GOG is a great place to find old games from all the way back to the Windows 95 era in some cases. Some of the games come with converters to work with Win10 as well. They try to take care of their customers.

GoG is mostly just a one-stop-shop for picking up new or classic games, its not a wide platform like Steam with friend integrations or events. Theyre games you buy, download, and can play without the GoG platform, so you keep these games.

It was working so well. But, now i have to take a stand and push back.

As of late, an issue has arisen from GoG about a game called 'Devotion' a game made in Taiwan, had a play on politics relating to the Chinese president. Play on politics is common in video games. From GTA to Saints Row to FarCry and even CoD.

Because of this play on politics, GoG has pulled down this game from their service in ALL REGIONS. Not just Asia, but US and EU. I am severely disappointed in GoG for censoring an ENTIRE GAME that has recived AMAZING score and review, just to keep good buddies with one country.

The controversy actually popped up in February 19,2019, when the game released. Then after a wile, the devs pulled the issue from the game... So, China, is trying to destroy this game developer 'RedCandleGames' for a mention of some political meme.

I thought GoG would be above this. Would be able to region lock at the least. Not pull the game down all across the globe from its platform.

Come on GoG, you where the last pillar. The Chinese Communist Party under TenCent owns some 48% of Epic Games. Steam is just steam. But now, you GoG? I unfortunatly will need to stop my services as i did with Blizzard. I do not wish to support or associate with bigot companies.

P.s. I stand with Hong Kong and Taiwan because of this now. When China stops sticking its fingers where they shouldnt be, ill stop doing the same.

Ethics?
December 16, 2020

I thought GOG was a cut above the rest in terms of ethics. They sell games without DRM and all kinds of other good stuff.
But wow. They bent the knee to China and won't sell Devotion because of a president Xi Winni the Pooh Joke?
Sad to see a good firm bow down to political correctness.
I hope they change their tune.

One of the greatest website out there basically for any good old game you may have in your arsenal or sort of that entirely and possibly anyway. I have ordered tons of games from here and overall extremely happy with everything out there ;)

I made an account with them and then realized I was really ever going to actually use it and I immediately starting getting their emails for deals and this and that. I found it annoying and when I went to unsubscribe from the emails it takes me to some 404 error page and doesn't let me unsubscribe. So then I went to delete my account, and there is no option to do so on the site. So I looked into it and it turns out you actually have to contact customer support and they have to delete it for you? Already I was annoyed that I couldn't just simply delete it like any other site I've used. So I contact them and ask for my account to be deleted and to be taken off the email list. This was on April 1st. I've since had several email replies from them telling me my account will be deleted within 24hours of my confirmation reply which was on april 2nd, my account is still there, and I'm still getting spammy emails. And they "assured" me that my account was deleted, and it's not. I don't know if I'm emailing with the same person or not but one of the emails told me that they did in fact take me off the list, but that scheduled emails had already gone out right before that and that's why I got that email but I shouldn't get any more after that. I'm still getting them. It feels like a trap, and now I'm extremely frustrated because they won't actually let me leave?!

They have pretty much most of the games I played in my early days on pc. This brought me down memory lane and I had a grand time. Best site for classics.

GOG is SO MUCH BETTER THAN STEAM! With GOG you buy the game, YOU OWN THE GAME. Download it, store it on your own hard-drive, burn it to your own DVD-R's, stick it in your cabinet and install it 10 years from now, or 40 years from now. With STEAM, you buy the game, and then you HOPE that STEAM keeps it on their server because otherwise you can NOT play it. With GOG you are buying the game, with STEAM, you are buying "access" to the game on their network, but only for as long as they keep it on their network.

Being able to play any of my GOG games WITHOUT an internet connection is a HUGE reason why I love GOG and I only "tolerate" STEAM for a few games. I travel a lot for work, so when I get stuck at some work site, 40 miles from the nearest town, and then have to wait 2 days for some inspector to show up and sign-off on our work, those 2 days go a LOT faster when I have some GOG games on my laptop to keep me busy. My STEAM games require that I log-into STEAM... NOT gonna happen when I am 40 miles from the nearest internet connection. GOG beats STEAM once again!

