These people entered in a fake bank account and stole my 2019 taxes, stimulus and is stealing my 2021 stimulus. Do not use the dumb $#*! thieves im about to get the federal government involved asap
I filed with freetaxusa on February 12 2021 I finally got a status change on where's my refund only to find out the sent the deposit on February 24 so where the hell is my money because it never made it to my account. I dont know what to do because you cant call anyone this is ridiculous. Please help!

My return was accepted 02/10/2021, still no refund. Used HR Block for someone else, their return was accepted 02/15/2021, and they already received their refund.
Hello Deborah. We realize it can be frustrating. Generally, individuals receive their refund in 10-21 days. The IRS has indicated it can take longer if an additional review is needed. Thank you for your continued patience as the IRS works through the millions of returns and refunds submitted as they have begun processing in just the last two weeks.
OMG. I've been reading through some of the one-star reviews and they all seem to be written by people who should not be doing their own taxes.
I have a pretty complicated return with a rental property, investments, my wife's unemployment during COVID, credits for energy-saving upgrades, Health Insurance purchased through the Exchange with Premium Assistance, etc. I have always used TurboTax Premium in the past and taxes took me many hours to do.
This year I stumbled across an ad for FreeTaxUSA and it said I could do my taxes and efile for free even if I had rental property and other complex issues. I decided to give it a try. First, it allowed me to import my TurboTax file from last year, which sped up the process. It took me less than a third of the time to do my taxes compared to TurboTax. Yes, you have to pay $12.95 to complete and efile your state return, but TurboTax charges more than double that just to efile your state return. I've always chosen to print out and mail the state return instead. So $12.99 is a bargain. And the version of TurboTax that I was forced to buy because we own a rental property was $70. FreeTaxUSA is free.
I will be using this service from now on.
Hi Robert! Thank you so much for your kind review. We love hearing great feedback from those that found the software easy to use. We are happy you found us!
I tried turbotax last year and they wind up taking almost all my refund by charging more than my refund. It took 3 months to get my refund from irs through turbotax which I give 0 + stars, Bad Place. I tried Freetaxusa this year and it didn't cost me a dime and they helped me get a awesome refund back without any lies or hassles unlike turbotax who says that my stimulus check will be on my card ( Never showed up on the card). So yeah Freetaxusa is the only way to go. THANK YOU FREETAXUSA.
Hi Sherri! Thank you for your review. We're so glad you found us and are happy to help you maximize your refund in a cost-friendly way!
FreeTaxUSA uses their bank account routing number on your return. No heads up. So, you whole return goes to them instead of you. Therefore, your future stimulus or other payments go to the routing number that the IRS has on hand. No phone number means "SCUMBAG" outfit. Stay away from these $#*!s.
Hi Scott, if you used your federal refund to pay our fees, there was an IRS error that affected the deposit of your second Economic Impact Payment (EIP) or stimulus. The IRS and our banking partners were able to find a resolution and most of our customers received deposits within the last few days. If you did not receive a deposit, it’s because your EIP was returned to the IRS. The IRS announced January 11th, that they will reissue missed economic payments and we anticipate that those affected by the IRS deposit error will receive their EIPs then. If you would like more information, we'd be happy to help. Please sign in to your account and click the "Contact Support" link.
I have not received my 2019 tax return yet! It's January 2021 and they told me I could receive my stimulus in a rebate!
Hi Mariana! If you haven't received your 2019 refund yet, please contact the IRS directly by calling 1-800-829-1040 or you can reach out to your local IRS office. To find their information, please go to https://www.irs.gov/help/contact-your-local-irs-office.
If you haven't received either of your Economic Impact Payments (EIP), also known as stimulus payments, you can claim it on your 2020 tax return as a Recovery Rebate Credit.
Fast free and easy. I've used this place for a few years and I will say that I've not had an issue with any aspect of this site. I started using FreetaxUSA when my brick and mortar tax preparer didn't send my return and I didn't receive my refund until September. Last year, I had it by February 15th. This place is so free that I upgraded this year just so I wouldn't feel like I'm stealing.
