I paid $13,000 USD for Motley Fool's premium "One" service, lured in by aggressive marketing emails promising elite investment recommendations and millionaire-level returns. I followed their advice closely and ended up losing over $100,000. Worse, when I contacted them to request a refund, they ignored all my messages. I filed a report with the FTC (Case #*******) and plan to escalate further through the Better Business Bureau and other legal routes. The service was misleading, underdelivered, and completely lacking in support or accountability. Stay away — especially if you're an international customer. They promise the world, take your money, and disappear.
I tried a one year subscription for ~$150 and found their research to be average at best, so i stopped wasting time with them. Unfortunately, they auto-renewed my subscription at ~$210 despite the fact that their is no way for me to turn off the auto renew option on their portal (neither the 'Account' or 'Manage Membership' pages have any option to turn of auto renew). Spare yourself the time and headache of this mediocre service.

Not impressed
Four years ago I thought I would do some investing but due to my lack of experience I decided to look into Motley Fools. It has not worked out well. They are great marketers, but oversell and exaggerate their results. I followed their formula - at least 20 of their picks, held for at least three years and now I'm down 22% overall. Not a single pick of theirs is worth more than when I bought it. On the other hand the stocks I picked on my own are up over 30%. Granted they are boring picks (Apple, Amazon,Netflix, Uber, etc) but much better performers than Teledoc, Zoom, Fiver, W, BL, CPNG, and many others that were touted by
Motley Fools and promptly tanked. I learned my lesson and are going to sell their poor performers. Think twice about signing up with them
The basic service is not what it was a few years ago. It would seem to me all you get is a basic outline of the stock you could get anywhere, nothing I searched had any recommendations. It would seem that the basic membership has become just a tool to up sell you to a much more expensive service! I had set up a stock portfolio for long term and had not invested of a few years, but kept up the Fool membership as I planned to invest again later and now is that time, the only thing left on the Fool profile was my credit card number!
Their platform promises attractive returns, but it's all smoke and mirrors.
I strongly advise against getting involved with The Motley Fool, as my experience suggests they are operating as a scam. Be cautious, as engaging with them could lead to financial loss and other negative outcomes. I was able to recover my money, but it was only possible through external assistance. (I used their website URL as my display name and profile picture on this review in case anyone needs help or wants to reach out for support).
Note: Due to the strict policy here, I'm sharing this purely to help others recover their funds.
Their "stock advisor" has the worst stock picks. The overall market has been up, but all of the stocks I bought through their advisor are all down close to 90%... all of them. I can't even get out because I'd lose too much. So I'm stuck on the sidelines in these dog stock picks, while everyone else is making money. Don't do it.
Thank you for your feedback. There isn't a financial publisher, The Motley Fool included, that can promise that a recommended stock will not encounter market fluctuations. Investments are inherently a risk, and the market will fluctuate. When we recommend a stock in any subscription or strategy, we are doing so with the intention of holding that stock for 5 years, minimum. As long-term investors, we recognize that stock prices will fluctuate. That being said, we won’t always recommend a sell just because the stock price drops. We prefer to hold stocks in companies that we are confident in for the long term.

Once signed up for premium services, you will begin getting requests to upgrade your service for the good stuff. You will not readily find any cancel subscription links. I had to google directions on how to cancel this worthless service. Do not give them your money!

The owners of Motley Fool just sell subscriptions and they know that 85% of Americans can't even get a hold of a grand right now so they've shifted to going after folks that have a ton of money invested elsewhere and they're trying to convince them to shift over to Motley Fool! All of their tax burden advice etc. you can find anywhere online! All they do is sell stock pick advice which well trained chimps can do! Once you buy a subscription for $99, after 30 days, they will continue pounding you with sales calls and e-mails to get you to make an even bigger mistake and pay $2500 just for stock advice! If you invest with them the only one who is the fool is you! Besides we're about ready to go through a massive correction cycle! If you're smart you'll run to cash….not these clowns!

When I signed up for their service they were heavily promoting CFLT as a stock to buy. I bought it at $65.00 a share and sold it 15 months later for $24.10. It was not a good recommendation.
We're sorry to hear you've been disappointed in the performance of that one stock. If you'll review our investing philosophy, https://www.fool.com/about/investing-philosophy/ you'll see that we encourage our members to buy at least 25 stocks that they plan on holding for a minimum of 5 years. We believe this is the best way to counteract the whims of the market.

Automatic renewal is concealed, no notice given, and no receipt provided. Unacceptable for a $299 billing.
We're sorry to hear you were disappointed by your experience. The order page explains that your subscription will automatically renew at the then current price. Additionally, you can find your renewal date on your account page.
Upon purchase of any one subscription, the automatic renewal feature is turned on. Your subscription will automatically renew at the then-current rate until you notify us of your decision to terminate your membership. For subscription terms greater than three months, we will email you about the length and price of your renewal before we charge you. The terms and conditions set the boundaries and nature of our relationship; these were agreed to at the time of purchase.
I believe I was able to find your account - if your service renewed on June 3,2023, you received a copy of your receipt (Subject line: Your receipt from The Motley Fool) on June 3,2023. Your renewal notices were sent on the following dates:
Mon May 15,2023 Action Required! A quick reminder about your renewal
Wed Apr 19,2023 Action Required: Claim your renewal discount today!
These emails explained that your Rule Breakers membership was set to renew for one year at $299. They also said that if you do not take advantage of the early renewal discount, your subscription will automatically renew. Unfortunately, as you are far outside of the 30-day, money-back guarantee, we are unable to issue a refund.

