On the 4th July 2022 the ETB Autocentre at Christchurch Frome replaced the battery on my Honda Civic without power backup to the system causing the radio/cd player to stop working. Fortunately with my vehicle the only problem that is likely to arise is to cause the radio/CD player to stop working, I think. Normally this can be put right by re-entering the anti-theft code into the radio. Unfortunately, although I have the code it cannot be entered, because one of the preset buttons required to enter the code does not function, I have tried many of the usual 'hacks' to correct this, but to no avail. Therefore, the equipment despite working for many years is now a write-off. If you do a search on the internet, Youtube etc., you will find that with newer vehicles if the battery is disconnected without power backup far more serious problems can arise.
I sent messages via the enquiry form on the ETB website for help and received a telephone call saying that they would get back to me, they didn't. Only after contacting them using their email address did I receive a response. Their suggestion was for me to go to a nearby company, which they suggested, to repair the faulty preset button allowing the code to be entered. I was told by the repair company that the cost of this repair, if at all possible, would be very expensive. Therefore I agreed with the repairer that the better alternative would be to replace the radio/CD player.
My mistake... I should have either replaced the battery myself or taken the vehicle to the vehicle's dealership. The latter would probably have been the safest alternative.
A very expensive battery!