Hello David! Thank you so much for your review. We appreciate your continued business and look forward to helping you file your returns in the future!
I saw pretty much from the start that filing my state taxes would be $14.99 and I happily paid the extra $6.99 for the deluxe/audit assist option. Not only was this the first time in several years that I've had to file taxes, but it was the first time I had to file as a self employed translator. I expected the whole process to be a nightmare, and frankly, it was until I found this site. I was reading up on what forms I needed to file as a freelancer and was getting frustrated. I saw an ad for FreeTaxUSA and thought I'd just take a look. Glad I did. It was easy to report my income and business expenses, and a huge weight off my shoulders finding a tax filing site that doesn't charge a ton and knowing that doing my taxes next year will be a relatively simple task. I was dreading filing my taxes, but FreeTaxUSA was a great find and a huge help. I really can't stress enough what a comfort it is to have this done and know that someone can help me if any issues do arise.
Hi Trudy! We're so happy you found us and look forward to helping you file your returns in the future!
This has been the most upsetting situation. I e-filed my taxes with FreeTaxUSA, received a confirmation email stating that the tax and amended tax was accepted. Both was charged on my debit card but neither got to the IRS. I have a brain injured husband that I've been taking care of for 17 years and I always have to mail in an injured spouse claim after filing taxes electronically, which I did this year. The IRS received the injured spouse claim I mailed in but never received my 2019 taxes which where electronically filed, so when my husband would have received the stimulus check he didn't, it went to child support because the injured spouse form could not be considered because they didn't received the 1040 form which I e-filed thru you all. I am very upset and disgusted. We are still trying to fix this issue and I am sick. You all have cost my home a financial hardship. DISAPPOINTMENT IS NOT EVEN THE WORD FOR WHAT I AM FEELING!

Please log in to your account and click the Support option located at the top of the screen. You can also email us at [email protected]. If you feel our Customer Support did not assist you, could you please private message me the email address on your account? I would be happy to follow-up on this.
Just like many others my taxes were rejected so my taxes could not be completed on time. Now I have to pay a real CPA to fix what ever is going on and they are giving me the run around A rejection means they did not do their job, this should trigger and auto refund. I will be contacting my Bank and I already contacted the BBB. I thought it was a simple mistake on their end but I am believing what others are posting this company is a scam. If I receive my refund I will update this. UPDATED: I did receive a full refund.
Hi C D, I’m sorry to hear that your return was rejected. The IRS system has various checks in place to make sure your return is filed correctly, so if your return was rejected, it means that something on the return might be incorrect. We do have a support team that can help troubleshoot your rejection, but if you decided to file your return elsewhere, we would be happy to issue a refund. Can you please sign in to your account and click the “Contact Support” link?
In 2019, after filing 2018 tax return, FreetaxUSA double charged my credit card. 2 charges for $15.89 for one return in Pa. I disputed the charge... rightfully so. One charge for $15.89 was retuned. Problem resolved or so I believed. Fast forward to filing the 2019 return in the year 2020. After completing the tax return. My credit card and a few other cards of mine were denied. The reason stated was that there was a past issue of payment. I contacted customer support and they stated that their was a "chargeback" which cost them $15.89 plus a $35.00 fee to the credit card company. Therefore they refused to file my return. This was their mistake... not mine. Yet, they retaliated by refusing to file my return. However, they said they would file my return if I agreed to pay them $15.89 PLUS the $35.00 fee the credit card charged them. I was expected to pay them around $50.00 for their mistake. The kicker is they did not let me know this until I attempted to file my return. Subsequently, I missed the filing deadline and will be charged late filing penalties and interest... for THEIR mistake. Don't think so. Adios FreetaxUSA. I will not be responsible for YOUR mistakes. There are MANY MANY better options in my opinion.
Hi Ann, I'm very sorry for the frustration and would like to make this right. Can you private message your email address on sitejabber?
