I began to enroll my daughter into the Tennessee Connections. My first account was deactivated. I called their number and waited 90 minutes to talk with someone. Before hanging up, he said he would reactivate my account, but never did. I set up another account, scanned and uploaded all the required documents. Two days later, they deactivated that account. Again, no explanation or reason given whatsoever. I give up. From waiting on the phone for over an hour to talk with someone, to no explanation as to why they deactivated my accounts, and the poor response of supposed professionals when I sent emails to them explaining my situation and only 1 out of 7 responded. The response I did receive was of no help and she offered no other resources, direction, or action in which I could take. Based on these facts, not only should you not have your child enroll here, but this institution needs to be looked into by the Tennessee Board of Education.
I have had a child in ca in Pennsylvania and another in ca in tn. The tn branch is a complete joke. Nobody takes responsibility or helps IF and that is a huge IF, they even bother responding to you. My child was confirmed for gifted since the end of last school year. Here I am contacting EVERY person in the webmail for an answer. The assistant principal NEVER responds and the teachers apparently do not have the 'authority' to fix the problem or fi d out what's wrong. Terrible lazy workers. Par the course for TN workers!
Hello Sai. Thank you for your feedback. I will share your curriculum comments with our curriculum development team and the scheduling comments with school administrators. As you and your student continue to do work this school year, I encourage you to take advantage of the feedback option on each lesson to share your thoughts.
I do want to assure you that we are committed to creating an online school environment where every student feels welcome, safe, and respected, and we want our lessons reflect that commitment. We also encourage Learning Coaches to take advantage of their unique role to supplement the curriculum to highlight family values and beliefs. ~Kim
I don't recommend Tennessee Connections Academy to any parents because they nothing but lies and I have proof of everything they did to my son. They withdraw him on July 27,2021 without my consent but I spoken to Carolina Narino on July 8,2021 telling me that she received confirmation that my son was ready to start on Aug 4,2021 but still that was all lies. The sad part they sent him his laptop and handphones for what? So now my son is in emotional distress over A school is A liar and nobody not even the Principal can't tell me who approved my son paperwork over him? I just think it's A racist thing because he is Black because the Principal stated my son was off track that's why they withdraw him but Carolina told me because of his age lol bs! The rep name Mark told me that everything was going to be straightened out lol again all lies and scam... The verification department will loose your paperwork and lie and tell you that they never received it but that's all lies also... This is not the end! You Been Warn They play with my son's IEP paperwork and etc...

Moved from FL to TN and having trouble enrolling my daughter. Online chat did not help and phone call with person who doesn't speak English did not help either.

Our experience has been exceptional with Great River Connections Academy. The teachers are very accessible and personable with their students. Both my daughters, 8th and 9th grade have had a better educational experience than their previous brick and mortar school. The curriculum for them is challenging, but fun. The whole experience of transitioning to an online school was a bit scary in the beginning, but the staff and teachers walked us through the hole process and we couldn't be happier with the results.
We’re so glad to hear that you’re having a good experience at Great River Connections Academy, and we’re grateful that you took time to share your experience here. Have a great summer and we’ll see you in the fall! ~Kim
I had a great time here i loved there set up it was easy for me to handle on my own, I had such a great time i wish i could stay in 3rd grade with Mr. Bishop he was super nice and funny, he helped us all learn so much he taught me fractions on multiplication tricks
Hi Ian, we are so happy to hear you loved 3rd grade! It is so helpful to have a teacher like Mr. Bishop who supports you and makes learning fun. We hope to see you next year for 4th grade! ~Kim
We are a California Connections Academy family and may soon be a Connections Academy Florida family. Our student is a 10th grader. The connections Academy curriculum is splendid. Focused on academics, classroom teachers are attentive and communicative, subject content is of susbtance - not time-wasting, online resources are splendid, and our student is as well-socialized as most healthy high-schoolers. We are grateful to Connections Academy for the opportunity to support and guide our high-schooler.
Hi Kathleen. We’re thrilled to hear that you’re happy with the education your student is getting at Connections Academy, and we’re grateful that you took time to share your perspective here. You’ll find that same high-quality curriculum and focus on the student in Florida. If you do need to make a switch, please contact us at 866-492-2435, from 9 AM - 9PM, Eastern Time, Monday-Friday, and we’ll help you get your Florida enrollment started.
My son has been with this on-line school since Junior High, he is about to graduate High School this week. I'm very pleased with the education he received, the communication between the school and my family. The staff are very helpful and all the resources such as science, art items and books that he needed were provided. It took him a few months to get used to working on-line but once he got the hang of it he loved it and never even considered returning to a bricks and mortar school. He loves the flexibility of being able to work ahead in subjects and to work when it is more convenient for him as he's a night owl. He never missed a school day for an appointment and as he was home I knew he was eating healthy. A really great on-line school.
