Match that your subscription is coming due and will be automatically renewed --- most companies issue such an email about 3 days prior to the auto-renewal.
Very poor customer service. While I was on the live chat, I had to ask three times for a phone number, and then, of course, you get on the phone with a person overseas who is reading from a script. Again, very poor customer service.

I signed up for a Match.com account because of their 'match guarentee' that says if you don't find someone within 6 months, you'll get another 6 months free. However, when the 6 months came around, and all the criteria had been met, I instead found myself charged over $120 from an automatic renewal fee. Apparently they sent an email that I never received, in which I had to accept the free 6-months. Since I never got the email, and thus, couldn't accept the free 6-month membership, they found that it made sense to charge my account instead. They didn't want to make me take the free trail (in case I didn't want to contiue the membership), but they didn't feel bad about charging me for another six months in lieu of the free trail, stating their 'nobel' cause, "For your convenience and to avoid an interruption in communication with your matches."

When I caught the charge, there was no refund, no prorated refund for the remaining months. No flexibility. No ethical approach.

I would never recommend Match. They are a money-making ploy with a few lucky people in the middle. Instead of using Match, I would recommend E-harmony. Or, for those of you who don't want to spend any money, try one of the free sites WITHOUT hidden charges. Tinder, for example! Just be forthright in your bio. No one likes sneaky people. You can't respect them.

It takes a lot for me to write a bad review. It kinda crushes my soul to do so. However, simultaneously, my blood is boiling. I feel taken advantage of and played. How I hate that feeling! I hate even more the fact that they refused to even try to make things right. I can't respect that. I can't respect Match.

Absolutely horrible
September 16, 2016

I got match for a trial to try it out. Realized almost a year later they had been charging my account $65 a month when I hadn't used the account or know I was being charged for it. I called to ask them to check to confirm I had not used the account for a year and they confirmed and would not refund ANY money. Absolutely horrible customer service. I would NEVER recommend match to anyone.

I purchased, like the stupid girl I am, a 6 month subscript because of the guarantee that if I had not met anyone, I would be given another 6 months free. Boy did that go down the drain.

Then they glitch on their site, and it changes me to a man seeking men. This is with out my knowledge, and finally when I get back on after becoming so frustrated with the lack of messages that happened due to this glitch, I miss my cut off by one day to message enough people so as to not lose my guarantee.
So, they change me into a gay guy, and wonder why I didn't make my message requirements?!

This site is also not very well formatted, in that just anyone can message you. I try to be nice and let the guy know if I'm not interested, but I think I'm the only person in the world who has any consideration left.

They also nickle and dime you to go on meet ups, yes, I get that outings cost money, but couldn't they at least include like one or 2 free so you know if you'll be waiting your time on future dud outings?

Non active profiles
September 9, 2016

This website is so bogus. Profiles that are non active. Profile pics that resemble wanted posters or have been hijacked from another site. Most of the men are angry and bitter old men (over 50YO) who get off playing games or who are on there just for the "hookup ". Don't waste your money or time on this site.

I believed I have busted Match.com today by accident. Their computer error has 'accidentally' sent me a long list of female who have gotten the same BOGUS/FRAUDULENT message in their inbox as I have gotten by another alias woman trying to set me up with a potential male date. After the list appear then dissapeared on my iPhone screen, Match.com then locked me out of my account completely. If anyone have experience this, PLEASE CONFIRM. I wrote Match the problem I'd experienced. If I don't hear back from them major LEGAL repercussion WILL be swiftly act upon. This is BS and UNEXCEPTABLE!

Scam and unethical
September 8, 2016

I was not a subscriber but while trying to update my old profile as a member, they featured me unwittingly, as top spot and charged me for something I would NEVER pay extra for. When I complained, they said they cannot refund me and ultimately deactivated my account for fraud use. So now I lost access to my previous account, am forced to subscribe using new name, email, and payment info. Ironically, even if I did, they still haven't explained how I could have been set up to pay into being featured for top spot.