I have tried and failed to log in several times, with verification codes, etc. to log in and access my account. Have contacted them with no answer. I am about to have my bank cancel their charge to my credit card. Nobody messes with me.
Hello G. L.! I am sorry that you are having trouble logging into your account. I know that can be very frustrating and we would love to help you resolve this issue. Customer Support replies to messages within 24 hours but typically respond much faster. I would suggest you check your spam folder to see if our reply was caught there. If you are unable to find a reply can you private message your email address through SiteJabber?
Minutes after I was notified my return was rejected because my SSN was already used I was called and put through threats from DEA and IRS for? Charges of money laundering etc. and my acccounts were being witheld from banks etc. funny because afte freetax informs me of IRS return I was SCAMED? All I can say is be careful of a good thing.
Hello Ronald! We apologize for any frustration you have experienced. We would be happy to look in to this for you. Did you enter in any information on the IRS website regarding payment information for the Economic Impact Payment? Please email customer support at [email protected]. We assure you that our company takes your security very seriously! The IRS will typically send you a notice in the mail if there is a problem with your return, they generally will not call. The following IRS fraud link can be helpful as well: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-warns-of-new-phone-scam-using-taxpayer-advocate-service-numbers
I filed my taxes back in April and they were rejected... fixed the error and refiled. My return was accepted and here I am almost 2 months later with no stimulus payment nor my refund. I sent in 8 emails and got a reply from Zendesk in India with some nonsense reply. I asked for a manager to email me and she told me she
She's been working for the IRS for 20 years and once it's accepted it's no longer her issue contact the IRS. She then went deep into my private file and told me that she saw didn't care if I reported them to the BBB because she's confident in her company and her 20 years at the IRS... this company is run by the government or good" friends" of the IRS. They track what you submit even though I did my own taxes they spy on you. And have all of your information. I seriously hate this company use h & r block instead they have real CPA and an accuracy filter guarantee. Online scam business. Government bullies
Hello Bebe! I really apologize that you have not received your refund or your stimulus payment yet. Are you sure that the emails you sent in were to our customer service? We are not affiliated with or use Zendesk, so I am worried that you spoke with someone other than our company. To contact our customer support, please send an email to [email protected]. Please keep in mind that once your return is accepted, the IRS does not give our company any information about your refund. Additionally, we are not involved in the distribution of economic impact or stimulus payments. You would have to contact the IRS directly for information about those. It’s possible that there has been a delay in the processing of your refund and your economic impact payment because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Again, if you have questions or concerns about your return, we are always happy to help. Please send an email to [email protected].
Tax person got Covid, went to a second person and those taxes would have sent me to jail. Decide to do them myself, yeah like 13hours. In between the IRS website and FreeTax customer service, I was able to muster through. I also learned alot. I do respect Tax people, because its cumbersome detailed work. If a person has stocks, you also have the option of "summarizing (totaling 1099-B)" so you don't have to list each and every stock since there's no import as of yet. Overall, I was pleased with site and the expediency of their knowledgable, detailed customer service. Will be using them next year. Because the tax people ala-cart you on the forms, you save quite a few bucks. I needed Sch- C, D, 1,8949 and State. 14.99, can't beat that, easily would have cost me 450.00. I won!
Hello Kez! Thank you so much for the review of our software. We are glad that you found our site and that we were able to help you to prepare your returns and save you money! We look forward to helping you again next year!
The company advertises "File advanced and simple federal taxes for free". Might be great for simple returns but definitely not for advanced: it cannot import information from brokers. That makes it totally useless if you trade stocks and get dividends: try to enter all this info by hand. Better spend $100 and save many hours. Also, because it's only online app - you cannot use it for modeling your taxes: how much to withdraw from retirement accounts, what to sell, etc.
Hello Vlad! Our website can currently file returns with most investment scenarios but we do not have the capability to import stock transactions from a third party. We are always looking for ways to improve the software and appreciate your feedback. If you have more questions about what our website does or does not support, please contact a member of our support team by signing in to your account and clicking the "Contact Support" link.
