Yesterday I added a new release to the database, an organ recording. The Organist's name was Marcel Dupre, but when I finished and clicked "submit", and error returned this: "The name Marcel Dupre does not exist" and no matter what I did, it would not accept this so I deleted the name and picked the name "detterot" from the drop-down selections" and that went through fine. The only thing I could think of was that my album must be a counterfeit. Another possibility is that the Organist is a criminal on the lam, using an alias, likely having fled from another country.

Awful Site
May 4, 2016

As others have noted, all this site does is enable crooks to take your money and never send you what you actually paid for. The customer service is absolutely abysmal, there is zero tracking from within Discogs so you can't even see the details of your PayPal transaction or in any way initiate a dispute for it. The whole process of starting a dispute with Discogs is $#*!ed and when you finally do get a reply from them they just tell 'sucks to be you, go talk to PayPal if you want your money back'. Steer far far away from these jokers.

Like Amazon.com and Paypal, Discogs belongs in the same category of online third-party selling platforms which exists to profit off the hands that feed it: the vendor. All conflict resolution automatically defaults to the customers who have quickly learned how to manipulate, lie and cheat sellers who are trying to conduct an honest business. If you have goods to sell and you have integrity, stick to your local flea markets & Craigslist, because the internet belongs to the thugs and criminals.

I would never use Discogs ever again. They don't care about the customers at all. If you get any problems they won't help you, they will tell you to go to PayPal. They have a lot of dodgy sellers on their site, but their feedback system makes it appear like the sellers are good.

Take a risk with your money if you like, but don't be surprised when you find you come unstuck.

If your life depends on selling records online this is not the place to be. It skews heavily towards the buyers right and not the sellers. Please avoid.

I ordered an LP from DIscogs on Dec. 4th. It was a xmas gift for my son. I never received the album. I notified them and told them also notified pay pal where the money was paid from. We went back and forth and I sent all the information requested, that I had, to the seller. The last e-mail I received from him was saying he didn't hear from me and assumed I got my LP. He said he sent me the tracking information. I told him I never received that information. The next notification I received was from pay pal saying a refund was issued. I did not ask for a refund I wanted the album.
I am very upset about this seller. He put a note on my pay pay acct saying he is done with this. He said he knows I received the LP. I never received the LP from him If I would of receive it I would of notified him. I would not do that to him or anyone else... How dare him accuse me of something like that when he doesn't even know who I am.
It was a xmas gift and still don't have it. He can stick his refund up his $#*!. That is not what I wanted. If that's how he resolves his issues that is a shame. He is not a nice person as far as I am concerned..

Overall, Discogs is a good place to get fairly reliable information on records, tapes and CDs. I sell on Discogs, and have found the members to be generally good customers. Using PayPal seems to provide sufficient buyer and seller protection, but I've only sold a few dozen LPs. I do find their review and commenting process incredibly complex and it is impossible to correct a change made by some "expert" you can't contact and can't dispute. I try to avoid participating due to the lack of inclusion among the established Discogs community.

Totally fake site if it is a "database"! Only for "members" that contribute to vote for new releases and so making you dependent to contribute somehow! But people dont care about new artists. F*** you Discogs. Time for "The Bane Method" a la Batman Style. Watch out. Same as thedjlist.com: all money making promo machines, nothing more! All votes are fake and those who need votes dont get any! F*** you too! F*** your CEO and everybody who is involved, we will f*** your servers pretty soon

Worst website for attempting to add information from existing members that take way to much interest in retaliation towards new members rather than mentor any new processes. If you are looking for a expert and professional website where you can catalogue your collection - I would reconsider to other websites that do not take an approach of "bullying" new members in to submission whereas they no longer want to be part of this glorified website.
As far as a seller website. Unfortunately the experience I have had has been very few but I can give a neutral review since the items I have purchased have been hard to find and very limited. The management team does not have any one on one contact so if you have an issue with reply from a seller you are on your own as I was at first.
As previously commented by another review they only want to deal with $$$ rather than provide a pleasant experience for new comers.
The member that currently contribute information are so obnoxious in their remarks that this alone makes a new member wonder how a company of such visibility would accept to chase away new business from new members... DON'T FIGURE...

Overall if you are looking to buy and sell merchandise, I would stick to Amazon since they have tremendous customer service and have been known by personal experience to step out of the box for a new and veteran customer to do business with and grow a lineage of great experiences..

Discogs i
Does not adequately monitor their vendors. Seems more interested in receiving their 8 percent commission than protecting buyers.

Good resource for basic public domain information from a private site. Marketplace sales are billed at 8%. Some information has been revised in accordance to Discogs guidelines and Discogs community expectations. It is difficult to add new information due to the complexity of the system, guidelines and community expectations. Free membership is required to add, edit or use many custom features of the site. There is some trolling in the forums.

Excellent site for cataloging your collection, and allows you to easily add entries to the database if they are missing. You can sell releases you own, or buy any that are for sale. Only thing is I think a bit more buyer protection could be implemented: it currently works on a ratings system that allows retaliatory negative feedback from a seller if a buyer leaves negative feedback. Overall great site for anyone interested in music.

Well to be honest... as a buyer i've found it really great for very rare stuff like psytrance/goa melodic type stuff or nitzhonot oop stuff. The prices might be high but is very well worth it, since some of this stuff is oop & or the companies don't exsist anymore. But the sell other types of music on this site too. Well worth cheking out if your looking for very rare music. Yet i've never sold on this site so i can't say what it's like from a seller's view, but hope to soon!