And speaking of STEAM's network, every time you play any game on STEAM, they record WHAT you are playing, WHEN you are playing, and HOW LONG you are playing, and every thing you DO in the game. Oh, but people want those "achievements"... yeah, sometimes, but with GOG I have the choice to play through GOG GALAXY and keep track of all those stats and achievements (and more), but I ALSO have the choice to play OFFLINE, so that there is no permanent record that shows I played INDIANA JONES for 200 hours that year, and my wife wants to know WHY I never have time to paint the back desk, and my boss wants to know WHY I won't work more overtime, and OMG look at all the hours this guy wasted on video games! I like that I can keep my gaming time PRIVATE on GOG, by just playing OFFLINE, and NOBODY is keeping track of ANYTHING I do. SO NOBODY can use it against me later!

ALSO with GOG, you often get TONS of EXTRA FEATURES and supplements that you can NOT get on STEAM. GOG often includes the game's complete soundtrack as Mp3 or FLAC or BOTH; you often get artbooks, early concept art images; interviews with creators; additional in-game equipment or perks; PDF versions for manuals and reference guides, and Strategy Guides ---- and TONS of stuff you usually do NOT get when you buy the EXACT SAME game through STEAM.

ALSO with GOG, you get TONS of free games, and some high-priced premium games are handed out for FREE several times each year for various promotions. I've got several $40 games that I NEVER would have purchased, but since they showed up on a FREE promotional give-away, I decided I'd give them a try.

I have tons of games on GOG, and only about 7 on STEAM, because the ONLY reason to buy from STEAM is if that particular game is NOT available on GOG.

I had no issues with any part of obtaining the original Diablo. Works just as intended despite my concerns after reading some reviews. For the amount of money it cost, I had to see for myself, as people tend to want to spread the bad news more than the good.
I am a PC tech, and found everything to work quite well! It is much appreciated to be able to play these older games on our newer devices.

*Disclaimer, I have not used GOG is almost a year, so I am not giving a full 5 star review, I will update my review when I've checked my account again this week.*

I've placed multiple orders with GOG and had no issues with downloads or getting any of the DRM free games to work on my computer. I've been running a windows 8 / windows 10 computer and all of the games I've ordered have downloaded and played without a hitch. I do have some games I have not yet attempted to install that are part of their 'free' games on gog.

One thing I did notice was that some games (Like starwars battlegrounds) do show that they're still multiplayer capable, however the servers for that game were shut down by the origin company. So while that was at one time an online game it no longer has multiplayer support. I think with games like that they should update the site to show the game lost it's multiplayer options so anyone looking to purchase those games won't assume there are servers for them still. So while prices and games have been great so far for me, I know that some things like online games still need a bit of research before purchasing since things that start off 'single or multiplayer' can sometimes change to single player only and gog hasn't kept up.

I am using them for years. Tremendous job is done to make old games running originally on dos, windows 95 or 98 on win 7 and 10. You do not need to stay online to play. And their special offers are really great.
Recommend it strongly

Awesome!
November 14, 2018

gog.com is great because you can play the games you bought without any drm and no internet connection, something other game platforms don't always have. Its great because there are plenty of options of both old and new games with easy installation and no issues in the future.

Not just for old games
November 11, 2018

Great site to look for old games fixed up to run on more modern machines, but it also sells newer games as well, sometimes even with discounts. Special promotions are also pretty common. The games I buy always work well, the installer is simple and easy to use and there is no annoying DRM.

Worst customer service on the planet. I had an order ready, tried to create an account, but they said there were "forbidden characters" in my email address. They said there wasn't any such problem, so I sent them a screen shot. They ignored me after that and flat out refused to help.

Unfortunately, it's back to Steam for me!

GOG claim to have a money back guarantee. That's a complete lie.

I purchased starwars galactic battlegrounds. Multiplayer does not work. To this day, the product page clearly shows single player and multiplayer support. I have a photo attached below with proof of this.

