What Joann Fabric is doing could be considered Bait & Switch. Buyer Beware!
October 28, 2022

Below read the on going email stream I've been carrying on with Joann Customer Service. To read chronological order start at bottom.
No satisfaction at this time. No resolution.
BUYER BEWARE - COUPONS ARE DECEIVING/ CONFUSING
SALES AND DISCOUNTS HAVE LOOP HOLES

I DID NOT have an in-store transaction.
1. I picked up my online/ pick up in store purchase. (Paid at time ordered)
2. I received a coupon spend $15 in store get $5 off.
3. I attempted to make a purchase IN THE STORE using coupon.
4. Clerk refused coupon saying it was buy online.
5. I left without making purchase.
6. I placed an online order today using coupon $1.99 flat rate shipping.
I FAILED TO SELECT COUPON TO READ ADDITIONAL FINE PRINT INFORMATION STATING ADDITIONAL HANDLING FEE.
I just clicked on apply to cart. JOANN FABRIC PULLED ANOTHER ONE OVER ON ME.

Needless to say, I'm learning there are to many loop holes,
Bait and switch (refer to my very first email where I stated I went in to shop of decorating fabrics, planning to use a discount coupon ONLY TO FIND OUT
The decorating fabrics were on SALE 30% off UNADVERTISED!
I had searched the ads to see if I could use the coupon for decor fabrics.

I sincerely apologise for the confusion. Would you be able to provide me with your in store receipt for the in store transaction? There is an additional handling fee of $1.95 that now is standard across all shipped joann.com orders, even if you are eligible for discounted shipping. It does appear that the current shipping and handling charges shown on the order, is correct for the $1.99 shipping.

On Thursday, October 27,2022, My Response:
Maybe I was not clear in my explanation. I got my pick up order separately, then was attempting to make an additional purchase in the store using the discount coupon of spend $15 and get five dollars off.
My online / pick up order in the store was already paid for.
Island shopped and found items I wanted to spend using the discount of purchase $15 and get five dollars off.

Now, I have another issue, I just looked at my online order purchased for delivery.
Joann fabric advertised $1.99 for an online order shipped to my home. On my receipt I have just noticed that I did not get the $1.99 and I did apply the discount on my order. (FOUND OUT THERE'S AN ADDITIONAL HANDLING FEE THEY DO NOT REVEAL)
I was charged $3.94 shipping. If you go back and look at this email stream you will see my order numbers.

Customer Service:
Thank you for contacting JOANN. Unfortunately, it does appear that the coupon code for the $5.00 is for in store purchases only. This means that the code would not have applied to the pick up order, as this would be considered to be an online order. We would not be able to honour this code on any online, or pick up order.
(I WAS NOT TRYING TO USE IT FOR MY PICKUP ORDER WHICH WAS ALREADY PAID. I WAS TRYING TO MAKE AN IN STORE PURCHASE) We will be sharing the details of your experience with our Customer Experience team, as well as the local Store Leadership team responsible for this particular location in Myrtle Beach, so that we may ensure that your concerns are addressed in the most appropriate manner possible. You can rest assured knowing that our team members remain committed to providing our customers with the best experience possible and that your feedback is in good hands.

We love to hear from our customers as we are always looking for ways to better our service, and your feedback is an invaluable part of that process. We thank you again for sharing your feedback and hope that you will visit us again soon.

Sincerely,

JOANN Customer Care

Store location: Myrtle Beach, SC NEW STORE
My Comment:
Only been to store three times and EXTREMELY disappointed.

1st trip to check out store.

2nd trip took my daughter, who was shopping for decorator fabric on Friday, Oct. 21, with 50% off coupon in hand. Once in the store we see that all of the decorator fabrics are on sale 30% off. This was NOT in the sale ad or email I received. (Made me think of a bait and switch) I took her in there thinking we would find her fabric and purchase it half off. NOT!
Sorry to say we went to a specialty fabric store and got fabric even cheaper than what Joann fabric would've been 50% off. Your loss!

3rd Trip -
I went online and placed an in-store pick up order.
I was able to pick up my item, after standing in line for 20 minutes, there were 12 to 14 people in front of me, with only one checkout clerk.
At one point the manager had to come do a price check for the one register clerk that was open. (this also held up the checkout line.)
He did not call for more help and he did not stay to help at the checkout.
Finally, the clerk called for back up.

With My online/pick up in store order I received a coupon for purchase
$15 get $5 off.
The coupon would not scan off my phone At the register, therefore, the clerk refused to give me my purchase with the discount.
Needless to say this completed my third trip into your store, I probably won't be going back. I can place an order at home, have it delivered to my home, at no extra charge and no hassle. (THIS TOO PROVED NOT TO BE TRUE- I USED THEIR $1.99 SHIPPING BUT THEY DO NOT TELL YOU THEY CHARGE A SEPARATE HANDLING FEE)

Tip for consumers:

Watch, read, review ALL Sales and coupons. Don’t be surprised if when you get in the Joann Fabric store you CANNOT use ANY of the great discount coupons because everything you want is already on sale, but NOT as good of a discount.

Sales are more important than satisfied customers
February 22, 2021

Online order couldn't be fulfilled. A substitute was made. Now it's my issue to return or reorder!

Tip for consumers:

Customer service was responsive but unable to really do anything. My issue is with store policy. They should have notified me they were sold out of the product I ordered, so I could have ordered something else or cancel my order. Instead, they would rather have a sale than a satisfied customer. After 25 years of shopping there, I'm done.

