Beware of renters and the favor given to them
September 13, 2023

I went and spoke to the owner of a 3 car garage with all the spaces available. I thought it would be a good choice based on neighborhood and location. The gentleman was soft spoken and acted very sincere while conversing. I explained that I have a restored antique vehicle that is insured. I initiated the $278 payment for one month and he accepted. Later that day I drove the car over and parked it in the garage. Later that evening I received a text from the owner with a picture of two drops of trans oil under the car. I was told to remedy the leak or remove it tomorrow. I offered to place a special absorb matt under the car...that wasn't good enough and next the renter stated there were toxic fumes coming from the vehicle causing his wife headaches. I knew exactly the type of Karen this person was and there was no way I'm leaving my $100K+ vehicle in that garage. I went to remove the vehicle the next day. Upon removal the guy complained that there were tire marks left on his pavers. I asked if he had a brush so I could show him it can be brushed away. He was'nt satisfied because he could still see faint lines. I asked for a bucket and put dish detergent in with it and brushed the pavers with a broom he provided. He said that's good. The next day he sends a picture and message saying there's oil drops on his pavers and I have damaged his property. He also writes a message on the neighbor platform...albeit previous exchanges were via text...not recognized by the neighbor platform. He asks what I'm going to do about it. After speaking to neighbor representative and requesting a full refund less the service fee due to the renter...that essentially demanded I remove the car since the remedy of placing a catch matt did not appease, I discovered they would not recognize text exchanges nor refund my money because "I canceled the contract"...even within 24 hours under those circumstances they would do nothing to help. At first I was nice, and said I could remedy the areas of concern with my pressure washer, but after paying a full months rent for one night I decided that Karen could clean his own areas of concern. At no point before the rental was there anything that I saw that a vehicle that had a leak was prohibited. Beware of this company doing the unequitable thing and beware of scammers that know how to manipulate the system to keep your money.

Terrible experience! Do not rent here!
June 22, 2023

I lease a detached garage space & was to have the key left in a mutually agreed place. In 6 months was only able to access 1 time as host continued to claim boyfriend lost or misplaced the key. Finally I decided to just terminate lease & host became rude & threatening when I arrived at mutually agreed time to begin move out claiming again boyfriend lost or misplaced the key. My help arrived and host located the key, I observed host had access blocked with her own lumber & storage items so was unable to remove motor vehicle. When I advised would be back to remove before end of month and term, she stated she was leaving town till following month & I had till next day 830 am to get all my property out & stated the Neighbor company would pay for towing and moving, so I con tacted Neighbor platform and was told that was not true & they could not assist & that host decided to evict me even though I was completely paid up through the
End of month. Now I am forced to litigate my damages as also observed rats eaten destroyed 2 boxes of my property & standing water was all around the storage space. The company refused to mitigate my damages and the insurance they claim to have for damages was a hoax and they did nothing to assist or mitigate my issues w/ access to even remove my property so host locked me out and kept all property I was unable to remove inside of 18 hours. This detached unit was supposed to be my space, but host used for herself & family, denying me access for 6 monthd except for one occasion. The Neighbor company did nothing but apologize for what the host did to me. Now we are in litigation & I have been scammed out of my property stored and rent completely paid for. Do not rent from this site!

I needed a parking for my truck for just one week. I was able to find one but Neighbor only works per month. So I agreed to pay for a month instead. There is a promotion that if you rent two months, you get the first month at half price. I didn't want that but it's something they automatically apply.

They charged $62.16, which is $50 (half month fee) and their service fee.

I used the spot from April 17 until 24th. You can't reserve the spot and automatically cancel when you pull out. Cancelling is a hassle. Get asked a lot of questions before you can cancel. None of the options is "don't need it at this moment" or "will use it in the future again" all choices have a very negative tone "storage space is not good", "renter did not have a good service" and so on. I informed the renter that I had to cancel, while I only wanted to suspend for a month.

Then immediately after canceling, Neighbor charged $62.16 again. I asked for a refund of the difference of the original price which was $100 (rent) and $14.95 fee while they charge me a total of $124.32.

They won't do that because I rented in April and part of May they said. They can ask the renter who can confirm that I moved my truck out at April 24. It's just a scam and they hide behind "company policy". Well Neighbor: your company policy will just bring it to the ground because it's just like a gym subscription where you hope that people will forget to cancel so you can keep charging even when it's not used. I won't use their service ever again and hope this will show others to think twice before trying it out and be stuck with more fees for a longer time than required.

Update: the renter contacted Neighbor and they decided to refund 50% of the second charge. They wouldn't refund less than $10 but they do $31.

Changes their contract to favor them
April 28, 2023

Renting property on this app is a joke. They don't adhere to their policies or signed contracts. They "make exceptions" to their policies to keep money they should have paid out. Scam. BTW they only have 5 employees

Creepy Overreach
April 27, 2023

I listed on neighbor.com for over a year and had good renters and flaky ones as well; overall experience is no better than using Craigslist for free. Forget about neighbor.com's claim that they provide "protections". The major problem with neighbor.com is that they try to limit communication between you and the prospective renter by blocking phone numbers and blanking certain text in the messages that you send through their platform. I get that they want owners to collect payment through the neighbor.com app, but they stifle business by choking communication between owners and potential renters to arrange for viewings and to negotiate rental amounts.
Recently, I got creepy passive aggressive messages from neighbor.com asserting that I was going around the app, when I was doing no such thing. After a few of these incidences, neighbor.com completely lost my trust and I am much happier with my alternatives. Neighbor.com needs to let go of their insecurities and build trust in users if they want to do well as a company. If the company has an inviting platform, people will use it. For now, use Craigslist for free.

