Our father passed away unexpectedly from Covid in December 2020, our elderly mother was moved from their lifelong home in October 2021. My sister called in and cancelled their services at that time. Our mother passed away unexpectedly in November of 2022 and all of her credit cards were cancelled.
Today we received a collections notice for the Hughes.net for services that had been cancelled 16 MONTHS ago.
We have been on the phone with their representative for well over an hour and not only will they not refund the STOLEN monthly charges, they are asking for their equipment back.
This is beyond sick and illegal.
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!
Horrible company. I Set it up for my father They took the liberty of putting it in my name. Multiple phone calls for hours each time, did nothing to resolve the issue of taking my name off the account. After my father passed away and the account was cancelled, they say there is still a balance on his account and now they are coming after me with a collections agency. I've been passed around to 7 different people at this point. Each one states they have resolved the problem. What a circus. I don't know how they stay in business!
Very frustrating to contact by phone
After installation there was no internet service
Still waiting for some type of resolution
I suggest you look on Facebook for groups of kind people helping each other get rid of them. HN has horrible throttled speeds and lack of support. They will keep upping your price, having you add on services or tokens that don't improve anything. They will gladly take your money, then won't let you cancel. I suggest before you cancel to get a new credit card first and cancel your card on file with them. They are likely to bill you hundreds of dollars within hours, without your consent for canceling. Record ALL phone calls with them and save copies! Report them to the FCC or the BBB to get out of your contract or to get your cancelation fees back. Take screenshots of your Internet speeds. If you don't believe me, look this stuff up.
Can you say slow? Or not at all. Not advisable to use.At times you may sat and wait for what seems like forever to load and then it will say no internet service. Real disappointing.
We've had this service for over two years because we don't have anything else available. They start off average but then slow you down. They blame and come up with excuses for there poor service. They miraculously speed you up like there doing you a favor and then after a couple of days your back to barley opening a browser. Dial up is faster. Worst service in the world. Can't wait for star link.
I got HughesNet for my STR. I am now selling my property. I called to cancel the service and they were not helpful at all. They want me to pay $325 for early cancellation! I could understand if I did not have a legitimate reason. I do not need the service at my home. /the service I have is not fast but is better than HughesNet. I have called and talked to them, but they have no options for selling your property and no longer needing their service. I had no other choice for the area of my STR. At best it was spotty connection. I was within 3 feet of the router and I lost connection several times during my time at the house. I had a quickset lock that would drain its batteries within 3 days or less because of the connection with the router. ( brought the lock to my home and it has not missed a beat in over 2 months and still has lots of battery left). I would give them a 0 but had to give a 1. They need an option for people selling their houses and not needing service any more. I DO NOT reccommend them to anyone I will do without internet if they are the only option!
I could not say enough about the scamming and legally contrived scripted assault on your pocketbook from this unusable service
Retired on techie victim not able to leave a picture but will provide email if a secure location appears in this review form.
I've had Hughesnet for 7 years and never had a problem with it slowing down until I reached the end of the month. It resets on the 4th of every month. This month I used all my data in three days? So I bought tokens and they were gone in a day. No one in tech support has any explanation. $95. A month, $15. More for tokens and it's running so slowly by the 8th day it's useless. Can't even watch one movie. Then when I say I'm going to drop them, and get a new provider they say they are very careful about changing providers. I'm sure they will try to charge me more money to switch but right now Hughesnet is completely useless.
Run far and fast from Hughes Net, it's the worst internet on planet earth! If you can actually get something to load, it continuously buffers until…"Oops, something went wrong, check your internet connection". My small critter cam froze anywhere from 15-30 seconds out of a minute, so I missed a lot of activity from my domesticated wildlife, which eat out of my hand and occasionally come in for a brief visit. Luckily I have unlimited data on my phone because, you guessed it, couldn't use my phone either! When contacting customer service, I was told numerous times that they understood my concern, and did I wanna purchase more tokens. I just wanted what I was paying for, which was working internet, and for almost 2 years I NEVER GOT IT. They drafted $164.20 off my credit card every month though and every month they drafted it a day earlier. By the time I finally disconnected, my draft date went from the 16th of each month to the 1st of each month. I questioned that and the response was that my bill was computer generated—WTF? I never got my $100 rebate and was charged 4 different times for the final bill, luckily my CHASE credit card disputed charges immediately (thank you CHASE)! I gave them an address to send a box to return their equipment and all they did was send the box to my old address and sent me a bogus text from USPS telling me there was a problem delivering, resend address along with cc information (which looked very legitimate). Why would the USPS text me on a Sunday, and how would they have my"phone number"? I was smart enough to check with the local post office and guess what…BOGUS! I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well. HUGHES NET NEEDS TO BE STOPPED!
Worst. Customer service is rude and won't help. I cannot load a single google map. Service turned over yesterday so I have full data but they lie about the data. Been loading this map page 10 minutes and it's blurry imagery. It's for work. I upgraded to their terrible business plan and of course it doesn't work any better than before- it's worse. Cant check email. Definitely cannot shop online. You definitely cannot stream or watch YouTube bc you'd use your entire data in a day. I probably just used 1/2 my data trying to load google maps though it never loaded. Hughes is a legally protected scam. Due to their lies it's impossible for me to even do my job- I cannot check email! I call every week and do every single they say and it's still useless expensive garbage.
