The New York City Data is populated by real estate and development trolls, anti-rent regulation, "socialism," "red scare(s)!," what-have-you. It is also populated by right-wing trolls. There are very, very few real people. Most of them probably believe that by posting and posting they can sway politicians or "the public." Be that as it may, little of it is worth reading. In fact, there is a great deal of misinformation, likely deliberate.

Be advised, and do not take any of it seriously. There are also more than a few psychos - a great reason never to post anything yourself. Don't engage.

Citydata forums is a white supremacist forum that does not allow for other views to refute the conservative view point that is actively promoted there. When the conservative views are in trouble by an informed poster giving them that work the moderators will abruptly lock the thread to end the intellectual butt whooping of the conservative racist. The forum has regular posters who make it a mission to disparage black people and black history, and promote casually racist lies and ideologies when it comes to those situations. They are obsessed with trying to deAfricanize ancient Egypt, and they have what paid personnel/accounts to periodically disparage black African history in an antagonistic way. This is a tactic to attract conservatives racist over to their platform. Then when a black person comes to set the record straight they will disable the account in the middle of a discussion without formerly banning that account, because banned accounts are indicated under their avatar on post that they made in the past. By not banning the account, and instead disabling the posting features it makes it appear that the person behind the account bowed out of a debate or discussion.

This is an extremely racist forum that allows racist white supremacist to disparage black African people, and will ban those who rebut their lies.

Majority of the advice you'll get here is really bad. Most of the members posting on here have some sort of political agenda and will give you false information about areas based on their views.

The views tend to be far right wing and extremely conservative which is fine but it taints their thinking. If you seek a christian fundamentalist community in the bible belt it's fine but if you seek other options you'll get propaganda and biased reviews.

Don't trust anything they say about a city or neighborhood. I've read reviews of members describing nice neighborhoods as ghettos just because the area has too many bars that are open late.

Stay away.

Was googling for pickled herring reviews and turned up a thread on this website that I had posted one post to a few years back - did not remember doing so but when I tried to register it said I was already registered!

Okay, logged in. Answered a post that said there was no source of picked herring in this-city. I said this-supermarket in this-city has picked herring in their deli case. Went back the next day to see what was going on to find out I was banned.

Guess they don't like pickled herring. Their loss.

I'm with the majority that posted negative reviews. I'd been a member for around 8 years without any problems or bad experiences. This changed when a 'troll' started bothering me for no apparent reason. Two of the mods were initially supportive, so it was like I was sucker-punched when they suddenly turned against me and one of the main mods said I was banned for life. Curious, I Googled to see if anyone else had had similar experiences, and many people did- all minorities. As it didn't occur to me to change my screen name, one of the mods actually followed (stalked) me onto Topix and started harassing me there. Upon learning who the main owner/admin was I emailed him, but he never replied. What irritates me is it presents itself as a community where everyone is welcome- but that's not the case at all.

I was researching why I was summarily banned and appeals ignored... it came down to one issue: race.

They have this huge profile questionnaire where race, background, orientation questions are asked.

For race/ethnic background I put down the truth, in descending order: german, english, cherokee.

Apparently my (higher than Liz warren but less than a casino owner) percentage of american indian blood is grounds for dismissal.

Then I did more research... for every 100 posts in the section about cities (supposedly adhering to city data) there are ******* posts in the alt section dealing with white supremacy.

The site is owned and funded by 'stormfront.org' which is a modern neo-nazi org. Stormfront gets shutdown or delisted from time to time by the DOJ for its crap, so now they are using it as a backdoor.

It is your right to read and participate in that crap, yes I said crap, in the US. But I would not. I have started efforts to get city-data delisted from google or at leasdt re-categorized.