This company is my worst nightmare! They took a full month rent. I was denied access to the garage I rented. They refuse to refund. Then they sent through a second monthly charge 2 weeks later! How is that even possible!? Please do not let them do this to you! They have an average of 1 star on the reviews!

Despicable and unethical
April 20, 2023

The app has scammers on it. My vehicle was towed from the parking spot that I reserved through Neighbor. I'm now 6+ weeks without my vehicle. I have a $7,000 tow bill and the loan company is threatening to reposes the vehicle. Neighbor has taken zero responsibility and managing this whole stressful ordeal has turned into a part-time job. I'm playing musical chairs between Neighbor, the host, the tow company, the cops and the loan company.

Most importantly, I repeat: Neighbor has taken zero responsibility.

I would highly suggest to run from this company and never risk using them. The money you think you're saving can very likely backfire.

Neighbor.com (Its A Total Scam)
March 8, 2023

This is a review of Neighbor.com. I wouldn't give them even 1 star but have no choice. I came across an ad looking for a 2 car garage space in Rio Rancho, NM. The owners name is Jerry T. I sent a message and said he responds within 3 hours, I never heard back from him at all, the customer service agents are from a loud call center from overseas. They kept trying to get my credit card or bank card numbers, I knew something was wrong right away and I didn't give them any personal or banking info. I was just called today back to back 3 times from a lady at their call center, I've blocked all their numbers, emails, etc. This is a Total scam with fake pics of garage spaces, parking spaces, etc. Don't waste your time and money.

Do not use this site, they are basically scamming customers through obscure wording, false or invalid customer service phone numbers, complicated cancelation procedures, hidden fees, and more. They charged both myself and the homeowner twice then added fees because we didn't keep the spot the next month.

There is a homeless person who has been living in my car since god knows when. I rented the space over 3 months ago and the host messaged a few days ago saying he saw someone enter the car saying they knew me and it was ok. He didn't believe the individual but couldn't call the cops because he wasn't the owner of the vehicle. He never called me at this time so I could collaborate! A day later I came to view the vehicle and found what looked to be a homeless persons belongings, weird white stains, booze bottles, cigarettes (smoke smell), suitcases and other miscellaneous items in the car. This person had broken into my car and stolen the cover I put on top. There were homeless people cleaning up and posting up the area around in bunches, it was a colony. When I called the host I laid it on him. I asked why he didn't call me? I asked why he didn't call the cops to remove the homeless? Why he didn't have surveillance or security? When I asked if he saw the homeless person items in the car he said "he didn't notice". This man has been cashing out on payments from multiple cars on a unsafe location. I spoke to one homeless individual who said he was cleaning the place to "help out" for all I know the homeless were being welcomed for the cleaning service they provide. I am unable to contact Neighbor until Monday to clarify my rights or protection and have heard others have been screwed as well. The host takes no responsibility at this time for the damage to my car and it is ruined. Unacceptable on this hosts account and Neighbor. Us renters need to have recourse and reciprocation.

This is a disaster waiting to happen!

Renting from unbonded people leads to problems. And whatever you do make sure you sign out not only with the customer you're renting from but with the company. The person knew I moved out but continue to take my money for three more months! The company Stretched and gave me one month back because I pushed for it. This is just wrong. Don't risk your money. Go with a bonded situation, don't rent with pedestrians who can just take your money. They basically told me they couldn't pay me back because "how would there renter feel about that?" Oh yeah definitely stick with the person who stole the money. Bye Felicia.

SCAM SCAM SCAM
October 31, 2022

This smells like a scam, and acts like one. First of all they want a credit card just to ask the owner where the garage is. The owner must "approve" a "reservation" in order to communicate and then the credit card is charged. In my case, the "owner" did not actually control the space and tried to switch me from a garage to a covered space. In the meantime, Neighbor charged me for the 1st month's rent. I tried calling the 801 number on the credit card charge but there apparently is no such number. I emailed support -- nothing... The "owner" is still listing garage as available however. SCAM!

A second owner tried to limit the times I could access the garage to a 4 hour slot 5 days a week with advance notice.

AND WHILE I WAS WRITING THIS THEY CHARGED ME FOR SOMETHING ELSE!

Total waste of time and, obviously, at best a hassle to get a refund for a product that doesn't exist.

Active Scam going on
October 6, 2022

My host Robert Ward forced me to give him keys and used my card for several months. Added 2000 miles on it and unlimited toll tickets. He blocked me. And app will not take any responsibility. Ronald is still host on Neighbor.com even after i filed a complaint. There are other hosts like Robert, actively scamming people. Robert is verified host and told app that he never drive vehicle even though he had they keys. App took his side. But i am sure court will make right decision.

Stay away from this awful app. You and your belongings are not safe.
