Terrible!
June 9, 2022

Phone support is nonexistant (2 + hr holds). They don't answer emails and it takes months to respond to mail communication. They don't let you edit your own information to correct it. Need to send in Form 5512 and it takes months. Useless! Of course there are no other options so they have no reason to provide reasonable service. Stinks!

Customer Service is Severely Limited
June 8, 2022

Two hours or more wait to speak to a representative. Phone lines available from 8 am to about 2 pm only. They close the lines early due to the high call volume. I called at 8 am and was immediately told there was a 2 hour wait. Most issues are concerning locked accounts. The phone message says that they updated the website to allow for a retry if the account is locked, but this is not true. Please hire more representatives and fix the complex login/lock out issue.

A one star rating is too high for Treasury Direct
June 7, 2022

It's next to impossible to get past the worst antiquated login system that I have ever encountered. Customer service must be non existent. I have decided it's too big of a risk to invest money with Treasury Direct because even if I could get past the crazy log in procedure, I may not be able to do it again to access my account and my money.

Cannot edit bank account
June 6, 2022

TreasuryDirect does not allow you to correct an error you may have made when creating your bank account information. They require you to fill out a paper form and have that form signed in person by a bank officer. Our bank is out of state and we cannot travel to have a form signed. Furthermore, their customer service phone line wait times a 2 hours or more.

The Swiftest End To an Investment Ever
June 3, 2022

I heard about these I Bonds, and about the awesome interest rates, so I decided to give it a whirl. I created an account and arranged for monthly withdrawals of 25.00 dollars. I figured that I would see how it worked out; and if it was a positive experience, I would plan to increase the investment amounts. I started worrying when the first payment was not withdrawn on the date specified, from the bank account I had designated,. Then the nightmare started. I used their contact form and asked why the funds hadn't been withdrawn yet, and asked when they planned on doing so. I received a reply via email that they were receiving lots of emails (no kidding!) and that the only way they could address my issue was for me to send them an email after signing into my account. Fine. Except that after logging in, there was no place to send an email from, logged in or otherwise, except in the "Contact Us" section. So I called. The automated voice informed me that they were receiving more calls than usual (ya think?) and that I would have a two hour hold time. It continuously encouraged me to log in because the website had been updated. Uh, just when did that happen? The last time I looked, that website was in serious need of a face lift. The archaic log in page was seriously frustrating to use. So I decided to log in to check on something else. That was when my credentials suddenly were no good. No matter how many times I entered the exact same login information I was told it was wrong. Finally I was locked out of my account.

I decided to call back and endure the two hour wait. When I finally got through, the woman I spoke with really had no idea why my payments had not begun. Here I was, all excited to take advantage of the awesome rates offered, only to be locked out. She unlocked my account and then suggested that the problem might be with my bank. She advised me to call my bank to see what was up. As we spoke, I attempted to log in again. And was locked out a second time. I told her and she sent a code for the second time. I tried logging in with it. At this point she informed me that we would be cut off soon, because it was closing time. I begged her to hang on so that I could log in. The most she could do was preemptively send out one more unlock code before hanging up. I used it and still could not log in. Then came the dreaded message. You have tried too many log in attempts. You are locked out. Yea! I will stay locked out.

If you decide to use this website, be prepared to become very, very frustrated. Until you want to pull your hair out by the roots. How is it possible in this modern age, that such an archaic website is even up and running? And how is it possible that the customer service is this abysmal? They want you to buy bonds, but they don't want you to find it easy to contact them after you have given them access to your bank? You can set up an account, but God help you if you actually need help with it. I am going back to an old fashioned savings account.

The worst customer service
June 2, 2022

We're locked out of our account because their repeated security questions were not answered correctly. The call back number is a big fat joke. They close at 5, and will not put you on hold in the queue after 2pm mountain time. That's 3 hours before they close. This is totally unbelievable, they can't work past 5. This makes this whole system a big joke, and typical government bureaucracy, where no one cares. This is so stressful

You have GOT to be kidding
June 2, 2022

Unbelievably horrible site and even worse support. Because there is none.

It it going on 6 weeks and I cannot get thru. I opened an account and used my legal address. But it didn't happen to be the one at the time I files my income tax. So I was locked out of going further.

After 4 times of 2+ hours on hold (yes... 2 and more hours) where one has to listen to the constant sound of the phone ringing (yes really... and the voice saying ever 30 or 45 seconds how important my call is to them) I had to hang up. I did get thru once (after 55 mins and what was the 3rd of actually 5 calls) only to be told TD is not the one who can verify my address, change my address, or even delete the not-yet-activated site. So I am stuck.

