Self checkout
December 19, 2022

Giant Eagles prices are extremely high and the self check out and customer service is bad especially in the Harvest plaza on Waterloo Rd in Akron.

I and others I've seen pick up the paper bags and the handles tear; bag falls. AND i understand some giant eagle's are charging for those bags! I like the meat because it's fresh but with these prices, I can't see paying for bags that don't hold up til you get out of the store. Kroger's parking lots are always full. Prices are lower and bags are plastic. Look at your competition!

Self check out
October 31, 2022

Your self check out is hardly a convenience. Everytime I go through it a shift manager has to come over so I can complete my transaction cause your system is so flawed. I never seem to have this problem at Walmart, Dollar General, Kroger or any other place I do self checkout. It's more of an inconvenience than a convenience.

Waiting
October 21, 2022

I went to Giant Eagle in Washington Pa for vaccines. Their were no signs and so i stood in the pick up line for 15 minutes just to find out i needed to be in the drop-off line. Waited there another 10 minutes and was told it would be 30 to 45 minutes. This is unacceptable. I can understand if they are busy but i could have cut my time in half if i would have been directed to the proper line. So, off to Rite Aide i go! I have already stopped shopping here except for a quick stop because the prices are so high but i guess the money i spent in overpricing i can spend a little of that and make the extra 3 mile trip to Shop-n-Save.

Very Very Bad People
October 17, 2022

I have been in the consumer rating business for many years and never seen it as bad as this before. Giant Eagle has been on the forefront of everything from racial profiling to falsely accusing shoppers of shoplifting. Further, The stores take no responsibility for alcohol consumption in their stores. If you have been a victim of such, contact a lawyer.

Curbside service is awful
September 23, 2022

I'm not sure if the curbside shoppers deliberately sell me bad food, or they just don't know how to shop, but I'm leaning toward the former. The latest example (and probably why I will not shop there again), I ordered salmon, about 2.5 lbs of it. When I got it home I could tell something was wrong. I opened the package and the horrible smell nearly made me vomit, plus the fish was covered in slime. I returned it and warned the clerk not to open the bag because the smell was so foul. I got a refund, then, since I had to come in to return the spoiled seafood, I decided to see if I could find some different salmon that wasn't slimy or smelled rotten (to be honest I didn't think I was going to). When I looked at the salmon in the seafood department, I noticed that they had perfectly good salmon packaged on the shelf. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that it was the EXACT same kind the curbside shopper sold me - except it wasn't spoiled. I could tell because it didn't look slimy and didn't smell awful (yes, even through the package - if it stinks in the package, DON'T BUY OR EAT IT). If I would have fed that fish to my family we would have ended up in the ER, and that is why I am so angry. This kind of negligence or malice could literally kill someone. I was literally in shock that they would take such a risk just because they don't like doing their jobs, or they don't like the customers that order curbside - for whatever reason - it's apparent by the service they provide. They sold me the salmon that was meant for the garbage, no joke. I wish I would have taken a photo of it before I returned it, though I'm not sure if it would be apparent from a photo that the fish was bad. All I can offer is proof that I returned it and proof that I bought more of the same, unspoiled salmon. I'm just trying to warn people before something bad happens.

Gift Card Scam
July 18, 2022

I purchased 3- $100 gift cards via the Giant Eagle App. One gift card was able to be redeemed on fuel, the other two continuously were said to have a zero balance even though they had never been used. Accordingly to the app, my cards had $100, but when I went to use them the cashier told me that they were of a zero balance. I fought over the phone and through email for 2 weeks, when I asked for a refund. I got an email stating that all sales were final even though it was just a glitch in the system. There is no answer over the weekend, so when I get ready to start the fight again on Monday, I check my $100 cards and showing on my app one has a balance of $0 and the other has a balance of $2.28. I have not been able to use them, so I automatically open my bank account because I thought that I received the refund, but nothing. So I am out $200, no refund and my cards have been mysteriously used. Customer service transfers my calls around and it seems as though nobody can explain my transactions or what could have happened. A multibillion dollar company has scammed a consumer out of $200...

