There's no way to know for sure. Zoosk says they verify with Facebook, but I was in contact with someone that had found a person on Internet that was on Facebook and Linkedin and posted a profile using the other person name and pictures. The one I spoke to said he was from SF, the one he impersonated was from So. Carolina, same age, married. Not widowed. After I talked for a while and searched the web I found the other man who he had impersonated. Thanks god, I didn't meet him or give my address or last name.? BE careful!

In my experience, I met several real women that I had conversations with. I took the chance by giving out my phone this was after a couple days of the right questions. I asked for photos at work, play, and their children. All of which were verified. I did not have any issues with the ones that were recently online, had several photos, and started with basic get to know you questions and answers. I may have gotten lucky? I was only on for a short time, but found real datable women! That looked like their profiles! So, good luck and I hope you have the same good luck as I did!

Is true a lot of them are just empty shells lot of old profiles from many thousands who put up profiles who have long left the site. If it says they've been on recently then its more possibility that the profile is active. But I wouldn't waste any time messaging profiles that don't say they've been on recently. What i read online about all sites in general is that women if you're good looking woman you're going to get a lot of messages from hundreds of men. But a lot of men are just looking for a one night stand and sex so women get very tired of it and don't respond to any messages. This is what I've read.

You really can't tell without attempting to start a conversation (and not getting a response), but some are obvious fakes with "perfect" pictures and zero personal info in the descriptions. In the last 6-months with Zoosk, I received dozens of "hits" from Russian scam-artists, and the same 20 women viewed my profile several times per day (without sending me a message, or responding to my requests). I would be willing to bet that half the views you receive are from fake profiles or recycled profiles from former members. Many of the "winks" you receive are computer generated too. There are real people there, and some are very nice, date-able people, but you have to sift through a lot of garbage to find them :(
