DR Mower / Generac junk! In 2023, my wife wanted an easy to use mower. Knowing the reputation of DR, I spent $12,000 on a DR electric zero turn. Big mistake! It started giving an error message and stopped working so I called tech support. I spoke to multiple support personnel that explained they were not trained in the zero turn and could not help me. They then said nothing was user serviceable and told me I had to take it to Hamilton Equipment to get it worked on (even though I purchased it directly from DR / Generac). It has been in shop 7 weeks! First Hamilton stated they could not get DR service to call them back. Now they state they are waiting on parts. DON'T buy DR / Generac unless you want a lot of pain and not to mow your grass most of the summer! PS: I considered just trading for a gasoline mower. I was offered $500 in trade for the $12,000 mower!
Update: DR / Generac states on their website one may purchase an extended warranty if their factory warranty is still intact. Given the problems I have encountered, I called and stated I wanted to extend the warranty. They stated the extended warranty is not available on that machine! DR / GENERAC JUNK! They won't even warranty their own machine!
Unit delivered a little over a month ago 2nd time to use, the belt came off. C/S walked me through reinstalling it. This is not an easy nor quick task. Out of 5 uses, the belt came off 3 times. This last time, the ( IMO undersized) bolt that holds the idle pulley broke and the pulley was dinged up due to rubbing against the other pulleys. After waiting almost an hour for C/S, they had me go out and disassemble the unit and take pictures of the damage and email to them. Begrudgingly, I did. After they got the pictures they are sending me the parts for me to put together. If this thing falls apart again, and I cant return it under the lemon law, I'll have to sell as a loss. I do not recommend this unit. It's poorly designed and put together. Plus it takes too long to get a human to help you in C/S.
Salesmen are dishonest, and will charge extra, even when extra is declined. Product is_Very_ unreliable. Briggs and Stratton engines should be avoided - Japanese manufacturers are trouble free, forgiving, and reliable.
In the past I owned a power wagon for 25 years before selling it, which was excellent. I also bought a pull behind leaf vac which worked well but was too large and sold it. In fall of 2023 I bought a walk behind leaf vac. Almost immediately the bag tore due to poor design, which they replaced since it was newly bought. There was a recall which required shipping to a local dealer, costing me a pickup charge. One of the wire was cut, again due to poor design, and I ended up paying someone to repair this. The 2 small back tires, which guide steering have leaked since the beginning. I has them filled by a professional tire place yesterday and they are flat again! DR will not do anything. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!
Poor design and quality on EZ dial Dr power grader. I have made them aware of a design problem with the grader. No solutions. Just keep ordering the same poor parts that fail. The grader needs pulled from the market until problem is fixed. The cable has a crimped end that does not work or hold. When you call DR equipment they tell you to buy the same part that fails. This is why American companies fail. Buy our parts its all about profits. Foreign companies fix problems and sell more equipment. Very disappointed to see what this country ships.
Purchased a DR Pro 400 Chipper/Shredder in 2020, a splurge, and hopefully upgrade on a similar item I purchased for about a third of the cost...the Pro 400 supposedly could handle up to 4 inch limbs, honestly, in its best day, it could barely chip 1-2 inch limbs...I bought the trailering package, ignoring reviews that the machine would tip over regardless of the terrain, the pneumatic wheels are small, the machine tipped over so severely (on level ground) that the hitch on the John Deere lawntractor was twisted like a pretzel...I am on my third chipper blade believing the blade was the fault of the lack of chipping prowess, 0 for 3, amazing low hours on the machine because it is so frustrating to use, cleaning it up and am going to donate it to Habitat as I wouldn't want to sell it...DR upgraded the Pro 400 to the Pro420, bigger tires and a better handle, still one blade, if DR was an honorable company(owned by Generac) they would take the machine back and refund, forget about the pricey extra blades and damage to the JD.
What good is having a website "you can order from," if the part number has been changed and nowhere does it tell you the new part number?
This is just unprofessional at best, and just plain stupid.
After a 20-minute wait on hold: "Oh that is one of our older models." Do you get many requests for parts for your NEW models?
I like the equipment, but their service (and attitude when I have spoken to a tech in the past) is not good.
