Ordered Ontario excellent services through your movinghelp.com.
We were asking that they move one couch, one loveseat, three ikea universal bookshelves, and two ikea bedside mirror stands. So only 7 pieces of furniture!
I accept contract for $150 on February 25th, 9am.
What follows:
(I have all texts and images of destroyed furniture and lies, as well as 2 times he did not show as promised.)
I rent a 15 ft for a small move for a 1/2 day. It had to be ready for movers to be there at 9am.
He says they will be there Monday. I said no it was booked for the Sunday. He said no it was for the 25th. I said I know, the 25th is Sunday!
Nothing back.
He texts me, so are we loading and unloading? I said of course - (why else would I be hiring movers?)
-
Are we loading the stuff in the trunk and unloading them in your new house
Is it loading and unloading
He then texts much later. Now needs more money to come. I said the contract was for $150, and he says he has to pay his guys, hes coming from Toronto and its only logical. I Told him that I know its logical that he has to pay his guys but he accepted the contract and thats what we agreed upon. I
Said that he knew my location, and they shouldnt have accepted if they needed more than the signed and paid in full contract.

We are in Toronto Scarborough and it takes us about 1.5hr to 2hrs to get to your place so we can't travel all the way just for 2hrs pls you will need to pay minimum 3hrs.
It's not said on the form but it's just logical. I have to pay the guys for travelling and for the job too
Sometime we just have to do that because some clients book for 2hrs and at the end of the day it takes more hours to complete the job. We are a 2hrs old company and trying to expand our market
I livechat chat movinghelp and got Adam each time. Adam didnt like to stay online and ended our chat multiple times before I had any resolution. I have the text from each one.
Adam said that they were not allowed to ask for any more money after the contract and it goes against their terms and conditions, and that he would email them or call them. I told him that I wasnt very happy and that if I was going to be asked more than the agreed-upon contract afterwords I wouldve preferred to pick somebody local or had the opportunity to pick somebody local.
I didnt hear anything back, so we got up at 8 oclock in the morning and went and rented the truck for 9 oclock and brought it back and waited. He did not show.
9:02 in the morning, we get a text from Desmond. He cant make it there for 9 oclock, one of his guys cancelled.
We asked him when he could show up because we only have the truck for a half-day and he said 1pm. Again, he did not show.
I texted him, and no reply.
We got into uhaul live chat, Adam says he will contact them. Boom, we get text at 3pm and he is stuck in traffic. I ask where he is - no response. I ask again, he says just 401. I said where? Toronto, Guelph, Cambridge? Hes still on the outskirts of Toronto. I said so another hour still? He says not even. An hour and a half later they show up eating take out, and come up to the apartment.
For the first 20 minutes of being there, him and his big friend had me in my apartment alone and telling me how I got them in trouble with you all, and how U-Haul is going to pull his business and that I shouldnt have written because that information was between him and I
I reiterated the fact that they accepted the contract for $150, and I told them when we talked earlier that they accepted the contract for $150 and I dont understand why there are extra charges. I said had I been notified when I signed the contract that there would be extra charges, and paid for the extra charges at that time it wouldve been a different story because I wouldve been notified of everything upfront and had choice to decide on whether or not I would stay with them or hire a different mover. He said are you gonna pay me the extra money or not?! I said no, I already paid the contract for 2 hours of moving and had it in writing, and that he needed to take it up with uhaul if they are accepting contracts they cant afford to complete.
Each time they didnt show or demanded money, I notified Adam at movinghelp.com. I even gave them a $300 portable apartment dishwasher in excellent shape (had one at the new place and it was currently on kijiji) hoping that they would be satisfied with that and perhaps the tension would break. They put it in their little car after discussing it amongst themselves in a different language.
It was quite intimidating and I asked them to finally decide whether they were going to move my furniture or not for the agreed-upon contract or I would need to find somebody else. And he said well he drove all this way of course he has to move the furniture. And then we proceeded to follow was laughable at best considering my 115 pound daughter could pick up the shelves, they struggled with them and destroyed them. I have new IKEA furniture, bookshelves that converts into desks, all of them a nice dark wood colour and in great shape, and I had warned them in advance what they would be moving, with a list and the move was considered to be quite small when I spoke to anybody.