Congratulations to you and your graduate! We are honored that you entrusted us with your son’s education, and we wish him the best! ~Kim
This is my sons third year at OCA. The one on one attention is amazing, the teachers are always there if he needs help with anything, He has grown academically and has more self confidence.
It’s so good to hear that your son has thrived at OCA, Shana. Thank you for sharing your experience! ~Kim
My son has been attending Ohio Connections Academy for 2 years now so far the best school he has attended after 1 year at a horrible local brick and mortar school in our local area we decided to switch to online schooling we first enrolled him into Ohio Virtual Academy we hade a good 3 years with them until the end of the last year he attended with them he had a horrible experience not going into details with that but it was awful. Ohio Connections Academy has been absolutely amazing school for him though and we are looking forward to many great years ahead.
Thanks for checking in, Stephanie. We’re delighted that your son found a good fit at Connections Academy! ~Kim
I appreciate all the time the teachers put into my son's education. Quickly answering questions and always eager to help.
So glad you’re getting the help you need, Reda! ~Kim
Due to Covid & how our public school was handling things, we decided to switch our daughter (currently a 2nd grader) to FCA. I have seen mixed reviews but from our experience it was such a breath of fresh air compared to what her public school was offering. FCA does require you to be hands on, especially at her grade, but her teachers, especially her homeroom, were so helpful and friendly, always available to answer any questions. It allowed us to be more flexible with how we did school & it allowed her to progress at her own pace. The main cons I would say were 1) the intro on how to properly use the platform & make the most out of the school could have been way better & more hands on & 2) the obvious lack of classmates but there are plenty of parents who want to meet, you just have to find them. I could go more into detail but if you have any questions I wouldn't mind helping. My email is *******@gmail.com. Overall, I am extremely happy with our decision to switch. The curriculum is great and her teachers, especially Mrs. McGuigan, were amazing!
We’ll make sure to let Mrs. McGuigan know you gave her a shout out, Vanessa. I have also shared your onboarding feedback with our Learning Coach team. We are always on the lookout for ways we can improve families’ transition to online school. As for meeting with classmates, we’re hopeful that by next year, we will be able to resume offering in-person field trips and activities, which are a great opportunity for students and parents to connect. Have a great summer! ~Kim
My son was behind in public school and couldn't get enough time with teachers and little one on one. When he did it was with little results that stuck. He struggled with math and writing papers. At Ohio Connections Academy there are several EXCELLENT Math, Science, and English support options and effective supplementary computer programs! They have made a huge change in my sons education and confidence. I am not good at teaching writing or math so the additional help was a huge help. My son went from a D to B in one quarter and maintained it. Thank you for putting such an effective program together. My son actually likes going to school, likes his teachers, and his grades and education has consistently improved in Math, Science, and English. This is our 3rd year and we're staying.
You’ve made our day, Sharon. There’s nothing we like to hear about more than a student who has rediscovered enthusiasm for learning. Tell your son to keep up that amazing work. We’re proud of him! ~Kim
We have had such a positive experience. Both my boys have IEPs and they have helped them so much more than I ever had in brick and mortar. They were always communicating to us and the teachers had real connections with my boys. They went out of their way to meet extra with them to make them feel comfortable. Mrs. Ebie is amazing and cares so much for her students! Mrs. Hunter was always so positive and really worked hard on her lessons to engage the students. These are just two of the teachers who were amazing. We loved our SLP therapist Amanda and our OT, Eddie. I am so confident in the staff and really was not stressed regarding the IEPs as I knew the school took my concerns seriously. Highly recommend from a parent point of view, but also as an OT who provides services to students in this setting, I really recommend the school from both experiences.
We are grateful for your recommendation, Jennifer, and we’re delighted to hear that you and your boys have felt welcome, comfortable, and supported here. Providing that kind of environment is our top priority for us because we know students who feel safe and have the resources they need are set up to succeed as learners. ~Kim
Both of my children started OCA Fall 2020 due to the pandemic. I was concerned they would fall behind in their academics due to the pandemic and switched to OCA due to this and safety. I have been pleasantly surprised at just how much we like OCA! The teachers have been so supportive, lots of additional learning opportunities, clubs kids can be a part of, the classes challenge my children and they have grown so much with their learning this year! We love OCA and how much it is preparing our children for their futures.
We’re glad you found us this year, and it’s great to hear that your children are thriving here. ~Kim
We have been with this school for a few years know and we absolutely love it. Its flexible for our busy schedules, the teachers go above and beyond for the students. We absolutely love it.
This school is the worst. Live lessons are pointless. All they do is test your kid some more! Zero teaching! If you need help, you will need to email, and set an appointment that can take 3/4 + days, whenever the teacher is available. You can't move forward until the lesson is done. They will not take the time to prepare the kid for any exam. It's all on the parent. Having a teacher is pointless. The tests are ridiculously exhausting and frustrating. Your kid will be miserable. It's been a extremely stressful. Everything they promise is a lie. My experience is with a 3rd and 5th grader. My sister has a 1st and 4th grader and it's the same thing.