So per TD, I land-mailed the information some other (non-. Gov) service requires to approve me (or not!) yet still get a "you are not approved... send in the following information" if I try to log in. If I try to open a new online account... I get a message that the account exists. Well, I DID send the info but there is no way to contact the service which does the verifying to know where it stands. I just tried TD again. The message says wait time is 2 hours and 45 minutes. The hours for the TD.gov site are very short, only work days, and only during work hours; which makes calling in even more difficult.

Unfortunately one can ONLY get I-bonds thru TD. Not the bank(s) or any where else. Horrid, horrid, horrid. Even for the government.

Website access is absurd
June 2, 2022

The unavoidable 2+ hour wait time to have someone fix a locked account (which is nearly unavoidable due to absurd website security features) is an extreme disservice to those who have invested money in the federal government. After five failed attempts to get through, I woke up early and called four minutes after the phone center opened, only to be told the wait time was already 2+ hours. How is that possible? Fix it, Treasury.

Customer Service is a Blackhole
May 29, 2022

Since my paper bond is series E, my only choice to redeem to to submit it via mail. I received and email with a case number and they'll respond in 4-6 weeks. After 6 weeks sent multiple emails to customer service, with the standard reply "we're busy, we'll get back to you." Tried calling the customer number, but like others I was on hold +2 hrs with NO RESPONSE. I'm not sure theres anyone that actually works there? To send am email from your "account" you must open a financial account with them - but from everything I'm reading I refuse to open anything connected to my bank.

It's been +8 weeks - I just want to redeem my $25 bond! But at this point it's not worth it!

Has anyone actually gotten through to them and redeemed a bond!?!?

2010 website in 2022
May 29, 2022

This site has not been upgraded in over a decade. Once you go through the "secure" process of logging in, complete with "secret image" and a virtual keyboard (!), you're in. Well, if it recognizes your browser, otherwise you have to wait for an email and enter another secret code. Once logged in, navigation is a NIGHTMARE. You must click their buttons or you'll be logged off. Once you get to a list of your investments, it's a drawn-out process to find the information you need. It is impossible to sort the list by such sensible entries like date issued or maturity date. To find out about your prior holdings you have to negotiate your way through multiple pages to find the one you want. Heaven help you if you accidentally press a key on your keyboard! Once you get to these lists, you CANNOT DOWNLOAD your holdings or your transactions. I literally had to create pdfs of each of 37 pages, run them through OCR, then clean that up.

But back to the "security" for a moment. Virtual keyboards are passe. When you have to click each virtual key, you're not going to create a secure password. No option for 2FA or other measures that have been available for a decade.

Every time I log off the site, I'm presented with a request for a rating. "Poor" is the only appropriate option, but apparently I'm in the great minority (4%).

I needed to vent. I'm so frustrated and they're no longer taking feedback, which they never responded to anyway.

Almost impossible to get help
May 24, 2022

My account is locked. I called Treasury Direct only to hear their voice message first saying my wait woukd be 2 hours. After 30 minutes the message said 90 minutes. After another 30 minutes the message was 2 hours, then 45 minutes then 30 minutes, then they answered and hung up on me. I sent an email to which they responded they would not read my email unless I was logged in but I am locked out.

Takes an Act of God to fix any problem with this system
May 23, 2022

I gave Treasury Direct my Savings account number instead of my Checking account number. My financial institution requires these types of transactions be done from the Checking Account. They wouldn't let me change it on-line and required a form be completed in front of a "Medalion" level person from my bank and then submit it by mail. It took over 10 days for them to respond and their letter said it might take up to 15 weeks. What bozo runs this place. I tried to call the support number and they said I would be on hold for 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Redeeming mature EE Savings Bonds
May 22, 2022

After purchasing EE & I bonds for years, redeeming them now is a nightmare. I submitted 17 mature EE bonds in March and got an email stating it will take 6 - 8 weeks for my money to be deposited. It's now more than 8 weeks and although I've written emails including the customer & case numbers as requested, I get the same computerized "do not reply" letter in response. I've called the phone number given but that doesn't work either. Customer service is nonexistent. I'd like to know what I can do to get my money.

TREASURY DIRECT STINKS
May 20, 2022

I tried to send a gift bond to my Grandson after 11 days it was bought but could not. They say it has to be 5 days. I guess as they can't count as well as not answering the phone after an hour on hold. I wish they would go back to the good old days when the banks could issue a US Saving Bond in five minutes. I will not be buying anymore savings bonds.

I have been trying to change may linked bank info now for 6 weeks and all I get is the run around. And since I complained 4 weeks ago about the time it was taking, they now claim that my account was not "authorized" and that I need submit docs I submitted last year when I opened this account. Absolute rubbish - resubmitting these docs will generate another 6-8 week delay. Even with the now high interest rates for I-bonds, I would think twice before investing with this terrible organization.
