Meals On Wheels

We live in the richest country on EARTH! Yet we treat our elderly like dirt! I found my self in a postion of not having ANY ONE to get groceries for me - so i HAD to eat to live. ( bad neighbors) I m a disabled vet of the 60s and need help ONLY in getting the food. I tried this Meals On Wheels thing. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! They will only deliver one meal a day always around noon and the first three have been REALLY cad! - Cheap starchy unhealthy stuff - vegetable cooked into almost mush - desert right in with the hot food - sometimes real fruit in quantities you would give a 2 year old - very very small portions - the cheapest ingredients tasteless ingredients. Etc etc - if chicken always the dry tasteless white meat etc etc.

And the delivery people are impatient. They know I am crippled and cannot get to the door quickly. My father would had my $#*! if I had treated a disabled elderly person my age like that 0 but today? We just throw our old people away like used tampons. Yesterdy - i was in back room on mu computer - ( I am a writer) - when heard the doorbell. I IMMEDIATELY got up ( always difficult I have lost my wife and children and am alone. Ten seconds later the doorbell rang again! He HAD to have been told I was cripple! Then as I nearing the front door - maybe a half minute later - the phone rang. I coud see ot a friont window - it was the delivery man. As i was only about ten feet away from the front door I could see him get in his car and drive off - and the worst thing was that he didn't even leave LEAVE MY FOOD!

That is just plain cruel! Why would MOW use such an uncaring delivery man as that in the first place!. Btw - I did have to pay something for my 'meals' - if you call them that. Image the WORST TV dinner you EVER bought at the store - probably better than I got. I AM NOT A DOG! I AM A HUMAN BEING who has given and given to my community and country and its defense of freedoms

An agency offered me meals on wheels following my surgery. Seemed like a good idea at the time since I was not able to do much for myself. Wrong. The unseasoned, unflavored, low quality, bizarrely sauced glop neither provided nutrition nor healing. It depressed me as the days went by. At least I was able to add condiments and flavor where I could and rinse the bad-tasting mystery sauces off the meat. Terrifies me that someday, I might not be able to do this in my future. I cancelled it. Wasn't worth continuing it to get small cartons of milk for coffee.

The food dose not pass for diabetics plus the lady cause trouble in our apartments very rude they to stop this service

Meals On Wheels are Vindictive to the nth degree@ those who complain about their meals! You've been warned! I Strongly Suggest that You Check out if you can other Meals on Wheels complaint reviews! Once a 'Client' is on their "hit" list Meals on Wheels never forget! Hell on Wheels happens for good! Never relenting their vindictiveness malware's!

The meals are prepared by different churches in my area. You can tell. Some NEVER give meats. Others have tiny scraps of meats mixed in with what seems to be whatever could be found and mushy pasta. The combination that is mixed together is something you know they wouldn't prepare for their families even with better quality ingredients. 80% of the meals are not for diabetics—which many seniors are—as they are low quality starches boiled to a mush for the main course and a white roll or cookie. Now you have the exceptions on healthy meals, tastiness, and quality. As I said they are prepared by MANY churches in the ares. Some stand out for giving dignity to the seniors by giving decent food (a cheeseburger, pot pie, spaghetti WITH meat, etc.). If the donations in one city are distributed evenly, why are some delivering boiled pasta with random things like olives or nuts mixed in, while others (probably about 15% of the time) are giving tasty, good quality meals with a protein? That 15% are giving something they might give to their teenagers for a quick meal—which is fine. Nobody is looking for gourmet or perfect nutrition or huge serving sizes. Just looking for average food that will curb the hunger and has a real protein component. Not pasta mush with weird additions. 1. We're humans. 2. If some churches (the 15%) can do it they should all be able to in the same area as the donated funds are distributed evenly. It also would be nice to have the same good meal twice. As it stands there is no coordination between these churches besides delivery. I have been receiving for 2 1/2 months and have only had the same thing twice. Sounds good? No. It's a variety of the pasta mushes mostly (super overcooked pasta with a surprise addition that is not meat or scraps of meat. Just a note, really appreciate the delivery guys and gals. I am currently physically unable to prepare meals most of the time. The delivery people are kind, one even brings homemade cookies—you get a few that are intrusive beyond the purpose of delivering a meal. I mean if a recipient wants to socialize, they will. If a recipient wants to have you familiar with their home, you don't have to stretch your neck or take advantage if a child answers the door. Maybe many recipients would be more talkative if the delivery people wore mask. Only two out of about 15 that deliver to me do, and the elderly and those with comorbidities are at high risk for deadly affects of COVID19.

