The overall reputation of Allrecipes has significantly declined, with many customers expressing deep dissatisfaction with recent changes to the website and app. While the platform was once praised for its user-friendly recipe search and community-driven content, users now report a loss of functionality, including the inability to sort recipes effectively and access saved content. Customer service has been criticized for being unresponsive and vague when addressing concerns. This shift has led to frustrations, prompting many users to seek alternatives, indicating a pressing need for the company to reassess its approach and restore valued features.

AllRecipes used to be amazing. I used to look up a recipe, get suggestions, choose one, print it, and BOOM! Dinner is served.
HOWEVER, now, whoever designed their website, has made it overrun with ads SO MUCH so that you can't even click or search for the recipe you want, as the page is constantly loading ads, and re-scrolling to different areas when you actually want to click on something. Video ads wont stop when you click the pause or volume buttons.
This page used to be great.
The recipes on it still are!
The site itself, DOWNHILL FAST. So unappealing, its almost not worth trying.
Just learn to click the "stop loading" button on your web bar. It's the only thing that MIGHT help you navigate this page.
How the heck are you supposed to watch a video on all recipes when the ad videos are playing at the same time... and no way to stop playing them without cutting the sound, which also cuts the sound on the website video. Goodbye!
If I actually notice that a site is slow, then it's *really* slow. Not only that, but Allrecipes is absolutely unusable on any of my mobile devices. It will hang up on my 'phone every time to the point that if the site comes up in a search, I don't bother with it, this is with different browsers and a fairly recent model phone. Not much better on my tablet.
I used to love the AllRecipes site and have been a member for at least 18 years. Prior to March 2017 there were no advertisements when one did a search for a recipe. Today on my search page I found SEVEN ads with no ability to close them. Every search is between 3-7 ads. Additionally, there is no point in doing the ingredient search because the search gives you what AllRecipes wants you to see and those recipes are laden with name brand products!. After one phone call and talking to a brick wall who clearly did not like her job I decide to warn others.
I predict that Meredith is on the money train and the next step will be offering paid memberships that will bring us back to what the site was prior to the changes. Ie no ads and correct search credentials.
Meredith - if you troll sites for ratings FIX THE ISSUES...
I've been using Allrecipes pretty much since they started. Loved it, best invention ever. It revolutionized the way I found and organized recipes and gave me a place to compile my own recipes online. They started messing with it several years ago combining with Dinner Spinner (still not sure what that is). Requiring me to change to the new app. Then they tried to change it into a social network sight and completely confused the formatting. I can no longer make notes to recipes about any substitutions or changes I made to someone else's recipes or even my own that I have tweaked. That's a game changer for me! I cook almost everyday and can't remember all the little changes I make. I need to make notes people! Also there was a time when you could use your tablet to create a new recipe but now you can only do it from your laptop.
If I have a recipe that takes 30 minutes to make, but it takes almost 20 minutes to find it, it's not worth it! Pages load SO slow. Searching through my favorites is SO slow (and if I click a recipe it takes me back to the top of the list every time). The search feature doesn't work at all in my favorites. For example, I have about 10 recipes with the word "banana" in the title. But depending on the day, 0 or 2 or 5 of them will be displayed. It's so fickle and broken. :( Looking for a new recipes site...
When I first complained about the new website, Allrecipes had an over 80% positive rating on SiteJabber. A year or so later? It's now below 60%.
And their management think they're onto something better than what they had before. Hah! Try a simple Google search for recipes you have in mind: you've find plenty of links, many with ratings, and you won't have to put up with the Allrecipes attitude which, forgive me, sucks. Big Time.
I don't use recipe sites often, but sometimes during the holidays I'm in the mood for a new cookie or dessert recipe. I also rarely write reviews, but I feel the need to vent my frustration and disappointment. This site is merely an annoying array of ads, pop-ups, and product shilling with a recipe hidden in there somewhere...
With the myriad recipe sites available, I certainly won't be returning to this one again!
I understand websites are paid for with ads, but if the ads make a site unusable, everyone loses. I won't be using Allrecipes anymore after trying to follow a recipe and getting kicked out every time I tried to scroll down. This site is worthless. Go dig up your grandmas' recipes instead. You'll get less indigestion.
