CommonLit

Almost all of commonlit sucks for students, and here's why:
At the start of a unit (in highschool), students learn vocabulary. This is usually done on paper. However, the definitions are incomplete, and the amount of work per word is unnecessary.
After vocab, commonlit will then give at least two stories/articles for students to examine and later use as sources in essays. These stories are often woke, subtly promoting those ideas by presenting certian values as fact. Students learn more about the actually content, rather than how to analyze text.
Following each text that students read, they will answer questions that make up the main part of their grade. The questions will fall into one three categories: Abstract, irrelevant, and time-consuming. Abstract questions will sound something like: "How do readers feel after reading the end of paragraph 22?" Two or more answers may seem correct, giving students at most a 50% chance to get that question right. Irrelevant questions are questions that aren't answered in the given text. They may include questions such as why the author did something they did. Time consuming questions are questions that may ask about one line in a long paragraph. Instead of giving you the line, they just tell you the paragraph and one thing that will prove something else.
The essays are required to be in RACE format, a format which is confusing when attempting to use for a higher level of writing. Students at a lower level may be able to use the RACE format, but teachers will give a lower grade to those students for not being at the higher level that the confused students would be able to write at.
With careful execution and purposeful effort from teachers commonlit can be a decent tool to learn from. But since commonlit content isn't selected by teachers, many will just hand the papers out and tell us to do whatever assignment it is. They say that complete knowledge of a skill, combined with applying that knowledge with heavy repetition will result in near-perfection. But, without precise framework on how to analyze a text, students like me find themselves practicing a skill they never really learned.

I thought this website would be so 67 Ohio rizzly but every time my teacher asigns me new whatever reading things (idk what to call them) please help all the kids in my class LOSE AURA! This kid in my class got into a fight wih a kid in a different class over who had more aura. The kid in the other class told the kid in my class that kid in my class has -******* AURA cuz he uses COMMONLIT! HELP YOUR SCHOOL AND START A REBELLION AGAINST COMMONLIT! Fr tho I have no more 67 skibidi Ohio rizz AURA cuz of this common s---t!

The pain I went through while completing these assignments is crazy. I don't understand how English teachers can know what this site does to us and still use it. It is terrible and so boring, and if you get one question wrong then your grade drops to like a 70 and it makes me want to commit various things.

All you do is just. Scroll and most people who does this reviews, fail a LOT. I think this is one of the worst websites ever known to man. Don't even try to use this website. Just use other ones.

The questions are so weird and the stories are more boring than waiting at the doctors office! And it asked me on a good deeds story? "How does race contribute to good deeds?" thats the most random and ultra liberal thing ive got a type and reponse about it.

This is Commonlit app is cool by itself but the only 2 things is that my school and home computer is on dark mode for all apps and seeing that it doesn't use it and is really an eyesore for me and the scrolling, you have to scroll to the bottom limit for the question to move as well and long stories make it worse. Please fix this stuff > :(

I have a deep hatred towards this site because it changed the course of my life. It never has many decent books, I'll give it that but, it is horrible with teaching me. If I get things wrong it doesn't say how I should improve and the only reason I use it is because my teacher prefers it to check if we are submitting assignments and its just overall easier on his end. I have a suggestion for commonlit. Light the site on fire so you can truly call it common lit. But really I think it should teach me how to improve my work. Honestly I think Readworks is the superior site but it needs to teach me how to improve my work to. Readworks has a better layout though and I can read the text better without squinting. So commonlit, make the text bigger, make your paragraphs less blocky and teach me how to improve.

I hate this website, the stories are very uninteresting and get boring very easily. Another thing that I hate about this website is that it doesn't give an explanation as to why you get a question wrong; it just tells you it's wrong. I feel like I just do commonlit for an accuracy grade and nothing else, thank you commonlit for making me hate english more.

This website deserves a 1 out of 5 stars. Many teacher (including my own) either do not know how to teach their students or are too lazy to do so despite having high college degrees in English. They rely on this website, CommonLit, to "teach" their students, but this website proves to do the exact opposite. Getting just one answer wrong proves to bring one's score down tremendously. Even after getting a question wrong and the assignment is graded, the website does not allow to show the write answer, and does not care to explain why it is right. Tell me, how do you teach a child if they don't know why what they chose was wrong? They will just continue to live not knowing why their answer was wrong, and possibly make the same mistake in the future. This website does not teach children what so ever, and I do not advise it for teachers to use. If you are an English teacher, please attempt to teach your class something useful rather than being lazy and assigning a garbage website to "teach" children. Thank you.

Respectful the system did not live up to it's standards and wasted 38 minutes of our class time thank you