Healthy food needs to be spiced up for some of us, but I understand some folks cant use spices salt or pepper. Many days I depend on my meal. Some days few I try to cook. God bless meals on wheels. And thanks so much.

Do not donate here. These people do not give meals to anyone. They give some of their $ to big delivery organizations but not the small ones and overall not much at all.

My mother used meals on wheels while recuperating from a broken hip. After only 2 weeks she canceled the service. The meals were unacceptable. She was paying for a lump of disgusting meat not fit for a dog, green beans which turn rubbery when microwaved. The same meals each week. You need to do better for our elderly and disabled. You can buy a better meal off the dollar menu at McDonald's.

I really appreciate that people are willing to donate to a cause such as this and that there are so many wonderful volunteers, but have they tasted the food? My 95 year old mother was just writing "YUK" on the tops of the meals, so I tasted one, and oh my gosh it was the worst I have ever tasted. It seems so disrespectful to the elderly. In Sacramento CA the food is in plastic trays that the recipients are supposed to microwave. What is left after microwaving is 60% WATER. It just doesn't seem like it would cost any more to make a delicious meal than an inedible meal.And these are truly inedible.

Process food high sodium spoiled not fresh when I set up service I was asked what kind of meals I needed I told them no processed food low sodium they said not a problem what I received was high sodium processed food and spoiled food I canceled the same day I got a callback they were trying to convince me to stay with meals on wheels they also lie to me telling me that they had chefs and they were preparing fresh foods to order that's not true what I got was spoiled food that no human being should be eating. The meal is ok at times, fruits can be damaged (see orange picture below) the people that deliver the food are sociable sometimes; but, if you ever have to talk to those that work at the location, good luck! They can certainly be replaced... Whenever they answer the phone, they make you feel like they are doing you a favor by answering the phone. Perhaps, they forget they have a job because of us...

Eating out the trash can was less disgusting then the garbage they give you everything about this organization needs to be investigated I been through hell and back from third world countries to prison and still have not seen anything that compares to these garbage meals they give you, the food is raw old and not packed right the box comes wet and leaking the garbage people that deliver throw the box against your door like your less than a animal I have a camera in front of my door and a bunch of pictures I took of the garbage they deliver I'm just waiting to hear back from a couple of news channels

Some of the meals were very good and nutritional with meat, vegetable, and fruit. Then it gets so bad the food is not edible. For example hot chilli powder and chilli peppers. Would you feed a child something like this! Or FROZEN boiled egg dried toast for dinner, or pumpkin in scrambled eggs, or worse sour milk in scrambled eggs, or ham and bean soup with lime. For barbecue chicken the sauce is Heinz 57. Yuk! I go to pick up my frozen meals the person that delivers to my vehicle doesn't wear a mask.

I thought this would be a wonderful thing for my Mom who is 89 years old. She tried it for 2 days. She told me the delivery people were awesome but that the food was inedible. She showed me an orange that was kind of hard and was discolored. She had a sandwich and whatever lunch meat they had on it was actually grey in color. She describe her meatloaf meal as dried out and hard. It didn't even look like meatloaf. I then went on this sight to see what other peoples opinions were and when I saw pictures submitted of the food and the comments. I was horrified! You should be ashamed to serve this to our elderly and housebound citizens. It seems, for a lot of people, this is there only meal of the day. Someone, the director, Tom Milinger perhaps, should really look into why they are serving this quality of food and then patting themselves on the back.

Just got a call from Meals On Wheels I had made an application for my mom she is 83 yrs old and lives alone. Has limited ways of going to store can't cook for herself. Well they said they couldn't help her bc if any of her family is able to take her meals then they can't help. I told them really her neighbors caretaker is there with them all day and they get meals on wheels. Their daughter lives across the street also. My mom is alone all day and all night especially now my husband and I are 67 and we have a lot of underlying healt problems which drs don't want us taking chances of going out I have gone a couple of times to leave her meals on patio my mom has really serious heart problem and she fell not to long ago and can barely walk bc of her arthritis and I told them that and they did said sorry I bet if we were rich she would be helped. And I was go king y to o start donating money I don't think so I'll give to St Jude as have been and that's it
