Scam!
June 9, 2018

It's a scam! Its says I only pay 11 per month. As soon as I checked my account they took $187 off from my account. I was trying to find the contact number, unfortunately, there is none. Don't trust this app. Its a scam!

Dear Santa
June 6, 2018

Dear Santa,

Honestly, Grammary doesn't owe me anything. However, after the years I've used Grammarly and the hours I have spent explaining and displaying how well it works for my college-aged niece (pre-med), I was going to purchase her a subscription. Also, I have described to her how Grammarly had educated me about the little nuances in the English language that I have missed on my own; I was very disappointed when I went to purchase a year subscription for her on her birthday.

Upon signing her up for her subscription, I had to wait because there was a problem with my bank USAA. After years of using Grammarly, I have never been offered a discount, nor have I expected one. Imagine my surprise when she informed me that she had been extended the opportunity to purchase a subscription for 50% off!

After 35 minutes spent on the phone with a banking representative, I discovered my credit card still did not work. Consequently, I told her we would get Grammarly the next day. Unfortunately, the offer expired. I told her not to worry because I would call you and explain, and I felt confident you would offer this discount to me so that I could purchase it.

The response I was received was polite and COMPLETELY unexpected. In short, the answer was an emphatical, "No."

I did not know how to answer or make an excuse for Grammarly after pumping her full of expectations, and I knew you would understand and reoffer the original 50% off. Grammarly is only a money-hungry corporation who has lost its ideal corporate environment and the extended promise of caring for its clients. So, I bought her a book...

I felt embarrassed due to your curt and negative reply, as well as extremely disappointed. I felt just as we all felt when learning there was is no Santa Clause.

I was auto charged a renewal through to February 2019. There is no facility to cancel your subscription, delete you card details (in fact their "new privacy policy" does not even give the option to unsubscribe). Their FAQ ays that even if your card reaches expiration "they work with financial institutions to automatically receive new details with the new expiry date". So basically this is a scam. You cant cancel, cant delete your card details and they just keep auto-renewing. This is in breach of every privacy law in every country. Don't be caught out! AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Love the product and paid for premium service, dislike the layout. There is no page counter. Someone had the brilliant idea of designing this in newspaper file columns, so you can only see a couple paragraphs of your work at once, in the center of your computer? I have four inches of white wasted space to either side of the written work? Space that instead of being blank could have held words so that you could actually see a few pages of your master piece at once!

Inspiration strikes when it strikes, so it you are around say 5,000 plus words and have insight that needs to be inserted earlier in your work what do you do without a page counter? That's right you get to go back paragraph by paragraph and figure out where it needs to go. It's very hard to do especially since you can only see a few paragraphs at once! In the time it takes to find the correct spot your rhythm is undone.

The scroll bar off to the right is super thin and disappears. When you do actually manage to find it your work can scroll up or down, then it's back to hunting where were you even at one stinking paragraph at a time.

How about letting us use way more of our computer screen so that we can stay in the flow and actually write. Also how about a simple button to send grammarly an email instead of those generic questions that are listed under contact us. Even more frustrating since none of the listed questions had anything to do with my current questions.

Spent almost 3 hours writing today and 2 of that was wasted fighting your layout. Super frustrated.

The grammar part however is second to none.

Over priced for what is available. Also dubious accounting, no notification that subscription is about to be renewed and money extracted from account.

Grammarly does pick up on a lot of errors, then totally drops the ball with even something like comma placement. The worst aspect is customer service. After spending 140 bucks for the premium version, you'd think a quick response to the comma issue would be at least polite. It's now going on three days, and every day they jerk me around, I'll write another sparkling review like this one.

I purchased this product to help my son in writing a term paper for school. The product was impossible to use. It froze up in the simplest functions such as correcting a spelling error, and would take 5 minutes to unfreeze. The plagiarism feature was so bad I ended up cutting and pasting sections into google directly. When I tried to contact customer service, the phone number leads to a recording telling you to write an email. After 3 emails and no response, I gave up. Be aware if you try to dispute your purchase with the credit card company, they will tell you to get a letter from another similar company on their letterhead, stating Grammarly should provide a service that works. Don't waste your time or money on this product. Buyer Beware!

