CANNOT BELIEVE ANCESTRY LOST MY RECORDS AND PICTURES FROM 11 YEARS WORK. BETTER CHECK TO SEE IF ALL IS IN YOUR GALLERIES. MINE DISAPPEARED AND THEY DON'T HAVE ANSWERS!
I tried Ancestry because i wanted to know more about my history. It was good at first but then got junk. I validated a good % of the info was not accurate. Once I tried to cancel my membership I went online to cancel and there was no way to do it. I then tried to cancel by calling where the automated system hung up on me several times. I STILL trying to cancel this membership. I may just end up canceling the card all together so THEY have to call me!
After sixteen years of research and never uploading my tree to ancestry, I felt with the coming of old age the benefits of doing so would be beneficial in its completion.
My tree was marked private; therefore, it would not be shown under their trees for review. However, the moment it was synced, it was shown making my private notes available for the world to view.
Only one of my trees was linked to Ancestry but they hacked all my trees (a work in progress) and made them and my photographs visible.
In order to do this, my computer had to be hacked as I did not upload these photos to them. They also obtained all personal documents held on the drive.
Not only was their maneuvers unacceptable but they made changes to my tree. They are
Unscrupulous in their grabbing private information to enhance their website.
Changing this data has forced me to begin again.
Should you need assistance with your research use www.familysearch.org. It doesn't cost you anything and records pertinent to your search are more accurate than Ancestry.
Ancestry search for marriage records is rubbish. Total waste of money. Can't find my aunt's marriage. Can't even find my own marriage which I know exists.
I've had a tree at Ancestry on and off for eight years. I have even keyed (transcribed) some of the records. I understand the spelling errors, as they use members to read and type the information. I am not connected with the LDS church or the company. Just someone who enjoys researching my family.
My best advice is to be wary of other member's trees unless you are lucky enough to know the owner is related to you. I have seen many people just stick in names and dates, adding no records at all. Each census, military, birth or death record, will give your tree the chance to be more accurate!
Bottom line: a bit pricey for me, but I love the searching.
The review came back and said I could be 45% Eastern European, 43% Great Britain and 11% Ireland. WOW what a great analysis... it is terrible. A total broad brush stroke, they did not drill down at all... IT SUCKS.
To say they use blanket results is an understatement. I already knew I had British and Irish ancestry, but I was searching to find out how much Native American I had... the results show 0%. This is complete crap, my Grandfather on my father's side, is 1/2 Native American, which is documented, yet they show 0%? And no, I'm not adopted or the mailman's kid. It appears they do a name search, and find a general area that somewhat matches, then give you bogus DNA results. Don't waste you time and money with Ancestry DNA!
Have an expensive subscription then paid $100 for DNA. My results won't load properly and I keep getting a message to try back in a few minutes - FOR DAYS. Customer service only states it's a "known issue" and they are "working on it". Site has been loading slow for weeks now. Feel trapped because of all the research I saved to the site. ANCESTRY PLEASE IMPROVE
My wife bought 3 dna kits, then months later finds out they have been charging our credit card every month for membership. Calling them was useless. Be careful.
I purchased a kit for 99.00 and mailed it, got an email 3 days later that the kit was "activated". I assumed that meant received and in process. I expected that in "6-8 weeks I would receive another email providing access to the results. I did not get that email. 10 weeks later I received an email stating THEY JUST RECIEVED IT!. I called the support for product and informed that the sample is no longer good. The only thing they can refund is partial shipping cost. No kit, no support. An online service should at minimum monitor "activated" accounts and contact purchaser that kit was not received. WASTE OF TIME AND WASTE OF 100+SHIPPING DOLLARS! Should BE "0" STARS
Been a member for a long time and enjoy it when I find new things about my roots. Since I
Resubscribed this time I am having a hard time getting it to work properly. I try to look things up and it wants to redirect me to I do not know what! Then a screen comes up telling me how to start a tree! I do not need that but it takes many tries before it will let me search.
My internet is not very fast so I usually get frustrated and shut it down.
Does anyone else have this problem
'
I have been on hold several times throughout days and long waits. I had an acct and they cancelled the original subscription. They did not pay attention that I only cancelled the upgrade of 214 something... This is so frustrating. I cannot use the site that I have paid for originally.
1, I spent a lot of time finding photos for most of my relatives, especially my siblings. Yesterday I found that all the photos had disappeared.
