What a disgrace! Stopped my CC the same day, just after reading all of this. I am out US $1- I suppose I can live with it, but I am challenging it. Of course, inconvenience of new CC number from now on.
This Megaflix thing has hijacked my computer through a newsletter that I get regularly. I am unable to view most of the items in the newsletter without popups stating that my Java is outdated and I need to up date now. (My Java is not outdated) It is a crude looking popup, simple letters in a plain white box with a square that says "Update". Then I keep getting quick flash bys like htlp//1b. Yaxzby. Com, or something similar; it comes and goes so quickly that I don't have to time to write it down. Than I'll get another box that says some like that again. I can see "Megaflix" faintly in the background and that is how I determined they it has hijacked my computer. I am able to get out of it by Xing out of the newsletter where it appears. This has been going on for several weeks and I can't figure out how to delete it. There is no X to close it or anything. I hope this is not happening to others. It's a nightmare. L
SCAM! SCAM! SCAM!
That's the only word I can think of to describe this company its bogus "offerings." We wanted to watch a particular movie online tonight, went to the website for that movie, and found a link to a Megaflix page offering free membership for online movies. We were a little suspicious about their asking for the credit card information. I called, and when I finally got a live person, I asked about their guarantee that no charges would be applied unless I "upgraded to a premium membership or purchased something." When I asked how they guarantee that, I was told that after a 5-day trial period, I would be charged $49.95 a month. (THAT was the answer to the question about the guarantee that no charges would apply!) There was nothing on that link. I did find that information about that when I went to the specific metaflix.net website, but I had to comb through the excessive verbiage on "terms and conditions" to find it. Luckily, we hadn't entered any cc info. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR ANYTHING WITH THIS COMPANY!
A big thank you to the other reviewers for confirming our suspicions.
I just created an account but thought it was funny business that they would require my cc # and cvv # as you only ever need that when you are purchasing something. So glad I came to read reviews before giving this scam of a company access to my what little money I do have!
I was looking for a movie and the Megaflix website promo said it had the movie. I signed up, searched for the movie but they didn't it. I canceled my subscription that same evening, even had a big 'canceled' written across the screen. I should have known it wasn't canceled when I did not get a receipt in my email. I too got charged. They say they will refund but what a scam - no movie and charged $49 for believing their website - twice!
Got suckered into trial but i cancelled account day I opened just saw the $49 charge and flipped out called them at *******731 as shown on their site and the automating asks if you want to cancel press number then says the no refund spiel I keep pushing numbers until I got a live person then keep on them until they said it was cancelled and refund issued I will see in 3 to 4 business days which will be about Sept. 3rd or 4th if they are telling me the truth.
Site is linked to putlocker free movie service but it's all foreign or b type movies nothing main stream.
I got suckered too. Forgot all about this site until i saw my CC statement! I nevet downloaded any film. They are betting that you forget to cancel your subscription so they can take your money. This site should be shut down permanently.
Absolute sham a total rip off... disgrace that tbis company is still able to steal our money in this manner... i am involved in fraud action to be taken by my bank against these robbers of our hard earned cash... 30 pounds has been stolen from me for a service i never signed up for just browsed. I am involving trading standars and anyone else i can contact to stop this firm from doing this... STAY AWAY from MEGAFLIX they r CON ARTISTS
Signed up for free streaming, etc, THEN checked Google. I know, I did it backwards. After reading the reviews I immediately called the number provided on their website to cancel membership (canceling online included a minimal $0.99). I was directed by automation to enter my credit card #. Each time I entered it I listened to the automation to read it back to me. I put my # in 4 times and each time the number was 'read' back to me, it was incorrect. I think it was programmed to do this to force people to have to cancel online. After seeing that others were charged a fee even though they cancelled the membership (one the same day), I intend to call my bank first thing Monday to insure there will be no other fees charged to my account. Lesson: check out companies BEFORE joining anything.
Utter $#*!s! They say free. That just means free access to your bank account. Just found a £31 payment to them on my bank statement which I had no idea was to happen, I never even watched a movie or tried too. Stay well clear. MEGAFLIX? MEGA$#*!S MORE LIKE!
