I truly believe this is an indiscriminate scam. I'll try to make a long story short, the details are important. The lone survivor of my immediate family was murdered and I contacted several companies in my effort to distinguish who would be the most honest and capable, obviously I failed this time. This conversation really touched my heart and I decided to go with Fields. All the money that I had in the world to pursue this, keep myself alive and a roof over my head, was paid to Fields. Bad, bad decision! They couldn't even get past the passcode and it took some creative communication to even get that much of an answer. I have been devastated over this loss and sent a message to the owner/supervisor, the response from (The person who took over the contact) was a phone call and he simply said, "We're not returning your money. We priced it at a very low rate."
I couldn't believe $1500 was the least expensive that they could go, it's still unbelievable to me that they resorted to such a statement when I hadn't asked for my money back but instead wanted change in their system so that this didn't happen to people in the future. Don't get me wrong, the money would be exceptionally welcome and needed, I just did not want this to happen to anyone else.
It took over two weeks and a couple inquiries to get a response about the results, although I was initially told it would only be a few days. They did receive my package the day after I sent it, I didn't get it back until another two weeks after my supposed result. The thing I am not 100% positive about is whether or not they actually did anything because both devices were still on the same timeframe for the pass code as I had left them. I am going to contact reputable companies and inquire about all of these practices/results. I'm obviously disappointed in myself for buying into their sales pitch and going with a company, pretty much the only company without a moneyback guarantee. However, what they told me from the beginning was obviously a falsehood.With the response I received, the service etc. I'm completely baffled that they're still in business, that sort of practice is unacceptable from where I stand: unprofessional and dishonest. The process seemed pretty straight forward and similar to other data recovery companies. Ship them the drive and they will work to recover it. Almost immediately after filling out a form on their site on June 21st 2022 I received a call from [REDACTED] asking if I'd received the shipping label. I asked a few questions about shipping and recovery which she was happy to answer so I shipped the drive, what could possibly go wrong, they promised to return with shipping paid in the unlikely event they were unable to recover the data.
Three days later I received an email and a phone call from [REDACTED] where he said parts would be required to repair the drive which would cost a non-refundable upfront fee of $1,425 and an additional fee of $60 once the recovery was completed. This seemed steep so I asked for a few days to think it over, in the meantime I did some research and given the parts / labor required it seemed like a costly, but not altogether absurd amount.
On June 29th 2022 I receive an email from [REDACTED] who's signature reads "Head of EU & US Sales Fields Data Recovery" with no reference to previous estimates he informed me that the cost was variable, based on urgency:
Standard turnaround 3-4 weeks -- $960
Expedited turnaround 1-2 weeks -- $1300
Emergency turnaround 2-4 days -- $1620
upfront payment, non-refundable and an additional $89 would be due after recovery. He called me shortly after sending the email to ask if I had any questions, answering them with what now seems like a rehearsed spiel about how technician labor is costly, parts are costly and there are no guarantees in this business, I was duped.
After paying I tried reaching out by phone and email to all three and received no answer from any of them. Over 2 weeks later I received my device from UPS in the exact same state as I sent it, nothing has been changed or replaced on it. Given that nothing whatsoever was done on the device makes it quite clear that this is a scam, they take your money, hold the device for a few days and then ship it back as if nothing happened..

UPDATE: I've tried speaking to multiple people and just get the runaround. They are sending my original hard drive back, hopefully unharmed. However, customer service rep has told me since I agreed over the phone to the working list of what they recovered, not like I could tell if they'd be readable but they also showed to have files on there. But once I received the usb stick, none of the files had actual working files in them. Now, I'm being told there's nothing more that they can do since I agreed upon the recovered data. Absolutely DO NOT send your hard drive to this company. You will be out a lot of money with no workable data.

I would give 0 stars if possible. I filled out the online questionnaire and within minutes was contacted. Sent my hard drive in and was told it would be about a week. Sent the hard drive in on 4/28 and they received on 4/29. They quoted $1200 to recover the data off a 1 TB hard drive, which was reluctantly paid on 5/2. I was told the data should be finished copying over on the following Monday 5/5. Tuesday rolls around and don't hear from my account rep, I tried calling with no answer. Reached out again and finally talked to him on 5/9 and was told it was still transferring. Communication is severely lacking at this company. I'm then told that theres been a problem but I have not been told anything else. After calling and either not speaking to anyone or getting the runaround, 5/29 A MONTH LATER, I am told that the firmware crashed while transferring and they only have what was able to be recovered before the crash. I asked for my hard drive to be returned with the recovered data. I DID NOT receive my hard drive and received the recovered data (less than 1gb) on a 32 gb usb drive. I received MAYBE a quarter of what was on my original hard drive. Biggest scam!

My treatment by Global ledger was scandalous. They quoted me $695+VAT to attempt a recovery with no guarantee of success. If it was successful they would charge me an additional $195 to backup the data and dispatch it, even though I sent a brand new identical hard drive to copy the data onto.
When I politely declined the offer and asked for my hard drive back they were rude. When I offered to pay the $18 to return the item they provided me with an unsecure link to enter my bank card details. When I offered to pay by BACS they refused. We eventually agreed on a PayPal link that was so dodgy I had to lodge a concern with PayPal in case someone tried to fraudulently access my account.

When my hard drive finally arrived back it was incomplete. Literally just the inside of the hard drive with the motherboard exposed, written on with a sticker from another company stuck across the circuitry. No cover, none of the auxiliaries required to connect it with USB.

When I took the remnants of my hard drive to Curry's to see what they could do, they told me they would likely have to source some of these parts from an identical model before they could attempt to recover my data.

Fields Data Recovery therefore sabotaged my hard drive when I wouldn't pay their exorbitant rates for their no guarantees recovery.

You have been warned. I only hope you are reading this before you send them your hard drive. I only wish I took the time to read the other bad reviews about this company before I did.

It's been almost three months now and no results. First, they do something about promising mountains of gold. Last month they ignored me and did not answer me for about 6 days, I wrote emails to them but completely ignored me. I wrote a complaint on this site and on the same day, they responded back. They apologized and explained the situation. Now again I write to them but they do not answer me again, a complete ignore. They play with us.

They are no closer to getting my money back now as they were 2 months ago the number they gave me does not connect they e-mails sometimes get replied i get told they're busy yet i have had 3 case managers all have got the sum of $0.00 returned to me and i suspect the other 2 have most likely moved on so i would say DO NOT use this company for anything. Case manager from this company writes emails upon emails with Nothing recovered.
