HomeEssentialsDepot has 32 customer reviews and ranks 152nd in the Hardware Store category. Common review topics include customer service, 48 hours, 20% restocking fee.
I ordered a lawn mower 2-pack wheel kit from Home Essentials Depot. Also noted that they had free 30 day returns. Seemed safe enough. When I received the shipment, it contained only one wheel. I called the shipping company (Marr Bros.) and was told that the order was correct and I needed to call HED. They said I needed to order two of the 2 Pack kits to get two wheels. The product was falsely described by the HED people. Also, the return policy requires that I pay for all shipping costs plus a 20% restocking fee. I'm now estimating my cost to return this item will be around $20 or more when all I paid initially was $33.81. I do believe I have been totally ripped off. I can't reach HED customer service. This whole scam is playing out for HED as they make you think you are buying a pair of wheels then make it too costly for you to return the product for a refund.
I needed an out of production instant hot water heater--the replacement model was larger than its predecessor and didn't fit the space I had. Thought I'd found it at Home Essentials as they specifically advertised the model I needed (at a higher price than Amazon charged for the replacement unit, but I figured they were charging more because no more were being produced). They did not ship the advertised model, but instead the replacement. It took them way too long to authorize the return, and they then refused (or, rather, ignored) my request that they reimburse me the cost ($20+) of returning the INCORRECT unit they sent me. VERY dissatisfied.
Wonderful experience! Could not have been easier! Best price! Fastest shipping! Smooth transaction! I will be back.
Not happy with the customer service. Item arrived right before Christmas, so we didn't open the box until after the holidays. Sink was cracked in half. Immediately ordered another sink as we couldn't wait to deal with the return processing (we are a contractor and this was for a customer whose bathroom was torn apart). They won't accept the return as they claim we're past the deadline (which they only give 48 hours-- which it lists on the packing slip INSIDE the box that we didn't open for a week). My claim was originally approved, but then they decided I was past deadline. Of course this was after they went back and forth with us for almost two weeks requesting photos, order info, etc. After two weeks they decide they won't refund for the damaged product. Should have taken my business elsewhere. Will NEVER order from them again. Now I'm stuck with a broken sink I paid full price for. Worst part is now I have to pay to dispose of it. Terrible experience.
Never use this company.
Nightmare company.
After sending a deflected toilet, they won't refund me due to 30 day policy even if the manufacturer says I have 360 days to be protected.
Horrible customer service.
They hung up on me when I called when I was keep talking.
I ordered I front door handle/lock set. I had to pay to have it installed. But after installed I noticed that the product was damaged (tarnished). I contacted the company request a 10% -20% return on my purchase because I am not going to pay to have it uninstalled and then reinstalled and they wouldn't not honor my request, knowing the situation. They wanted me to remove the item and return it. They have horrible customer service. STAY AWAY from this company!
A very expensive sink arrived with virtually no packaging material, totally smashed. They refused a refund because they only give 48 hours from when you receive the package. Dishonest thieves!
This company is a 3rd party seller from a big online website. I received my toilet, damaged goods and they refused to replace. This is $1165. 00 toilet with washlet, not cheap. Awful customer service. I called them 10x and kept getting voicemail. I was advised that distributor like Home Essentials Depot are given product allowance by the big toilet company which they can use to replace damaged goods. They just ignored my claim.
I am escalating my complaint from them, the website company and Corporate. Toilet company is most helpful and will be contacting them to remind them of the agreement to use allowances. My renovation is held back due to this!
This is the most untrustworthy, deceiving and unscrupulous seller I have ever dealt with on Amazon. I purchased a Baldwin Deadbolt lock and from the limited description they provided on the web page it was my impression that the lock has keys on both sides which what I was looking for but I could not tell for sure because they only showed one picture of the front and I figured I can always return it if it is not what I'm looking for. As it turned out, that was deceiving. The lock arrived and when I opened the box I immediately saw a nob on the back side without having to take the lock out of the box. On the packing slip it stated this was a special order and not returnable and this was not stated on the web page. I contacted Amazon and relayed all that to them and I received an Email from the seller stating they will accept the return but I will have to pay for the return shipping cost and on top of that I will be charged 20% restocking fee and none of that was stated anywhere on the web page. Had any of that was clear to me from the beginning I would have never placed my order with this damn seller. Several Emails exchanged with Amazon and the seller and I was given the impression that the 20% restocking fee will be waived but not the shipping cost. So I decided to end this disgusting experience and return the damn lock and pay the shipping cost. A week later I get an Email from Amazon advising me they are processing my refund and it turned out the 20% restocking fee was actually deducted after all and that was again deceiving. So now to return this lock, it cost me half what I paid for it in the first place. I would have been better off keeping the damn lock and given it away to someone than wasting my money on this damn seller. I disputed that with Amazon and all I got was "Sorry, you can submit an A-to-Z Guarantee claim". I am shocked and appalled that Amazon have not been helpful or supportive in this instance. I made this purchase in good faith trusting and relying on Amazon to stand behind their customer in case of any dispute with their sellers. It is always been my experience, I don't know what happened this time. I should point out, I hardly have any disputes in my years in dealing with Amazon. It is very disappointing and discouraging.
They conveniently claimed a returned used Samsung refrigerator motherboard could not be resold because it was received damaged, but failed to provide any pictures. More than likely, it could not be resold because nobody wanted it. Avoid.

Horrible customer service -- don't waste your time or money here! I can't believe this company can maintain with such horrible reviews and BBB ratings.
Beware - you may have to pay for their mistakes. A small water heater I ordered from Home Essentials required almost double the wattage that is specified on their web site. So it would not work on my wiring. After a long struggle with their customer service, they agreed to take it back, but only if I pay return shipping. This is the policy on their web site, so I have no recourse. It's no surprise that they have a one star rating from the BBB.