Rip off! Says no charge to your credit card but unless you cancel within 5 days you get charged £30 and they operate a "no refund policy". I called and spoke with a lady called Erlie once I saw the charge on my credit card, I said that they had completely ripped me off because there was no mention of charging me £30 and now they were refusing to refund me the money and she agreed! My calls are all recorded for work so when I pointed out that she had just admitted that I had been ripped off on a recorded call she said "yes sir". They know exactly what they are doing steer clear!
This site is fake. They are a company in Great Britain & had it not been for my bank calling me immediately after
I clicked verify, I wouldn't have known. After entering my
Info, I received a message from Megaflix stating I must have made an error entering it because they couldn't
Verify it... then the bank called! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO
NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFO!
I got suckered into the "free" trial, thought I'd cancelled but got no confirmation, then got my credit card statement with both the $1.03 & $ 49.95 US charges. I called to cancel again and they said it was done. Here's hoping that no more charges show up - seems like it would be a nightmare to attempt to get a refund. I've resigned myself to the loss of the (over) $50, but no more. Stay away from this site!
They are crooked, DONT USE THEM! They say absolutely FREE with no charge to the customer but they charge you $1.03. I cancelled 15 minutes after signing on cause I couldn't find any movies i was looking for and then i decided to watch one they had and it came up saying the movie wasn't available and then I tried to watch another one and the streaming was awful... So i called and cancelled. I noticed the charge on my account a few days later and called them... I was told 24-48hrs would be refunded... 6 days later nothing. I called back, they then said you will see the refund the following day... nothing! I called today same excuse from the third different person. I know its just 1.03$ but its the principle that bothers me... bad business. Gives you a unsettling feeling that your being ripped off. If someone tells you something is absolutely free but reaches into your wallet and grabs a dollar without you seeing them do it, wouldn't that bother you? I'm calling my bank tomorrow for fraudulent charge and the BBB.
Thanks for the update! I was saved by the info here. I signed for the free membership. Luckily I cancelled the same day. I would not have noticed that after 5 days of free, they bill you like 50 dollars. Then they want to charge you 99 cents if you cancel online. It is free to cancel via phone though. I think this is just to make it as inconvenient as possible.
I live in Finland and registered in there. Wanted to watch online stream one ice hockey game and didn't even find that game. Registered, should be free. Needed to call in there, called, seemed to be pretty decent customer service and promise to get refund 1-15 days. We will see.
DO NOT USE THIS SITE. DON'T GET FOOLED BY THE FREE TRIAL. ONE MUST CANCEL WITHIN 5 DAYS. I AM VERY ANGRY RIGHT NOW. I NEVER EVEN GOT AN EMAIL FROM THEM CONFIRMING AS IT ENDED UP IN MY SPAM FILE.
I am stationed in Germany through the military. Wanted to be able to watch tv shows from the states since we don't get much here. As soon as I registered, it said that my account was under investigation and I couldn't access it. Yes, they also pulled money from my account which i wouldn't mind if I could even watch the shows in the first place. FYI hulu, netflix doesn't work outside of the states.
Stay away from the site! As all other postings, they will take your money
Don't use Megaflix. It falsely tells you that it is free, they only ever send you one Email that shows the price is $0, then in the bottom in faint gray it says that if you don't cancel in a month they will charge you $50/month. Then they burst charge - charging for 3 months over a month, then skipping the next few months, then charging multiple times again. I think it increases the likelyhood that you miss that they are charging since their name isn't on your bill every month.
Be careful of this site - the page I signed on at said nothing about a free trial for 5 days and neither did the confirmation but when I got nervous after giving them my credit card details I looked at the terms and conditions and discovered that I had to cancel within 5 days or be clobbered for 50dollars a month. The range of movies is pretty rubbish too and if you go here: http://www.scambook.com/report/view/*******/MegaFlix.net-Bait---Switch-for-50.00-on-10-19-2011 you will see they have lots of cases against them. They have already taken a small amount from my account.
