I was an ActiveCampaign user for 8 years, from 2017-2025. It was fantastic - the functionality was very robust - the most robust I've ever seen. To the point where I started relying on email marketing as the main revenue driver for my business.

So why am I giving it a 1-start review?

Because in late 2025, my account was shut down for no reason, and without warning. When I tried to log into my account, I just got an error message. I had to reach out to support to find out what happened.

At first, I thought it was an ActiveCampaign-wide problem. I waited a day, and tried again. No luck. I waited 2 days and tried again. Still no luck. After 3 days, I started to panic, and emailed customer support. It wasn't an ActiveCampaign problem. It was just my account.

When I emailed customer support, they said they're looking into it. When I asked for a deadline, they didn't commit to anything. They usually get back to me quickly, but another couple of days had passed by, I've already lost a lot of money because of this outage, and still no luck.

By this point, I started looking into other email marketing providers. By the time they got back to me, I already created an account at a different email marketing provider.

When they got back to me, they told me that they're taking so long because it's the holiday season. First of all, bad excuse. The number of days off during the holidays are two: Christmas and New Years. Second of all, a lot of businesses (their customers) make the most sales during the holidays. This is not the time to work less hard on their end.

Another couple of days had passed by (I had already started using the other email marketing software), and they told me that it was a mistake on their end that my account was shut down automatically.

They reinstated my account, but by then it was too late. This was extremely poorly handled. If my account was shut down, I should have immediately received an email, explaining the situation, and something is being done about it. They should have also been a lot less casual about it. For a business that relies heavily on email marketing, a mistaken shut down should have been top priority.

After everything was resolved, as a gesture, ActiveCampaign refunded me for one month of usage. Nice gesture, but I lost a lot more money than that, and I spent a lot more money than that on migrating everything from ActiveCampaign to the new email marketing software. Too bad that such a useful, robust, functional software treated a long-term customer like this, and messed up royally.

Their customer service is the worst I have ever experienced across like companies. I had several issues with ActiveCampaign but the most serious one happened during a well-planned program launch where I relied heavily on them for the marketing piece.

I spent approximately two weeks going back and forth with their support team about my campaigns not being delivered during what could have been a lucrative launch. I included evidence of my claim and, instead of taking responsibility and resolving, they shrugged their shoulders. Ridiculous and unnecessary amount of time spent with them. They simply do not care about their customers.

I switched to activecampaign because I wanted to integrate survey monkey into our email newsletters. I did not want to have to recreate an entire new survey using contsant contacts survey creator. I did like the way you can integrate surveys into your email newsletters and it was very easy to customize your own newsletter, but they lack the ability to manage your client database. If you have multiple lists of clients that you target, they have no good solution to merge lists together and/or wipe bad clients off of all the lists in one easy method. To me that is critical for email marketing. Maybe I just missed on how to do this but that missing piece is why I didnt use active campaign for more than a couple months.

Hi William, I'm sorry to hear that you had issues with managing your database. We actually have a Contacts section where you can do just that. In terms of merging lists, we do not do that per se. However, we have a Bulk Edit feature that allows you to add contacts from one list to the another. If you have questions about this, please let me know.