Stay away from this site. This is no place for open and honest discussion. It is full of trolls and bad faith operators. To make matters worse, the moderators are horrendous. They are either extremely biased or non-existent. When a post gets reported moderators freely edit and delete posts without reason. I've had dozens of posts that have been deleted that contained no personal attacks or vulgarity. They were deleted because the person I was conversing with didn't agree with what I said. So they reported me and the moderators deleted my post, regardless of whether I had broken any rules or committed a violation, such as attacking someone personally.

Reddit and other forums are much better places for open discussion. Where 99% of posts remain on the site and the community self moderates with up/down votes.

If you hate everybody who isn't lily white, feel that the wimmin folks should stay in their place and that all Hispanics be shot on sight just in case - then this is the site for you. I don't mind a good discussion even if it gets a little rough around the edges, but the mods are so far to the right and enforce their POV so rigorously that you can get banned for typing a post with your left hand - I kid you not. I once even received an infraction for writing "sic transit gloria mundi" (Latin for thus passes the glory of the world). You are allowed to post only in 'Merican. Enter at your own risk!

I had posted since 2008 using different names, one of them scoring a little over 2,000 points. I was drawn to the Politics forum and had been temporarily banned by the ultra-witch IbGinnie. I had a recent screen name for about a year and a half, but FORGOT my password to get back in. My iPad was saving the password in memory, until it WASN'T. When I tried to get back on using the "Forgot password" function, I got nowhere. I e-mld a moderator without reply.
I invented a new name and managed to stay on a few weeks. Very suddenly and out of nowhere, I received a notice that I was BANNED, LIFTED- NEVER, Reason- Troll.
I honestly don't know what was trolling, but I did call trump the biggest con of all time- hee heee. That could have been it? I'm done with it for good. It's like walking on eggshells with them.

It's been mentioned that the Moderator (moderating, indeed.) Ibginnie (may be a male using a female name), is troublesome, habitually deleting perfectly innocuous posts while leaving posts with truly hateful remarks untouched. It's not understood the rationale of doing this, so it just means the so-called Mod is showing favoritism to their cronies. I didn't even know what was going on at first, feeling like being in the Twilight Zone.

Otherwise, the site can be enjoyable with many topics and some posters being knowledgeable and humorous, enjoying the interaction with, yet as said, others can make things unpleasant, those who this mod appears to side with. It would be nice to visit a site like this run by rational, impartial adults instead, which all the "normal posters" would be able to enjoy.

The site itself is okay. The political forum is full of right-wingers, many of them on the fringes. I suspect they mostly live in their moms' basements or maybe in ramshackle cabins in the woods, surrounded by their guns. But whatever, it takes all kinds to make the world go 'round. My issue is more with the mods. Ibginnie is one who likes to delete posts that she doesn't like; strangely, the posts she doesn't like are generally the ones that call out one of the RWNJs for saying something stupid. She leaves the original stupidity alone, though.

All of the forums have their nutters. I guess they are professional (unpaid) trolls. Lots of millionaires in the personal finance threads, lots of people who can't spell in the writing forum, people who post like they've never even laid eyes on a child in the parenting section. Conspiracy theorists galore. Occasionally you can get a question answered, but most of the time it's just a lot of one-upping to the point of absurdity. Decent way to pass the time, anyway, if you're super bored.

If you read their forums and you are not white, Trump loving, hate Californians... this site is not for you. Also, I am in Montana and the postings are so awful, they also give a false view of my state. We are not a bunch if redneck Trump lovers. There are lots of Californians here, and many if them are nice people! We vote the person -not the party. Party affiliation does not even mean much here. People rarely talk politics.
But after looking at other threads about other states, they all have these same gate filled comments. I am going to New Mexico soon, which is a blue state. The forums are about avoiding the "liberal tears" of Santa Fe. WTH? Who constantly thinks like this?
Who judges everything and everyone through such a narrow lens? How Californians are all horrible people. I guess even the Republicans from California are worthy of this hatred.
But the racism stuff bothers me the most.

I will never, ever, ever join that site or look at it again. It us full of trolls and disgusting.
