On SmartCustomer, businesses may not offer incentives or pay to remove reviews. Learn more about our Review Guidelines.
The company's reputation is significantly tarnished by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily due to misleading pricing practices and poor service quality. Many customers report feeling deceived by initial low fees that quickly escalate to substantial monthly charges, often without clear communication. Complaints about ineffective reports, difficulty in canceling subscriptions, and unresponsive customer support are prevalent, leading to sentiments of frustration and mistrust. While a few users found value in the service, the overwhelming negative feedback highlights a critical need for improved transparency and customer care to rebuild trust and enhance overall satisfaction.

Signed up during a one-time offer for $1.99 on a Wednesday. That Monday, I'm getting charged $39.27. They didn't make it clear this was a five-day trial and that I would be getting charged a monthly subscription rate after that (which turns out to be higher than the posted monthly subscription). Tried canceling immediately on Wednesday, but the office was already closed (they don't have online support). Had to work Thursday and Friday, and their office was closed Saturday and Sunday. Monday night, I saw the second transaction. Called Tuesday morning. No supervisor or manager to speak to AT ALL. The representative was rude, argumentative, and refused to issue a refund. I also think it's absurd that anyone can pay $2 to get your private information, yet you have to pay over 10 times that much to have yourself removed from their system.
They didn't make it clear when the trial starts. I tried calling them over the weekend but found they were closed. I called today, they won't refund me. They charged me $39.27. Which i can't afford! I called my CC company. I have to wait until it's out of pending status and then my CC company will file a claim and I'll get my money back.
This is so messed up!
Yes, I sighned on... something wrong... call me immediately I wan cancel...! I entered my own name after sighning up... 3 times... no report. I definetly want to cancel and an answer why I could not get my own report on myself!
I tried to cancel on the day they said my trial was good until and they said I was already charged because I didn't cancel soon enough! I know I canceled the day my account was good until! Asked for a supervisor but of course there wasn't one (sure!). When I looked people up all I got was addresses - anything else I would have to pay more for - just like all the other companies - so they are giving nothing for their "trial" subscription! Ripoff!
I kept the rest of my month, but didnt use then cancelled. Again warning to people they will take your money. Stay away.
Hi Kelli, I'm sorry you had a poor experience with CheckThem. I understand that you canceled your monthly subscription and lost access to CheckThem. If you believe that you lost access early, please contact [email protected] and we'll be happy to extend you additional free days.
Answer: Yes, I believe they do. All the 5-star reviews, which are completely opposite of all the 1-star reviews they normally get, were all posted around the same time frame and have very similar language. What a bogus site.
Answer: Hi. You can instantly cancel online by navigating to "Account" => "Cancel My Account". You will receive a confirmation email within a few minutes.
Answer: They do not tell you this! It turns out to be only 5 days but they do not tell you this and then after five days they hit you with a full monthly subscription and will not refund it.

Answer: Hi Jeff. You can search social media with your account. The only extra fee reports ($19.99) is to search Bankruptcies and Liens (which we have to pay for). Everything else is included.
