DO NOT HIRE! I hired Josh from "Dad Can!" for a one-day installation of an over-the-range microwave, five days before my tenant's move-in date. He guaranteed the installation would be completed before the move-in deadline.
On the installation day, Josh insisted the microwave could only be installed by cutting a hole through the back of the house to vent externally from the rear of the unit. I questioned whether the microwave could instead be installed in a forward position to allow front/top ventilation, but he insisted that was not possible. Because I was concerned about gas and water lines in the wall, I asked him to share the installation instructions so I could review them remotely, as I was not on-site. He did not provide them.
Two days later, he returned with the vent kit and cut into the wall, only to discover obstructing gas and water lines. At that point, he finally reviewed the installation instructions and learned that the microwave could, in fact, be installed in a forward position using a bump-out kit, allowing front ventilation without cutting through the wall.
A third visit would then be required because the correct kit had to be ordered. I asked him to at least repair the hole that same day, since there were still approximately three hours remaining in his scheduled time and the wall repair compound would need time to dry, but he refused. He also refused to return the following day, offering instead to complete the work only after the tenant's move-in date.
When I attempted to discuss scheduling options to complete the installation before the tenant's arrival, Josh repeatedly spoke over me, became confrontational, and behaved unprofessionally throughout the conversation.
Ultimately, I had to terminate the job, hire a new contractor, and pay an additional $125 to repair the wall damage, on top of the installation cost. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution others before hiring this company. I will also be pursuing reimbursement for the additional costs incurred as a result of this situation.
I have attached the email where Josh admits to not reading the instructions, causing the scope to increase from 1 day to 3 days -- including cutting a hole in the wall, which then has to be repaired. He considers this as unpreventable growth in scope and "hardly something to get upset about" despite missing the delivery deadline, and refuses to refund his fees.