I agree with other reviewers in that the update sucks, but my biggest complaint is that they took out the facility to make my own personal notes on recipes for my own use "use less salt", "add more cumin", etc. Also, this isn't unique to AllRecipes, but if you read 90% of the reviews for any particular dish, it is AFTER the recipe has been 'tweaked'. Ideally, if I see five stars for a particular recipe, that 'should' mean that most people made it as directed, and it is awesome as written, or if there are less stars, it isn't so good made as written. But that's not the case. People grab the recipe, and in their review, they note "I used half the cream...", "I added celery"..."I cooked at 350 degrees and not 425 degrees"..."I used peas instead of carrots"... on and on. The whole purpose of my looking at the rating system is so I can I can make a 5 star dish and get 5 star results, but when everyone is modifying the recipe before they make it, and THEN give it five stars... what good is that to me? I have to read 20 reviews and 'study' the changes to see how it 'might' come out 5 stars for me? People are so dense... they need to make the recipe as written, then rate it, then make it to suit their tastes. I would have no problem if I read a 3 star review with a comment like "This recipe was too spicy for my family, so I gave it 3 stars, so I made it again with half the chili, and more garlic (WHATEVER), and now my family loves it". Like I said, when people don't rate the recipe as printed, their rating is useless, making the whole rating system inaccurate and nonsensical. Would be nice if AllRecipes would have a checkbox in the review "I made this recipe exactly as written"... so then I could hit a checkbox "Show me the reviews where the recipe was made as written"... and then I could decide whether to make it or note. Because Doris in Minnesota cut the rosemary in half and added twice the paprika and gave a five star review... that's stupid... I don't go to AllRecipes to read Doris' tweak on a recipe.
I have been using this site for years (probably a decade) and this update is the absolute worst I have ever seen. (Funny enough the Food Network site is really lousy too but this is worse.) I agree with the many comments so I will not repeat them
However, I did send an email to their technical team to ask them to STOP insulting our intelligence with that stuff on java and cookies. They want to play with the big media dogs but apparently do not have the talent or skills. They should stick to what they did best and the people will come.
It must be the Ads but this website is extremely bad. The recipe content is good but the loading and errors are ridiculous. I'm avoiding as much as possible
I used to come on allrecipes at least once or twice a week, sometimes more. It was my "go-to" for all my meals. I cannot handle how slow it is now. What happened? I can't use this site anymore and it makes me sad. I hope it gets fixed soon.
Maybe I'm just not tech savvy but I find this website difficult and confusing. Ads keep popping which is annoying. Can't find printing option... what's up with that. The old website was sooo much better and user friendly. I will be deleting this app. Ugh,
This website is SO SLOW, it makes me want to scream. I assume it's because of the ads. I can't even use it anymore, it's so frustrating. The mobile app is much faster.
I have found many good recipes on it though, and I usually find the comments very helpful, but I wish people wouldn't list all of the changes they made to a recipe and then rate it highly based on their changes. If you had to change it a whole bunch, then you didn't like the original recipe, and it would be helpful if that was reflected in your rating.
This entire web site has changed and not for the better. These are the issues:
1. When saving a new recipe it is extremely difficult to find a folder that you had created in the past to place the new recipe
2. When you print a recipe you can no longer change the font, include comments that you would want. The options for printing has been removed
3. If you change the serving size - when you print the recipe it does not tell you how many it serves
4. It is very difficult to find the recipes in your collection and you previously had prior to the site change
5. When printing a recipe it prints the advertisements which is not wanted thus wasting ink
I have called several times and all I am told is that they are working on it. I dont know what country is working on it but they should be fired. I have canceled my magazine and no longer use the site
I'm so mad and frustrated, I could scream! I had major surgery on my foot and in a cast so thought it would be a good time to finally sort all those recipes I have been saving and wanting to input into a good program or site. I wanted to be able to share my recipes with my daughter or friends and customer service instructed me how to do it. It started out great about a week and a half ago, put in several recipes I've had for years, and thought it would be great to be able to edit them, etc. Can't delete them though because they said too many people were deleting the wrong ones. Don't understand this, they should be able to delete anything that they created, not anyone else's, of course. After two days of putting in my recipes, something happened and I cannot input a new recipe nor can I go to the existing ones and edit them. I put one in, as per instructions from their rep, very basic, like one ingredient, to just experiment with the site. Now it's there, totally worthless, and I cannot edit it to add to it and I certainly can't delete it! I've contacted, via email, "customer relations" 4 times over the last 1 1/2 weeks, and all they do is send another automated message instructing me to check my computer and see if javascript and cookies, etc, are enabled. They were and are. It's NOT my computer! It's their website! One "customer service" rep told me that the IT people, the so called maintenance people, meet ONCE a week, to discuss issues. Well, apparently, there is a HUGE issue and no one seems to be doing anything about it. Apparently they don't care or are unqualified to do anything about it. You choose. I really liked AllRecipes.com and have printed off a few really good recipes. But don't even try to put your own in there. You'll have nothing but grief! Now, I have to completely start over from the beginning.
I try to avoid this site because it is so painfully slow... I assume because it's loaded with ads, etc. Sometimes I really want a recipe I know is on Allrecipes and am willing to endure the wait. Right now I have it open in another window and it's still connecting. Never mind... it just timed out.
Printing a recipe from the old website was so much nicer than your new one. If I print from your actual recipe page, the number of servings and calories does not show up on the printed copy. Why? When a new website is created, it's supposed to be improved not more confusing.
I echo many others who HATE the new site. It feels like being on the internet in the mid-90's. Slow, glitchy, horrible organization. This has always been my go-to ( I LOVED finding recipes based on ingredients), but, sadly, no longer. Off to better sites.