I received an e-mail that convinced me that Giant Eagle is not sorry for the racism committed against African Americans in your stores. Maybe Pittsburgh City Council can wake you up.

I have been a customer of Giant Eagle for about 40 years but the last eight years it has been strained. Chris Soult from the Commission on Human Relations said that he has sent three subpoenas to Giant Eagle since July 2021 concerning racial profiling of African American customers at store #3064 Baum Boulevard and blocking the Morewood avenue entrance at night when there are too many African American customers in the store at night. Why is Giant Eagle pretending to care about their employees or customers when they refuse to have a sit down on how they threat us.

Poor customer service
October 2, 2021

Don't shop in Brooklyn ohio store especially when buying a sub sandwich. They run out of stuff and are not "authorized" to go replenish an item to make the customer happy. Don't deserve even 1 star for that area. Close it down! It was 445 pm today and the sub sandwich area was not closing or anything I see lazy employees! The store is in Brooklyn ohio. The store manager Brandon did nothing!

Working for curbside sucked. Management was okay in the beginning then it slowly deteriorated, into a $#*! show of laziness coming from the higher ups. When we first started curbside we called customers after their orders were shopped to go over substitutions and out of stocks. Most customers were really nice and then there were some that you just lose faith in humanity from. If I got a dollar for every entitled customer I had to shop for I'd probably be as rich as Jeff Bezos. Especially the old ones, to think they have nothing better to do than be rude on the phone and then start crying if we're out of stock on something. Now, after months of working, somebody in corporate had this grand idea of letting the customers text the shoppers while their orders are being shopped. At first, it was alright, but it progressively got worse along the way. To the point when the customers would just straight up insult the shoppers. Now if they didn't want something substituted or out of stocked then don't $#*! and come shop your damn groceries yourself and $#*! all that "but COVID" bull$#*! because most of these people are the same ones that don't wear a mask in public and are just using COVID an excuse to be lazy and be an $#*! to people that shop their groceries. $#*! Giant Eagle, the store lead is a creep too. If y'all know what store this is then you know what goes on there. I would give no stars but a minimum of one star is needed

Employee Hygiene
July 7, 2021

I feel that Giant Eagle store location 3663 needs to do something about one of they're employee by the name Joshua Smith and his hygiene. He has a horrible distinctive odor CONSTANTLY coming from his body not to mention his hair grooming is horrible as well. His hair looks like it hasn't been washed out combed in MONTHS. I won't visit this location till this situation is taken care of and there are several other employees that have noticed his horrible hygiene and well. I suggest that customers avoid this location as long as this individual is working here.

Meat department
June 2, 2021

I shop frequently at the Painsville OH location. The butchers are LAZY! They never want to cut the meat that's available. I went today 6-2-2021, asked for short ribs. The 3 associates who weren't busy but socializing, didn't want to cut the meat at 5:00pm and asked me did I want an order. I wanted 2.5lbs
Very disappointing. I guess Heinen's will be my home store. Unbelievable. Hope the conversation the 3 associates had was very good.

I was almost attacked by the store manager in Vermilion Ohio she came running out from behind the manager counter and screamed put a mask on, which I was putting on as she came running at me, she is very lucky I didn't clock her, will never go to that store again, switching all my prescriptions to have my insurance company mail them to me, they have the worst costumer service I have ever seen.

When someone calmly goes to customer service to clarify a display sign promoting buying three cokes and getting two free and is rudely informed she's wrong in spite of the signage and then is told, "I'm done with you!," in front of other employees and customers, you cant get any lower. I hate to think this is representative of the culture at Giant Eagle because if it is, I'll be writing about this in articles I ghostwrite for a large client in New York. Some of my articles are about CX (customer experience) and leadership. Besides customers who witnessed this spectacle, talk with Sue who was the only employee there who displayed any empathy. She's aware of the conversation.

Money Orders
April 8, 2021

Every time I go to Giant Eagle I find another reason why I should not. Now I have to pay cash for money orders:-( No more taking it from my Bank Debit Card. My Bank Card is as good as cash because it won't process it if I don't have money in the bank.
