After my initial disappointment due to unstable Android support, I can confirm that this DAC can work flawlessly with Android IF YOU FIND THE RIGHT COMBINATION of smartphone and cable.
The USB playback issues made me replace all my Android gadgets (literally). The change was due anyway, so this pulled the trigger. High quality audio playback is my primary concern, and I kept wondering how other buyers were so happy with the xduoo XD- 05. Recent cheap China smartphones come with upgraded Mediatek CPU architecture, USB type C connector, and Android 6 and 7. So I placed some orders, all low budget China products, and all with the latest USB type C.
One phone caused trouble with USB OTG, and I had to downgrade from Android 7 to Android 6. Another one I had to return since USB OTG was advertised but did not work at all. The others worked out-of-the-box with the XD- 05. I now have several smartphones, phablets and tablets working with the XD- 05. Playback with UAPP is absolutely flawless even for hours. Native Android playback does have some glitches every now and then, but negligible.
I also had to try 4 different USB type OTG cable adapters. Two were working, the other two failed (with any USB OTG device).
All in all, quite a lengthy experience, but the result was worth it.
I bought Xduoo xd- 05 dac/amp on hitenik, and this DAC is lovely. I compared it with my SMSL M8 paired with a Little Dot MK2, and i like this one better.
I bought this little Xduoo XD- 05 thing two times from hitenik, as I really love it. Prices have risen a little since this thing became more popular, but it is still worth the money. The build quality is really solid, it looks good and it feels good. More important it sounds good. It is powerful enough to power a HD600, but I would not go too far beyond that :) I can not describe the sound quality in audiophile words. If you are interested in this you should visit head-fi to read more about the sound of this thing.
Great device! It works flawlessly. The battery works more than 10 hours with USB OTG. You can listen FLAC or MP3 converting directly to "DSD 256".
In PC "foobar2000" works great, all music real time converting to DSD256 format. ONKYO HF PLAYER (have real time DSD converting) app works superb with android OTG. CHARGING time with standart charger 1.5A or 2A nevermind it's a same 5 hours, stop charging after 5 hours. With USB cable in PC usb port charging time 7 hours and device stop charging, all time device is cold. You can use all time, listening and charging device the same time, xudoo xd- 05 is great.