GOG blindly claim that they do not advertise multiplayer support, and denied my refund on that basis. I persisted and showed them proof, and they wouldn't budge. What a bunch of scumbags.

Great
January 19, 2018

Great site buy a game and get all versions they have for every OS not just one. Dont have to be locked into a front end ui like steam to play your games but if that is your thing they also have their own front end.The frontend required for auto updating otherwise if you look in your library they tell you if there is a new updated version of a game for you to download for your master back up. Otherwise any time you download the games image it is the most up to date version at that time. Download and copy your games installer to any format you wish. Cd, DvD, Flash etc etc.No drm slowing your or locking you out of your game etc.

Cheap Old Games
December 11, 2017

Best place if you're a fan of "classic" games - I used to download them illegaly from torrents and risk getting viruses only because there was no other reliable source for getting those games... with GOG its as simple as few clicks - and there are hardly every any hardware issues (important for games which are 15+ years old)

* They say GoG Galaxy install isn't required to play games but it IS required to update many of them. VERY deceptive. Speaking of updates, GoG takes WEEKS to get out updates that Steam has on the day their released. Updates are also not easily located on the site - I initially had to use Google to find that section.
* Customer service ranges from indifferent to hostile. I honestly can't put it any clearer than that.
* Their apparently owned by CD-Projekt, the makers of the Witcher series. I've literally heard nothing bad about that outfit so it makes the problems that GoG exhibits all the more confounding.
* I've had several GoG-ified old games refuse to install on Windows 7 or exhibit serious issues. Found plenty of posts from other users with same problems and nothing but cut-and-paste advice from mods (not even actual support people).
* One of GoG's selling points is that they don't have DRM in their games, and that's technically correct. However, some games will NOT provide full functionality unless you're running GoG Galaxy. Even worse, when you try to get support for games the reps will sometimes conveniently be unable to find your account details and say you pirated the game. When they did this to me I told them to Google my name so they could find out about the legal firm I work for. This resulted in a quick change of attitude and a full refund, but those without leverage would probably be screwed. The best advice I can give about GoG was given to me by an online acquaintance: If you want to try the GoG release of a game, pirate it first and make sure it works correctly. THEN buy it from them. The whole DRM-free concept is wonderful but the company behind it really needs to clean up its act. In truth most of us wouldn't mind a very basic DRM scheme like a simple one-time activation if it helped GoG to become a better and more trustworthy company. I really wish they were based somewhere like Germany or Canada, too. Call me prejudiced but I have trouble trusting companies based in places that are inherently shifty.

I will never again purchase a game from GoG.com.
They don't care about their customers all they want is your money, thats how i feel. I purchased in total of 3 games and one of them had higher specs required. I notice 30 days money back on the game so i decided to test it on low settings, never worked so after 1 hour of trying to make it work, I uninstall the game and contact GOG support for a refund, Yea that didn't happen because i downloaded the game... question how do you install it or test the game? It downloads automatically so their 30 days money back is a lie.
I sent them my computer specs. You dont have to be an IT guy to notice the graphic hardware was the issue, so all I get and forced to accept is a refund in my GoG wallet. Nice

This video-game download co. located in Cyprus (the country) ASSUMED that I downloaded the game after I reported to them that I experienced a broken link and their websites directions were contradicting themselves too many times. So guess what, NO REFUND. Really?? You have to ASSUME that somebody downloaded your digital content when we have had the technology to PROVE how much bandwidth was taken from you site since 1997!!! REALLY??? Don't give any these pirates American business. They will copy and paste a declaration to you rationalizing how they can keep your money. They DO NOT have to operate under U.S. law. BEWARE!!!

I'm really not happy with customer service. I just accidentally purchased a game from them that wasn't compatible with my OS. I contacted customer service just ten minutes after I purchased the game. They refused to refund me my money, after I have previously purchased games from them before. I thought that this was much poorer service than I would have received from a competitor like Amazon. I will no longer be doing business with GoG.
