These shikifitons tend to collapse under my weight which is only 145. I sleep alone with my cat. They shouldn't be collapsing as new futons. They are sending me a replacement. I hope and pray this one is better. I may have to open it and add material to make it usable.

It is a total scam! Do not buy from J-life international! I paid lots of money for a high quality product, they sent me a poor quality one, nothing what was described. Then they refused to refund! On top of that they charged me for shipping, yet they failed to pay to the shipping company and now I get a bill from the shipping company too. Complete scam! There are plenty of other good online companies, but this one is the worst I've ever dealt with!

I recently had a less-than-pleasant experience with J-Life International, and I feel compelled to share my thoughts to help others make informed decisions.

I decided to purchase the shikifuton bundle for its convenience, but my excitement quickly turned into disappointment. The website advertised free shipping, but it seems this is only applicable within the United States. After placing my order, I was surprised to find out that the buckwheat hull pillows couldn't be included in the bundle, making everything feel overpriced.

To add to the frustration, after shelling out $1400 USD, I received an email stating that the $45 charged for shipping wasn't sufficient for Canada and that I needed to pay an additional $400 for shipping. This unexpected demand for extra payment raised serious concerns about transparency and accurate pricing information.

In light of these issues and my growing unease, I decided to request a refund. I'm grateful I did, especially after reading other reviews that echoed similar sentiments.

Overall, my experience with J-Life International left much to be desired. The discrepancy in shipping costs, unavailability of bundled items, and the seemingly high prices all contributed to a disappointing purchasing process. It's my hope that by sharing my experience, others can make informed decisions when considering J-Life International for their purchases.

This site sells poor quality stuff made in China stuff. I was given an item from this website as gift, it is not only poorly copied, the packaging was broke, the color is off and a cheap piece of paper covered the bottom which is piled with junks!

Cheap quality
December 21, 2023

The tatami mats are cheap made in China products. They also came with dust mites. Shikibuton is actually spelled incorrectly,
That should have been the give away. Lumpy shikifuton never aired out properly, always uncomfortable. Within a few days I went to the doctor due to itching at night. Seems I got complimentary dust mites. To ship back its almost double the price of the product. Don't buy from them. Buy from a legitimate japanese seller.

We ordered 3 shikifutons from this company. We already have one at home and were pleased with the item. They've clearly changed quality or manufacturer because the new ones we received are nothing like the previous ones. They're either faulty or defective because they're lumpy, the cover doesn't fit at all. The company responded that they should "fluff up" over time, which is not the case. They make you pay for returns shipping and a 25% restocking fee -- note that there are no reviews of the items on their website and/or their social media. We're not at all happy with this customer and would recommend caution if purchasing. Clearly not worth over $300 per mattress.

I ordered two japanese style pillows on August 19th, 2023. I ordered them for a birthday on September 6th. On September 1st, I reached out to check the status - no one ever answers the phone. No one returned my voicemail message. Again, I called September 6th. No response again. Today I called, September 11th. No one answers and no one replied.

Crappy service.

J-Life is a TOTAL SCAM
August 23, 2023

I purchased the "Complete Shikifuton Tatami Mat Bundle - Twin Size" in August of 2023 and was very disappointed! The tatami mat was very obviously a CHEAPLY MADE CHINESE product (it literally uses CARDBOARD on the sides). Not only that, but there was a crack/break in the mat around 2 feet from one of the ends that isn't visible on the outside but is easy to feel when you walk on the mat.

The futon itself is VERY HEAVY and, reading the tag, is made by Standard Mattress Co. From Hartford, CT... it's not at all a real Japanese shikifuton and instead just a rebranded American futon. You'd be much better off going to somewhere like Takaokaya (https://takaokaya-kyoto.com/en-us) instead—you can probably get something better and cheaper too.

I would recommend you STAY AWAY from this product. While J-Life isn't a scam in the sense that they do ship a product, the product is not at all the quality Japanese product it portrays itself to be.

When I tried to review their product and give a 1 or 2 star, the website simply refused to load/submit the form. This company very obviously doesn't play by the rules and allow customers to give a fair opinion.

It is an interesting business model - sell a product that is so cumbersome and heavy that it is cost-wise and from a repackaging standpoint nearly impossible to ship back. Then, if someone complains about the lumpy shikibuton with unevenly distributed fillig that emits an odor that causes and asthmatic reaction, ignore them or make statements like, "oh well, some people just don't like the smell." Well, some people don't appreciate being messed over financially and stuck with a product they can't use because it makes them ill to be in the same room with it. The cover was flimsy, had no gusset to accomodate the width of the mattress, and was impossible to get on the shikibuton. That, at least they returned. But, it was something that actually could be shipped back. I filed a dispute with my credit card company, and J-Life's reps talked their way out of it. Well, you know, like protects like, and the consumer has no choice but to complain publically on sites like this. Buyer beware!