Hi Day O. First, my apologies for not responding sooner. Secondly, we never want our students – or their Learning Coaches – to be frustrated like this, and I’d like to help. Please send me an email at [email protected] so I can locate your account and put you in touch with someone at the school who can talk with you about your concerns. ~Kim
My child was ignored or muted by teachers. Wasn't given the educational materials she needed. Her assigned laptop didnt work for 90% of the assignments and online textbooks. We gave them 100 days before giving up. The teachers are poor and uninvolved. I cannot speak to their materials because here we are in February, we enrolled last July, and we still dont even have all the books. Shame on you Connections. My bright 1st grade child has to be in remedial classes now, when she started the school year ahead and full of hope.
Hi Brooke. I am so sorry to hear that your student had a difficult time at Connections Academy. I understand your frustration when it comes to your student’s materials. We did have challenges getting materials to families because of pandemic-related supply and shipping issues but tried to provide eTexts and materials whenever possible.
Our teachers value the opportunity to develop a personal relationship with each student and their learning coach, and I am sorry that was not your experience. It sounds like your student is no longer enrolled in our school, but if she is, I would love to connect you with someone who can address your concerns. Please send me an email at [email protected] if you would like me to put you in contact with someone to help, or if you would like to provide specific feedback with school administrators. ~Regina
Our 6th grade son got stuck in online school due to Covid. He is doing well so far. Better than some.
Hi Jami! I am glad to hear that your student is doing well at Connections Academy. We hope your family continues to do well throughout the rest of the year! ~Regina
The 2020 school year started with so much uncertainty that I didn't have high expectations that our district could scramble to keep up with hybrid/virtual/in person and variations of them all. A couple of my daughter's (3rd grade) classmates were doing Connections Academy and I figured that it would be a more seamless year for her if we did that too. It has far exceeded my expectations. The curriculum is presented in a very thoughtful way that let's us communicate on a wide variety of subjects. The way that the program is designed makes it easy to keep up, work ahead, and work on our schedule. My daughter is in gifted and the project was great. The teachers communicate well and take time to get to know students. I'm strongly considering continuing through elementary school because my daughter has been able to learn so much more than in a brick and mortar school where there is no opportunity to work ahead or explore subjects at this depth.
Hi Carmen! Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are so happy to hear that your student is thriving at Connections Academy. Have a great school year! ~Regina
Answer: Work at your own pace is the biggest lie out there. Supplies are usually quick to arrive though.
Answer: That is a very good question Dee. We were drawn in with that promise as well. They use exampmes of child athletes and child actors (at least they did when we were going through their website looking for schooling options) as examples of how flexible their program is but we found it to be a very different experience.
Answer: Do not put your child in this program i hate it i switched to connexus i could get more time in the gym and work out i used to spend five hours in the gym in normal school but now im only limited to one hour a day because i have so much work.the teachers never respond and its horrible they dont help me and when im at gym they call then i cant i pick up so they call my parents who are at work and will get in trouble if on there phones. I hate tis school and everyone in it and your kids will to so DO NOT DO IT! 1111
Answer: Attendance is more important to the school keeping it's Charter, than making sure a student is truly on track academically. The School has no communication skills, which is why it probably attracts lazy teachers.
Answer: I find that people take the time to vent about bad experiences rather than take the time to write reviews for good experiences. If things are working, why scour the internet for reviews. Every kiddo/parent will have a different experience with Connections Academy. Like any school program, it's not going to be right for everyone, not everyone will like a teacher, or administration or class... It's a rigorous school, not a homeschool program with lots of flexibility and curriculum that can be changed. It's working for my 7th grader, but it is hard and we wouldn't be enrolled if he didn't have me to sit by him 80% of the time. Otherwise he's getting an excellent education in Oregon and we love the teachers.
Answer: Yes, you can do you your at any time. I start at 5:00am and finish at 11:00am.
Answer: Maybe once a month. The student might get a phone call from his or her homeroom teacher on a monthly basis. Other than that, unless you or the student contact the teacher individually, then the interaction is done as a whole in the Live Lesson rooms. And so much outside stuff goes on during Live Lessons, the students do not get a lot out of them.
Answer: Hi Tina, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per day), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. Outside of the LiveLesson sessions, work is done independently, and students can typically complete their schoolwork any time of the day, any day of the week. ~Alexis
Answer: Hi Malorie, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per week), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. In general, there is no set time to log in outside of the LiveLesson sessions, so students can typically work any time of the day, any day of the week. For information specific to the school(s) in your state, please email us at [email protected]. Thanks! ~Alexis
Answer: Hi Monique, Many students with special needs thrive in online school. Can you please email us at [email protected] so we can connect you with the Special Education team in your state and also provide you with additional eligibility information about the school(s) in your state? Thank you! ~Alexis