I had three IKEA shelves, all of which I couldve move myself easily, I had a love seat, a leather couch, a box spring and a mattress, and two bed side mirrors. That was all of the heavy furniture that they needed to lift. While we waited them through the two no-shows, my daughter and I had moved everything else onto the truck. We had already made two loads to the apartment of smaller stuff, as we only intended to have the guys move the big stuff that required a little more muscle and dexterity.
Even though we had rented a dolly, they only used it for two pieces of furniture and instead chose to drag and move our shelves on a hard rock driveway and then slid them down the rough grooved inside of the uhaul truck, scratching the absolute crap out of them to the point where Im going to need to have them refinished, and even though I had 60 foam squares that interlock that they couldve put these on, they did not use them. They didnt bring any blankets, they didnt bring anything to help them with the move, no straps for the mattresses, no tiedowns nothing. We demanded at the end that we could place the foam squares under each thing they moved. We would help them figure out how to move furniture (pivoting through a full sized loft door), and they still wouldnt listen until many unsuccessful attempts and is with our hands over our mouths and eyes, as we listened to the furniture take the brunt of it.
The first piece of furniture that they had to move was a leather couch, its not an oversize coach, but it does have a recliner at it and I admit it can be challenging, but they had absolutely no concept of putting it on one end, on a pad a dolly, and pivoting it out the door. They tried to move it through the doors carrying it and two and scraping it all along the walls and wearing off all of the leather on the top corners, and aligned of removed leather down the back of it showing the white underside. They wouldnt pivot it, instead spent over 15 minutes trying to shove it full faced through a door, kicking and shoving while the top hinge of the door was being torn. This was through the moving doors provided, where my daughter and I had previously much of our other large stuff without issue. They then tried to flip the recliner couch over the top of the loveseat, bending the tops - not couch seat to loveseat seat, but the entire couch on the back of the other. They didnt grab it by the frame as we always have, they grabbed them by the cushions, ripping them. You could hear the coach squeaking against the wall as they pushed and shoved it and instead of trying again or listening to us tell them how we moved into the apartment to begin with they just kept shoving until the material gave way.
My daughter was downstairs in the truck, and I was upstairs in the apartment as was my son-in-law who showed up after we notified him that we were having troubles and we were feeling intimidated. Each time they damage something, we showed it to them while they were moving and Im sure they could tell that I was visibly upset, and they didnt seem to care one bit. They took a chunk out of my apartment wall I am leaving and will now need to repair. They also broke the suspended ceiling in front of my door where they rammed my couch through the ceiling.
Instead of using mattress straps to move my bed, or even the dolly, they chose to instead rip the protective plastic cover on my $3000 Tempur-pedic memory foam mattress that I bought for the move. The mattress was flawless and in pristine condition, and stained it with dirty handprints and dirty edges where they dragged along the ground. The edges of the box spring that was wrapped, dragged on my floor and scratched it. I had a ramp they could have pushed it up! They were struggling with the furniture, visibly winded. Didnt use the dolly for my selves and instead, put my finished shelves on a rocky driveway instead of the pads we provided (I had 24 full sized padded foam squares which could have easily been under or between every item. The shelves are the kind that can be used on any side, bottom or top, but each one is now scratched and ruined to the point where that is no longer possible. Deep gouges on each one. They are ruined. Again they didnt even acknowledge that theyd done that, and instead would flip them so the bad side was down, and now leaving the other side to be dragged.
After just 47 minutes (I had my timer going after the 20 minute discussion he gave me) he said after this shelf we are going to go. So after one couch and loveseat and three shelves, that was my two hours of moving. I said no... there were the two bedside mirror shelves and then they would need to unload!
They load them up (and I use the term loading loosely as they were all banging together as I drove). And the offload was equally as awful. My mirror shelves they tried to move through the hall doorway carrying each and and banging all along the walls, instead of standing it upright and just pivoting it and using the furniture dolly and now those too are damaged and the tops now at a very odd angle visibly. Again, we did the loading and unloading of everything else. They often just stood in the truck talking.
When it was time to leave, I wasnt about to argue and get into another debate, as I said, it was very intimidating. He said nothing about the damaged furniture and just left.
I am beyond upset! I paid for this uhaul recommended service!
My couch and loveseat were $2700
Each shelf was $199 (x3)
My mirrored shelves $170 (x2)
Damaged walls
Scratched floor
Damaged ceiling
This was absolutely my worst moving experience ever. Theyve cost me hundreds of dollars! What will be done over this?