I ordered my first walk behind trimmer more than a year ago. It arrived totally non functional. After that, I waited months and months as you slowly sent the needed items to make it operate piece by piece over the span of months. After finally receiving everything, the replacement is just as useless as the first one. After all that, you were unwilling to immediately offer a refund. No one should ever buy your products again. They're junk and you customer service is even worse.
I've been a Generac Dealer for almost 1 year as of today, 3/11/24. In that time I've learned their generators are complete junk, overpriced, and over-rated. The term "quality control" is not in their vocabulary.
After purchasing a DR spreader and spending an hour assembling it only to find out the electric motor is JUNK, I have confirmed they can't build anything even remotely simple for landscape/gardening equipment either.
I will source another motor for this and not even get involved calling DR Power or Generac. What a waste of time and money dealing with them.
Shipped to me in flimsy boxes the grader was bent pretty bad. After using it for a couple of years now,I haven't used it one time where I didn't have a problem with the adjustments. Cables broke adjusting rod stripped out. Adjusting rod bolt stripped out,the adjusting handle fell off the first time I used it. The height adjustment you have to crank and adjust over and over crank and crank to fill holes. You can't adjust it with weight on it. The paint faded fast. They falsely advertise just a few cranks. Took a few weeks to receive parts. So my road gets worse and worse waiting for parts. All the hardware was missing. DR did send me.out replacement hardware.
They just decide to quit making orders—even after confirming the shipment date over a month after ordering. When call for a status three weeks after supposed shipping date thy say "We don't make that any more" Tough luck. Never told me they were not going to honor their contract.
I had to get the serial number, not model. They sent me to a page in the manual. Hws that cstmr srvc
I bought my DR Brush cutter back in 2020 and bought the extended warranty. All in all it cost me a pretty penny. The cutter has broke down every year many times. DR even wanted me to check the cutter myself. I am worthless when it came to mechanical things. The Machine shop won't even work on it anymore because it is such a lemon. Do not purchase any of their products. They are part of Generac Company.
Thank you and good icky if you buy one,

I purchased a 32inch I thing walk behind bushog and a selfpowered string trimmer. $4500.00. The refused to honor their 6 month no question asked return policy. The bush hog has never started. They did send me a safety switch that allows it to crank over but it has never started, Just junk up under the shed. The trimmer is useless too. I have probably got to use it for 3 hours in 5 years. The belt broke and I replaced it and a bolt broke off. I talked to DR and they gave me the part number but it was not valid. I called a local dealer who told their products are cheap junk and good luck finding parts. The trimmer was shipped without some of the drive chains. The trimmer cuts well but has been a real hassle to use.
I bought the tow behind brush mower 52". I've had nothing but trouble with it and can't get any work done. The belt has come off repeatedly. Then the screws came off the engine! It was completely off. Then it just wouldn't start. I've spent about $1,500 repairing it and it just keeps breaking.
I called for help and got none unless I drove it 100 miles to a service center, which I can't do cause the machine's too big. They aren't "here for me" as they announce on their site. Nope. No good at all. Don't buy their machines.
Blade bar and drive mech is terrible. Belts/tensioners dont set correctly. Blade engage and separate drive mech are a PIA.
Spend the extra $400 on the TORO Timemaster # *******.
Trued to save $, not worth it.
My Dr Brush mower has lasted, with repairs for about 20 years with repairs (the good part). Parts replacement, especially cost is exorbitant. A replacement sprocket the size of a silver dollar was $17.00, OK I needed it. But the cost to mail to me, 2 states over from them, cost $12.00, mailed sure post ( the cheapest and slowest service) and took over a week to get to me. This would make me think twice to ever buy a machine from them again.
My mower-weeded was never used. Wont start. They first insisted I drive it an hour away...then they said they would find someone closer and promised to call back and have not. Now whenever I call I I remain on an interminable wait. I have a lot of experience in weed eaters and this one is a dud.
DR Field and Brush Mower 14.5 Pro-26. Have used for several years on my property ( not commercially) Developed a leak right side wheel/axle, took it to DR authorized repair person, he contacted DR and was told because trans axle is a sealed unit it must be replaced… Instead of a 5.00$ seal it took a 550.00& ( plus install) fix. That's been my DR experience.
I ordered a charger just before they closed for the day. Later, I decided to cancel because I found the original charger. I emailed them later and the next day I called them. Even though they said it was canceled, I received it and was charged. When I called them to talk to them, they hung up on me. Please be aware of this company