Products used:

I was refunded for the wrong part of the order, and plan on returning the correct part. It was yarn for a project and it all needed to be the same color, but instead they sent me half of the color I ordered and then the other half a totally different color.

Extremely Short Staffed
December 25, 2018

I work for Joann Fabrics mainly on the cutting counter and then as a cashier at times. I am not surprised by the negative reviews. To understand why it's so bad is mainly we are very, extremely short staffed most of the time. Register 1 looks like customer service which confuses some customers. There is no dedicated customer service. Any cashier can do a return. So there is no customer service, only a register that looks like one. Register 1 is also responsible for answering the phones. It seems the phones ring the most when the line is the longest. They expect you to ring up customers while also being on the phone. When you are on the phone, the customers are more likely to ask you a question because I have to move slightly over to be on the phone and it looks like someone is standing at the customer service box more so. Why do they think I can check people out, talk on the phone and answer customer service questions at the same time? I have three people talking to me at once. This is normal. Joann needs to stop being so cheap and get customer service. I can't hear what the person on the phone is saying if you are trying to talk to me. Why do people try to talk to me when on the phone? At the cutting counter, if we don't clean up after each customer it would be very unmanageable to cut, we would have no room to cut because the mess would get so big, so the reviews complaining that they are cleaning instead of helping them, the manager gets really on your case if you don't clean between customers too. Buy online and pick up from stores, and ship from stores: I think this is a very bad idea. Warehouses are better at doing this faster. The store is doing the work. We are already too short staffed for stocking, cashiering and cutting. We barely have the personnel to be your personal shopper and wander a huge store and find your items and put them in bags for when you pick them up. The store is very messy, and there isn't the staff to clean it up and fix it up. If we close we spend an hour and a half cleaning up, may 6 or so people doing the cleaning, but it's still needs probably another 3 hours of clean up. Things are poorly marked so you don't know the price. Which causes a bigger mess because when they finally find out the price they don't want it. I see tons of stuff out of place and it's so annoying. There have been times that I wasn't even scheduled to be a cashier, the line was super long, and I am the only one cashiering it feels like. Maybe one other person. Makes no sense since I wasn't even supposed to be cashiering to begin with. I could go on and on about so many things. They want cashiers to do returns when the line isn't long. Or they send cashiers to do projects around the store. When the line gets long, they come back to help cashier. Problem is, is the store is really big, the line forms from only 2 people to 10 people very quickly. It takes time for them to come back to help cashier. I am constantly stopped by customers to ask for help. I would be already doing a task or looking for something for another customer and two more customers will ask for help when I am already helping someone else. I feel like it's rude to say I'm already doing something for someone else, most of the time I just stop what I am doing and help them, but that may be also rude to the other people who are waiting. It's really crazy how frequently I get stopped for help. I can't walk an inch in there without someone asking for some advice. They really need more people in the store to help out. Joann is a store that you could save a ton of money in if you knew how to work the system. As an employee I know how to work it. Basically if you have ten regular priced items you can use 10 coupons in the same transaction. Only one coupon per item though. You can get coupons through the app, mailer, text and email. People complain that everything is one sale though, so you can't use your coupon. It's usually just the seasonal decorations and the floral department that is always on sale. The fine art, notions, and clay are rarely on sale. The fabric and other products rotate on and off. Only one total transaction coupon per transaction, for example only a 20% off total purchase coupon, it won't pair with a $15 off $75 coupon. They have 60% or 70% off coupons sometimes too. Those are even better to wait for. It seems Friday nights are our slowest nights oddly, so if you have trouble with lines maybe try then. Joann also gives the cashiers too much power. I can price adjust anything, by a lot without a manager override. I worked at another store, and there the cashiers just cashiered. They weren't expected to go do projects all over the store and do returns. That department would come and get their returns and put them away. I feel like if there was a staff responsible for each section of that store only, maybe the store would be cleaner, and the cashiers could cashier. Maybe that is a fantasy because we can be so short staffed. They hired enough people, but don't give them the hours. Then their pay is lower than a lot of other retailers on top off that. The managers can kind of sort of be very rude and disrespectful at times. We also have a radio in our ears and hear everything that is going on in the store. All the conversations from all employees to each other. So on top of talking to three customers at once I have to listen to that chatter. I feel like the management doesn't pay attention to important things too. One register malfunctions where it makes a beeping noise like it scanned, but it didn't scan. That means I have to constantly watch the screen to make sure it really rung up. But this is register 1 that does this. I have to tilt my head at a weird angle to watch the screen, I have to answer the phone, and ring people up, listen to the radio, and answer question to people who think it's customer service. If the line is really long, I could feel pressure to ring faster and not pay attention, especially if it's a large transaction. Management knows register 1 does this, but to them it's not worth their time and attention. Weird. They are probably losing a lot of money this way. Massive shrinkage. The management is rude and puts pressure on us to do a bunch of things and fast, but if they did their job we wouldn't have so much work to do. Label items so people know how much it costs. Label it correctly so we don't have to price adjust it and take so much time to find out the real price. But, NO. They just spend their time being rude and obnoxious to their employees instead. Their low pay shows how they think so lowly of their employees. The app does have a new feature where you can scan products and find out the price. It gives the online only price a lot of the times though.