I went through the whole process this year with both TurboTax and FreeTaxUSA to see the difference. Turbo tax is easier to understand for the most part, and found me about $60 more to deduct, but since I'm self employeed and operate in several different states the tax prep fee was almost $300. FreeTaxUSA takes a bit of careful reading, but ended up at almost the same result and the tax prep fee was around $50, even with the add-on for amendments just in case. Worth it for me. If I get audited or something I'll update this, but right now this seems like a good deal.
Thank you for the review of the software. We appreciate your loyalty and we value your feedback. We hope to continue to earn your business for many years to come.
Used their services for filing income taxes for federal and state. I used the website every year for about 6 years. Was good and easy for me.
The problem arose when I filed for 2019 1040 forms at the end of January. I filled out the forms, as usual, and got the amount that was due back to me. I entered my debit account information to pay for the service, as usual. Everything done with, I thought. Over 2 months later, I received emails (3) stating I owed $14 for services and it would be deducted from my bank account. I kept sending messages saying it was done in January and received my return in 2 weeks time.
The company and the employees who run the business of accounting should have the info at their fingertips and the tools to use them. A few minutes to fix, but lack the initiative.

Answer: Hi Janet, sorry for any confusion. The $12.95 fee is for state tax return preparation whether the tax return is e-filed or printed and mailed. In regard to your difficulty paying. When you make a debit or credit card purchase online, the card processor checks with your bank or credit card issuer to first make sure you have enough available credit to complete the purchase. The card processor then makes sure the other information you input (for instance, your address) matches what your bank has on record. If all is well, the transaction is processed. If not, such as an address that doesnt match, then the transaction is declined. If you were having difficulty with each card, I would recommend double checking the billing information you entered on FreeTaxUSA. If thats all correct, I would contact your bank and make sure the information they have on file is up-to-date. If youre ever having trouble while using our site, you can click on the Contact Support link or email our customer support team at [email protected] and a support team member will be happy to assist you.
Answer: Hi Theresa! If you have not submitted your taxes and need to make changes, you can use the tabs near the top of the screen (Personal, Income, Deductions/Credits, etc.) to navigate to the area you want to make changes. If you've already filed, you'll need to amend your taxes in order to make changes. Our support agents would be happy to give more information for either case. You can contact them by selecting "Support" in your account.
Answer: Hi Mahlon, we are happy to help you with your questions. I'm sorry but we do not have phone support at this time. If you need some help you can contact us at [email protected]
Answer: Hi Byron, thank you for reaching out. We are sorry to hear of the frustrations you are experiencing. Once the state return has been paid for and the return is finalized the returns are available for you to print. Would you please sign into your account and select to contact Support. This will allow us to assist you best.
Answer: Hi Peter. Thank you for your question. FreeTaxUSA is unable to mail your return for you. However, if you choose to mail your return on the Filing Method screen found under the Filing menu, our software will tell you how/where to mail your return. You can print a copy of your federal tax return for free on the Check Status/Print Tax Return screen also found under the Filing menu. If you don't have a printer and would like to order a printed copy, you can do that on the Order Products and Services screen found in the same menu.
Answer: Hi, Sean! That's a great question. Our software is entirely browser-based, so it will be compatible with any operating system running a major browser. This includes Chrome, Edge, Safari, iOS, and Firefox.
Answer: Hello Linda. I am sorry you have not yet received your tax refund. The IRS typically issues the refund in about 21 days. However, this is just an average and not a rule. Please check the status of your Federal refund at www.irs.gov/refunds. Your state will also have a similar site where you can check the status of your refund. If you have any questions after you have checked the status of your refunds, please sign into your FreeTaxUSA account and click on the Contact Support menu option.
Answer: Hello Shannon! Yes, you can prepare both your 2021 and 2022 taxes using our software, but you will enter each year's information separately in each year's software. Current year taxes can be e-filed, and prior year taxes will need to be mailed. There is no charge for e-filing, but we do have additional products available (such as State Tax Returns) for an additional cost. Our support agents would be happy to answer any additional questions at [email protected].