I paid $86 a month for 25mbps, but on a good night get maybe 5. Here lately though I've been averaging about 7 kbps and at 1 point it dropped down to. 70 kbps. I got about 6 months left on my contract and once that's up I'm canceling this crap. I'll never recommend their service to anybody.
Only 2 devices would work at a time but not 2 TV's only 1 tv and a smart vacuum. When it rains or is cloudy you don't get any service. After the first month they said I used up all my data in one day when I wasn't home. Couldn't stream anything after 6pm. Customer service guy tried to gaslight me. Told me to unplug tv or disconnect from internet when not using even if the tv is off then argued with me about he never said to unplug them. Their only solution was for me to pay for more data or upgrade plan. My cell phone had better Internet while roaming than it did on their wifi. When I told the guy I was not receiving the data speeds I was promised he still charged me the $400 Disconnect fee. DO NOT GET THEIR SERVICE!
Crappy service since we received it. Contract finally ended, went to cancel it, told it would automatically cancel. Didn't automatically cancel was charged. Called to figure everything out and the lady was extremely rude telling me it wasn't their fault it wasn't canceled, started to refuse to let me talk to a supervisor. I finally explained they could either let me talk to a supervisor or I would gladly get ahold of my lawyer for the damages received to my property during the installation. Luckily I got my refund and the service was canceled but it's so sad you have to threaten to sue before you get any decent customer service.
The worst service ever they keep asking for money they can come get this router and Hugh satellite. I haven't watched TV it sucks TMobile internet works better and it's 50 bucks. They are scammers and need to give everyone they money back.
Absolutely terrible internet, nowhere near the speed promised, not fast enough to stream Netflix all it does is buffer and buffer, and that's on sunny days without a cloud in the sky. Calling customer service is an absolute waste of time, I don't understand how they can get away with a early termination fee when they basically lie about how fast and reliable hugesnet service is. It's slower than dial up internet. It's sunny outside today Netflix, Disney+, YouTube tv, Hulu all buffer's non stop and it gives me one error code after the next, when you look up what they are, there all the internet speed is to slow or non-existent and asks you to check your connection. At the wee hours of the night 2am to 4am I can stream but it takes 4 hours with buffering 100 times to watch 1 tv show on Netflix. 85 dollars a month for 2 year's and it doesn't work, and I don't know how I would return the lmb thing on the satellite to hugesnet as it's attached to my satellite dish on the very edge of my 3rd story porch roof, there's no way for me to take it off, I don't have a extension ladder to retrieve there equipment, and if you don't they charge you another 400.00 for something they installed and you want cancelled. Unacceptable. I hate hugesnet it's nothing but a lie, I get 5 upload 10 down load and the ping is only like 1.1 tops. It's incredibly slow.
This internet sucks. You won't get the speeds they tell your if you call them be prepared to "fix" the issue yourself with a non English speaking representative because of you ask for tech to come
Out you will be charged! That's correct, you have to pay for them to send someone out to fix their product! If you try to cancel your contract because you will not get the minimum speed you contracted for and was promised they want to charge a termination fee! Don't use this internet it won't run Hulu, Netflix or prime. And if you are working from him, good luck! Most disappointing service I've ever purchased or had to deal with.
While having our service on hold while we put all our stuff in storage and looked for a place to buy in another state, we were charged $70 For a month when it should have been $40, we just called to cancel our service and were charged $569.00 ripped off! Beside having data caps, our monthly rate was going up from 69.99 a month to 155 a month, The people that work there are so RUDE and don't care about the customer, They also ripped us off from getting a $200 gift card when we signed up with Hugenet ripoff, The only reason they got a 1 star is I couldn't go any lower, DONT USE them
After purchasing and 1 year contract promising high speed internet, speed test indicated upload 0, upload 7! That's not speed and certainly not HIGH SPEED! Hughes net failed to meet the quality in their contract, however they expected their contract money that they failed to deliver on! Not a worthy or reliable internet provider! Thumbs down
Go with anyone but HughesNet - PLEASE heed this warning! We've been with them a short 4 months and went from paying $69/month to over $500/month only two months later. Their customer service says any devices that connect to internet MUST be unplugged from the wall jack = how many ppl you know who unplug their work computers on their lunch break, or unplug their TVs after watching the evening news!? This is the stupid nonsense they state we must do to prevent our wifi from being sucked dry! We pay for unlimited each month, but once we reach 30gb, our speed is slowed down to 80mbps = slow as molasses! And their "tokens" are a load of bunk = $75 each time you want a full day of wifi! Adds up dang quick. And so now we are faced with fees of close to $1000 because we want to end our contract! Total BS! DO A FAVOR FOR YOURSELF & GO WITH ANYONE ELSE! WE WISH WE HAD KNOWN ABOUT THIS PRIOR TO GETTING SRVC WITH THEM!