2.In my father's profile, it lists all of his siblings. Then it lists them again, but now they are half siblings. Why?
3. I took the DNA test and it said I was 5% Scandinavian, My paternal grandmother and at least 3 generations before her came from the Danish Island of Bornholm. This was backed up with church records. That should put me to at least 25% Scandinavian
4. I just looked now and over a half of my family tree has disappeared.
What's going on?.
No longer user friendly, constantly prompting to subscribe, even though I have already subscribed and paid. Can't accomplish anything because of this redirection. I used to like this site years ago, now it's a JOKE. Will not EVER recommend Ancestry.com. It sucks to say the least. Must have been taken over by scammers or aliens...
So, 2 days later and I am still trying to figure out why a tree that has been shared with me does not show up in my trees, etc. Can't call because there is always a minimum of 20 minutes wait time. I have spent over 10 years building 2 family trees with the old version which was great. This new version changes my info and is IMPOSSIBLE to navigate. A taks that should take seconds to perform usually takes 2 days to figure it out. Then there is all the required log ins even tho you are already logged in. Sometimes it wont take it and says your password is wrong when you know it isn't. Every time I have tried to use this site over the past few years has resulted in my wanting to go postal. God I am sick of this!
So I had been curious about ancestry's service for a while and decided to do the free trial. Bad move on my part. In order to do much of anything you have to pay them, understandable. But from what I saw it wasn't worth the money and cancel my membership the same day. Or did I? Now a couple of months later I see a charge from ancestry on my bank account. Obviously confused, I called customer support and spend 10 minutes on hold with music and ads blaring out of my phone. Finally someone picks up and I present my problem and give my information only to be told there seems to be no record of my cancellation. Big surprise. He refunded my money for the last month's charge but tells me there's nothing more he can do. As mad as I was I pretty much expected that. So congratulations to ancestry for scamming $70 from me. So in the end, unless you're adopted or for some reason have absolutely no record of your family history don't bother with this site.
To try this out, I searched for people whose information is easily found for free elsewhere. There were "0" matches for people I had already found on census records.
If there is some secret to the search function, I would like to know what it is. There is no support other than telling me to ask someone else.
I did not want to use the entire 14 day free trial to try to learn to use this non-supported site.
I will see what I can find in the free trial, and then go back to the free sites.
Ancestry.com is good at trying to up-sell related features.
I am having a lot of the same problems as other. 1says it is down try later.
2 Accept of ignore Photo or info, but it never goes away. I have over 200 photos that just keep returning
3 On grave site I am given info on Person but if click on web page the info is for a different person? What is going on
I have been a member for 16 years and have never had so much trouble!
I cancelled with them and they have deactivated it and charged me 4 months until I realised, don't trust them.
I noticed they were charging my card 20.99 I called the number and held 30 minutes for the cancel department. They keep telling you to go online and it will be quicker. They could not find me on line. I call again and instead of 2 for canceling I push 1 for upgrading. They answer right away. I tell her this and I am trying to cancel. She sTs she can help me. She gives ma a number to call archive to cancel. Same thing. You call and wait and wait. Someone needs to stop these people.
Answer: I agree... so many current complaints yet they seem to be more concerned with signing up new, younger members who are more deeply engaged in technology. It is business to these folks and they have to get younger people joining to make more money long term. Baby boomers though are their natural market and as more boomers retire and have more time and discretionary income they will be the ones who will be likely to join over the next few years.
Answer: Hi Joan, I see Karen above has answered your question regarding the old site. Full that box in Joan, tell them why you are leaving, give it to them straight. Write what you have put above, and more if so inclined. I have told them exactly what I think of their new so called experience! I think they have got a nerve inflicting this on us without even asking. They have made so many errors on the profiles, I know I shall have to check through every person on my tree, the mistakes they have put on are unbelievable, maps have been added that have nothing to do with the person. But the whole new set up is not enjoyable to use at all, the background colour is very hard on the eyes. I hate this new site with a passion! They should give us the choice of the format. From feedback I have seen, most of their long term customers much prefer the old site, Ancestry don't seem to realise what a great unique format they had, it was really classy, I loved working on it for hours and hours. They should listen to their customers, because they are going to be leaving their site in droves when the old ancestry is not available anymore. I shall use the old site as long as possible, then look for somewhere else to do my researching
Answer: Go to the right side of the page up at top where you sign in, and in the pull down menu there will be a place to go back to the old, classic ancestry, you know however, soon they are pulling the plug