I would very much like to use Grammarly, although its check is not particularly good. But with a mac, it simply doesn't work. You have to upload your text to their program, and it doesn't even accept files as big as 10 pages! So you need to upload your text in small pieces and take it back and forth to Grammarly and to docs/word. Expensive and futile.

In my other review I wrote about how much I hated Grammarly and my attempts and failures to free my computer from this virtual VIRUS. Well, I finally succeeded and want to share my method with other sufferers! After I finally realized that (at least in my case) Grammarly was embedded in the OS I was using-- Chrome-- I simply right-clicked on that stupid green Grammarly icon at the right-hand end of the top toolbar and clicked "Remove from Chrome". Voila! No more maddening colored marks all over everything I write. I'm free!

Date of experience: May 2, 2018

In a rash moment I subscribed to the free version of Grammarly because I wanted an answer to one question about grammar. Immediately I was sorry. Its methods are irritating and intrusive, with red and green marks constantly appearing as you write ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING (including as I write this review), often for NO apparent reason. (Why, for example, is the word 'moment', correctly used, underlined in red in this review?) I don't even need it, since I have an excellent command of grammar and prefer to proofread my own writing. BUT I CANNOT GET RID OF IT, even though I have paid no money. I have unsubscribed. I have followed the directions on the website for deleting my free account. Nothing works. Grammarly has apparently embedded itself deep into my computer and is here to stay. Don't let this happen to you.

Okay, so basically, you sign up for the free version and Grammarly pops up everywhere. It was even lighting up red on THIS TEXT! It suggests everything, even what's wrong. It is constantly trying to get you to BUY the premium one. Haha. You should be paid to use the free version! [Grammarly is trying to make me go out of all caps and correcting my spelling of Grammarly). I HATE THIS! Light up this. Light up that. I CANNOT GET RID OF THIS VIRUS!

The suggestions in the premium service are mostly wrong and after you sign up they put you into auto-renew, without any control by you. They are going to get sued for these practices.

My 14-year-old daughter accidentally purchased this program last Sunday. She meant to purchase only one month with the understanding that it was $11.66 a month. She did not need the entire year because she only had one month left in school before summer break began. When she discovered her mistake which was the most 10 minutes later, she canceled the subscription. Unfortunately, Grammarly charged her a one-year subscription and stated her subscription would end on 4/15/19.4/15/19? A year later? We expected to be reimbursed but here we are, 4 days later and no reimbursement. We called the customer service number which took us to a phone tree only to discover no one would answer and it redirected us to the website. My husband sent an email explaining the problem and "NO One" responded. I contacted my bank and advised them of this situation. They submitted this to the fraud department. Grammarly, if you're reading this, you should be ashamed of yourselves. For those who are considering purchasing this program, be aware, as their customer service department is nonexistent. Take heed of the other negative reviews.

Update. Today, 4/19/18, Grammarly sent my daughter an email stating they would refund her in the next 10 business days. I guess banks have more weight on these kinds of matters than I do. We shall wait and see if the money is credited back to her.

I have dyslexia and thought Grammarly would be a good solution but it can't be trusted. It can't understand context at all. So if I type 'to' instead of 'too' it doesn't pick it up. It can do verb and article agreement and stuff like that but nothing more and it often assumes a mistake where there isn't one. Me: "This won't work" - Grammarly: "Shouldn't that be "walk"?" I had a trial of the premium but asked for a refund.

There are tons of website/apps that claim themselves as the world-class grammar-checker tool. But got to admit, there is no other service like Grammarly. Most of the other free services are for limited time, whereas Grammarly's free service for the lifetime [though the features are limited.]

However, the paid service is where Grammarly loses some reputation! The paid service is comparatively expensive than others.

I used the Grammarly premium for a year, and honestly, it did help me a lot with the plagiarism!

P.S. Now, I am free user!
