I have come to the conclusion that Samsung somehow knows if you do not use factory filters and shortly afterwards, the refrigerator "Breaks" and you need a factory repair person to fix the refrigerator. Bite the bullet and buy the factory filter and have no problems.
We need original equipment manufacturer filters for our refrigerator's ice maker and cold water feature. All Filters fulfills our orders same or next day and we have filters in a few days. We order two at a time, and reorder when we install the second filter.

Bought the regular powder carbon filters. 5 micron and they work fine. Decided to try the radial flow carbon filters 25 micron and see if there is any difference.

I buy 2 filters for our refrigerator every year = 1 every six months (did the math for you :). They help keep our water as clean as possible - I suppose nothing is perfect - but I can give you some very down-to-earth experience. In Miami, we have very hard water, and it has also been treated. I bake sourdough bread almost every week. Somewhere between 5-6 months, I find that my starter begins to be very difficult to recharge from being in the fridge for a week, taking me days of feeding it twice a day. As soon as I see the least little sign of trouble, and as I said 5-6 months with our water, I change the filter and flush the new one. It's like magic. Ok, so maybe you don't do what I do, but think about what contaminants and chemicals are in your water that you drink and decide if you need the filters or not. I've been buying filters from All Filters for a number of years: very reliable, filters come in a timely manner, the quality (I buy the actual name brand filters from the fridge company, not the cheaper ones) has always been as advertised. The company has, for years, proven to be reliable and trustworthy.
