KnitPicks yarns are top quality. The patterns are lovely and so are the tools and accessories. I have had to call about replacing broken knitting needles and customer service promptly replaced the items for free.
I have consistently used KnitPicks in the past knowing that I have to order early for any projects I plan to do since it does take them a longer time to ship out orders than most other fiber companies. Due to their recent stance choosing to support Ravelry, I will now be searching for a new commercial yarn supplier for my wool yarns.
I love the products, but who has to pay for shipping AND wait for more than two weeks for domestic delivery? I understand waiting for free shipping, but paying for shipping and waiting more than two weeks for an order is just cheap, horrible customer service. AND don't get me started on how easy it is to snap a knitpicks knitting needle either. Bad quality fiber art accessories and horrible customer service. Too bad, great product, but a lot of shops have great products. Time to look for a new yarn supplier.
I have used their needles for years and love them. But if something goes south with your order, don't expect customer service to care or even try to help you. Never even got the courtesy of a response.
I had a couple of largish orders from this company and was totally happy.
However I was recently sent an offer for a free pattern, when I tried to get the pattern the system wanted £6.99 shipping, despite the pattern being sent electronically- I also had to enter credit card details to get the pattern.
I emailed customer services, who assured me my card would not be charged- sadly I believed them.
I HAVE BEEN CHARGED £6.99 FOR MY FREE PATTERN, WHICH, I COULD HAVE PAID £4.54 FOR
I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY AGAIN
Plan on 2 weeks MINIMUM for your order to arrive. My last order never did come. I contacted Customer Service and they happily said they would send out another order at no charge. HOWEVER they sent it by their regular shipping, which seriously stays 2-3 days in each location as it travels around the country. If they were interested in good customer service, they would have sent the replacement order with expedited shipping. This second order still has not arrived and it has been 10 days and counting. I placed the original order 4 weeks ago.
Literally. I could raise a sheep, shear it, spin the wool, dye it, and knit it up faster than I can get my order from knit picks. They use the S L O W E S T shipping method available, despite charging for shipping. Their yarn is mediocre too, so I only buy it if I need cheap.
I call customer service because that color wasn't what I expect so I try exchange and she say it not gonna be the same. Instead sorry for the waht happen.and told me I need to pay for the shipping. Why I have to pay for shipping she said you don't have to retune. Or use post office its cheaper.
And she said retune and reorder.
But they have minium order.
Retune cost $6.99 and minium order for $50
Just exchange.
That wrong color yarn I will put in the garbage.
I used their "merino style" yarn to make what would have been an heirloom quality sweater of my own design with 11 different aran patterns, which took months of intensive knitting to make. HUGE MISTAKE. After just one wearing it pilled like crazy. It won't hold it's shape - there were actually built-in sags around the elbows after only a few wearings. And it simply won't clean. I've hand-washed it enough times to clean it, but the cuffs and front edges are permanently dirty. And I've pulled off the pills so much that it's thinned the fabric extensively. And the company won't publish negative reviews or respond to complaints. Don't buy their yarn unless you don't care about the quality of the finished item.
I have always loved knitpicks and have been shopping with them for 10 years... yarn and notions and needles. I also buy from my LYS so have a good perspective on quality and service. I recently asked for a replacement on cables that had passed the warranty period of 1 year. They politely replaced the cables (one time courtesy) and didn't hassle me at all. Quick, easy and top notch.
While this company offers a pretty enticing selection of fibers and accessories for knitting, after having ordered from them for a couple of years, I find myself growing increasingly disenchanted with them. Something went terribly wrong with an order I placed a couple of months ago and they shipped a duplicate of most of the original order out after I had already received the order and charged me a second time. Granted, their customer service was great at addressing this problem, and promptly refunded what I was erroneously charged.
However, I had returned one set of needles to be exchanged for a different size. After not hearing anything for a while, I called and was told that yes, I would be receiving the exchange needles. More time passed and I then received a refund check in the mail with no notation as to what it was for. I called again. They informed me it was a refund for the returned needles. I asked about the exchange item and they said they had no record of that. On that call, they asked me what I wanted to exchange for and took my credit card info to send out the item. A good, quick resolution. However, when I received the needles and cast on a new project, I immediately noticed one of the needles was splintered, snagging my yarn. So now, I will have to return those, too.
It's becoming too much of a hassle to deal with the constant problems with the orders form this company. I think I will steer clear and shop elsewhere, despite their vast offerings.
I am quite disappointed with this company. I put my order in on a Sunday and it did not get shipped out till that Thursday. They contract with FedEx who also contracts with another company. My shipment keeps getting delayed. I will not buy again from Knit Picks.
I have been a shopper and fan of Knit Picks yarn, needles, and fiber online store for many years. I got one bad product from them, and wrote a review twice describing the fault in their size 0,6" Caspian Sea DPNs, and they have never posted either one. Obviously, they don't want users to have an honest assessment of this product, which is useless as it breaks within minutes of regular use. I really liked Knit Picks before, but this is dishonest business practice.
Huge variety of yarns, especially if you're like me and enjoy working with fingering/sock weight yarn. Affordable prices, too. They ship pretty quickly (with the possible exception of high-traffic times like Cyber Monday) and customer service is excellent. I just wish they hadn't discontinued my favorite yarn (Felici).
Everything I have ever ordered from Knit Picks has been exceptional! I have never been disappointed with their products or their shipping times and communications. They have gone out of their way to ensure that my products arrive on time and in a manner acceptable to me! Highly recommended company to buy from.
Very fast shipping, no mistakes on the order, good packaging.
The products themselves are really good quality and not expensive. I like to group with friends to split the canadian shipping. No nasty surprises with customs either.
All-in-all a very nice and clean experience.
Knitpicks has their own house brand of yarn, importing directly from mills in South America cutting out the middle distributor. This lets their prices be competitive while retaining the quality other brand name yarn boasts. They're pretty good about keeping up with the current trend - silk blends, eco-wool/cotton, etc but I've never actually ordered or used the yarn. I'm not a fan of their colour palettes for the main weights (worsted, bulky) although they do offer a tantalizing section of sock and lace weight yarn. For me, what I like the best is their array of good quality knitting needles. I've ordered 2 sets, one was delayed because it was around Christmas time (not their fault) and the other one came timely. In general, highly recommended if you're knitting on a budget but don't like acrylic or craft quality yarn.