I've lost 57% of my portfolio thanks to their picks. I recommend you NEVER EVER use Motley Fool. In fact I purchased all 7 of their recommendations at their highest value meaning since the purchase date my portfolio has never been higher than the original value. Total trash!

I lost half of my account because of my trust in motley fool. I should've know better than to blindly listen to these yahoos. Every week they give buys and they are really the worst timed, worst suggestions that I've encountered. I listened to their pod casts and read all their articles. Thet just want your membership. The catch is, the subscriber is the fool! Do not waste your money. Afterwards, I did much better just putting all my money in the SPY.

One of the principal tenets here at The Motley Fool is that the best person to handle your finances is you. Although we provide research behind our recommendations, we encourage our members to do their own research as well. It is our firm belief that it serves every investor's best interest to encounter and consider opposing viewpoints.

I have subscribed to 3 MF services over the last 6 to 7 years. They tout their huge wins time and time again, while neglecting to mention any of their losses. I have also determined that their "buy" recommendations come regardless of the stocks current price wrt value. This causes you to jump in at some of the worst times. As it stands the biggest losers in my portfolio are MF recommendations, while I wait the obligatory 5 years for the uptick.

To All Concerned Consumers,
I wish to bring to your attention a concerning incident that has highlighted the deceptive tactics employed by Motley Fool, a company that seems to have little regard for the welfare of its customers. Drawing from my own recent experience with Motley Fool, I find alarming similarities to a recent case involving Warrior Trading. It is crucial that fellow consumers exercise caution when dealing with Motley Fool.
My name is Omar AL-Hajaya, and I reside in Jordan. I approached Motley Fool with optimism, willing to invest $13,000 in exchange for their promised services. However, my interactions with the company have unveiled a series of distressing issues:
1. **Deceptive Marketing and Unfulfilled Promises**: Similar to the concerns raised in the Warrior Trading case, Motley Fool's marketing materials and claims were grossly misleading. The assurances provided by the company were far from accurate, resulting in financial loss and immense disappointment.
2. **Breach of Contractual Commitments**: Much like the allegations against Warrior Trading, Motley Fool failed to deliver on the commitments outlined in our contract. The services I expected and paid for were not provided, causing significant financial setbacks and emotional distress.
3. **Neglect of Consumer Rights**: Like other consumers affected by Warrior Trading, my rights as a consumer were blatantly disregarded by Motley Fool. We have a right to expect services that match the company's representations. Motley Fool's dismissal of these rights has caused substantial harm.
4. **Resistance to Accountability and Refunds**: Despite my efforts to communicate my concerns and request a refund, Motley Fool has displayed a concerning lack of accountability. This echoes the issues that prompted the Federal Trade Commission to investigate Warrior Trading.
It is concerning to note that Motley Fool appears immune to the impact of reviews or customer feedback. This realization has led me to believe that Motley Fool might be engaging in unscrupulous practices akin to scams.
While Motley Fool's indifference to customer reviews is disheartening, we can still take action. As responsible consumers, we can raise awareness about their deceitful practices and hold them accountable. By uniting, we can illuminate these tactics, safeguard fellow consumers, and put an end to such dishonest behavior.
I urge you to exercise caution when dealing with Motley Fool and to thoroughly research any organization before engaging with them. The similarities between my experience and the Warrior Trading case underscore the need for heightened awareness.
Please share this cautionary alert widely to ensure others are informed. By doing so, we can champion transparency and ethical business practices, ultimately safeguarding the financial security and well-being of consumers.
With concern,
Omar AL-Hajaya

I used their services for over 5 years and lost over three hundred thousands from their recommendations. This is a company made of two brothers: one is purely momentum trader and suggests stocks that are going up and the other one suggests stocks that trade far away from highs. They do not understand what makes a good stock or bad one. Except for those well know stocks like Apple, NVDA, 90% of their recommended stocks are junk and now become penny stocks.

After 2.5 years of use, I don't think the value is there for the users. As well as don't think the process to shut off the auto renew is very good. After working though the process I was not happy with it and would recommend other avoid. Thank you. I have used other similar services and really was not impressed.

Zoom, Invitae Pinterest, all losers since 2020. If I would have held them the recommended 5 years I would have been worse off. When Tom and Dave Gardner were running Motley Fool the recommendations were far better. I lost 10s of $1000s in these terrible stocks. You are better off piggy backing Warren Buffets recommendations, I made my money back on his picks.

The court jester, known as the Fool, could speak the truth to the king and queen without having his head lopped off. The Fools of yore entertained the court with humor that instructed as it amused. More importantly, the Fool was never afraid to question conventional wisdom. In the same way, we aim to speak the truth about money and investing...and to make financial guidance accessible to people of all backgrounds and experience levels.

Answer: They cater to different requirements. The motley Fool One combines them all but I am not sure is open to new members. I just renewed my three year membership that has yielded many times over its cost.
