Definitely a scam
July 24, 2015

I wanted to look up the marriage and divorce records of someone. All I got was "NO information found."' I looked up my own name and got the same answer. Then they billed me $29.99 without my knowledge for the next month. I had to get rid of my credit card. This company is a total scam. I am sure there are legitimate companies that do background checks but this is definitely not one of them.

BackgroundAlert is a scam
July 23, 2015

They advertised a trial period for $1. Their informational search had NO current information or any of the information that it advertised. Then they billed me for 2 months at $29.99 when they said they would credit me. Truly a scam of a company!

WHAT A SCAM
July 21, 2015

FIRST THEY SAY THEY ARE FREE. I KNEW THAT WOULD BE THE FIRST LIE. BUT I NEEDED INFO SO I SIGNED UP FOR 6 MONTHS AT 9.95. FOLKS THAT'S PER MONTH WHICH THEY DON'T MAKE CLEAR. THEN YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO GET INFORMATION BUT HAVE TO PAY MORE TO GET ACTUAL CRIMINAL RECORDS. I KNOW THAT THE GUY I LOOKED UP HAS JUDGEMENTS BECAUSE ONE OF THE JUDGEMENTS WAS A CASE I'M INVOLVED WITH. I CALLED THE BACK GROUND ALERT AND THAT'S WHEN I FIND OUT THE TRUTH ABOUT ALL THE CHARGES. THE LADY HUNG UP ON ME WHEN I TOLD HER THAT THE 2 GUYS I LOOKED UP HAD THE SAME FACES ON THE SEX PURPS PAGE. ALSO BEFORE SHE HUNG UP ON ME SHE TOLD ME THAT PEOPLE CAN HAVE THEIR REPORTS ERASED. IT'S ALL LIES AND SCAMS. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME.

I signed up for 30 days of unlimited reports priced at $22.95 - I wanted to run reports on my old classmates to see how many of them were still alive. Out of a clear blue sky the service locked up and I could get no more reports. I immediately called their telephone number *******027 I spoke with Kelly, and Ashley they both told me that the computer automatically thought I was a business because I was requesting numerous reports, so it shut me down, well, so much for unlimited reports. They also told me that the account would be reviewed which never happened. I called back and spoke with Brandon, he gave me the same line of Bull. Then I called again and spoke to James, he first started by telling me he would issue a 50% refund on my credit card, I told him B. S. your company did not live up to the terms which were unlimited reports so either issue a full refund or I will dispute the full amount with my credit card company, he said ok. Today I checked my Credit Card Account and saw the charge and disputed it. Ergo,, they are a bunch of lying sons of blitches furthermore, the information is totally inaccurate, I checked at least twenty individuals who I knew to be married and divorced, they showed nothing. I checked on myself and my previous marriage did not show at all. If you pay $22.95 you are paying for $1.00 worth of information, this is a total ripoff and these arssholes should not be allowed to do business anywhere.

HOW DISAPPOINTING!
July 6, 2015

I don't know if it's the fault of the site or the govt. Databases that the info is taken from, but I too found tremendous problems, misinformation, wrong information, confusion and other mistakes. On every person I looked up it automatically said that they "have committed sexual offenses." Followed immediately by "(name) is not a sexual offender." It's very offensive! This is idiotic and pretty darn bad.

This is a total rip off!
June 12, 2015

I paid my fee to join this rip off site for just one month. I did a background check on myself and it was not accurate at all. Within 10 minutes I called their customer service number, told them that their information is totally inaccurate, and I wanted my credit card credited for the amount I just paid 10 minutes ago, and was told that was immposible. Don't even fall for their half off special, this site sucks! You won't get what you're looking for.

Total Rip Off
May 28, 2015

D I only been smart enough to read the reviews first I see that others feel the same way I do. Not only was the report a total waste. I knew way more info then they even came up with-but when you complain to them they lie to you. Their excuse was in the small print in the disclaimer that it states that not all states allow records check. Could they maybe list these states, no of course not. I have the feeling they would have to list the entire world and that no matter where to report was coming from you would get the same info I did. NOTHING Then the say they will apply a credit to your credit card for the amount you were ripped off. It takes them less then 30 seconds to e-mail you a bill and charge your card. But will take two or three days to seen the credit and a e-mail verifying that. It has been six days and is still charged on my account. Today they assure me I will see the refund credit to my credit card with in 24 hours. I'm not holding my breath, but if it's not all info will go to the BBB.

INACCURATE INFO, FRAUDULENT
May 27, 2015

I ran my name. EVERYTHING was inaccurate! No trust was placed in information of the other two names I ran. Those were incomplete as to known facts. I cancelled the same day I signed up. Payment non-refundable, according to them. I cancelled payment with my credit card company.

Never, ever give your credit card to sites like this one
March 17, 2015

"BackgroundAlert" should set off alarm bells just by the sheer stupidity of its name. Always assume that "background info" pay sites are scams. I can find out almost anything about anyone on FamilySearch for free. It's not even connected to stupid Ancestry.com, amazingly, which seems to have practically cornered the market on everybody's personal details. BlackBook is another good source of free information. Try those options before you haul out a credit card and throw your money away on rip-off sites like BackgroundAlert.

February 10, 2015

I cant believe the law will let scumbag companies like backgroundalert.com rip you off like they do. The info that I got for $22.95 gave just the name and address of the person which I can get anywhere. I upgraded for $19.95 to get all information and got nothing.
They should put these bastards in jail for fraud.

On May 14,2014, I paid around $60 for the service for several months. The information it provides is scarce if any. Today, June 29,2014, I tried to check on someone who is working at my home, and couldn't even log in. This one is a SCAM. Save your money

Terrible privacy violators
June 19, 2014

Terrible privacy violators- they don't care if you're a cop, child under 13, or victim of stalking or domestic violence, their online opt out system does not work and there is no way to get in touch with anyone who can help. Emails sent to their customer service email address bounce back, no one responds if you use their online contact form (even though there is an autogenerated message that says they'll respond in one day), and I am pretty sure their phone number goes to a third party answering service because they don't know how to help or answer any of your privacy or opt out questions. It's awful that they can get away with not even having a functioning email address to get in touch with them. If you have issues with them too, please consider reporting to the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse (I'm not affiliated with the latter) or the FTC. That's the only effective way to hold them accountable for their own privacy/opt out policies. Thanks.
