Why do I see a business doing advertising on Nextdoor? I is not an individual but appears to be a business!

Nextdoor needs money to fund themselves, that really doesn't need to exist. It's like Obama's "common core" for kids, a total mess guided by incompetent people who have been blinded by $ signs.

Nextdoor is positively preparing to accept paid advertisement. Their goal was to get this off the ground this spring. I have not seen or heard anything more about that.
Until that program is underway, only "recommendations" for service businesses is acceptable under the mish-mash known as the Guidelines. In other words, one may not promote their own services or business, but others who have used your services may promote you as a "happy customer". Some neighborhoods may opt-in to permitting local advertisement, but very few do so. Advertisers may NEVER make their ad visible across neighborhoods under any circumstances.
It is SO HARD to enforce this. In practice, advertisers will sign up and immediately send several ads out to all nearby neighborhoods. In my time as a Lead, business owners would argue themselves blue in the face and insist on thinking themselves slighted when I have asked them to remove their ad and observe the rules. Nextdoor Staff will not come to the rescue since they regard the presence of ads as a sign of a Lead's incompetence. Even advertiser's complaints will be counted against a Lead! Leads are obviously volunteers, but Nextdoor treats them as employees, and will scold them, chastise them, and punish them as they see fit. You're stuck between a rock and a hard place, and in the long run, Nextdoor intends to make their forums feature ads anyway.
The only thing members can do about advertisements is to flag them until Nextdoor takes away your ability to flag, post, thank and welcome, putting you in "restricted mode" for annoying them.

Self promotion or unpaid advertising is NOT allowed anymore period even if it is only within your own neighborhood. Some of these answers are old news. This site is desperate for income to operate and have screwed that up too. These are amateurs running nextdoor at best.

Nextdoor Neighbor is a hundred times worse than Facebook... at least you could block someone on Facebook. The Leads are out of control, and Nextdoor Neighbor does nothing about it. It is CENSORSHIP at its worst. I've seen them delete comments that are in no way violations of posting guidelines, or deleting whole threads when someone is posting in it that disagrees with the Lead's opinions.
And btw... there is nothing that forbids political topics being discussed on Nextdoor... unless you get nasty with the people you re responding to and your comment violates Nextdoor's ridiculous posting guidelines, all subjectively determined by "Leads" in your neighborhood group.

We found that the neighborhood we were a part of (Greenhaven Pocket area of Sacramento) that if you were a homosexual, you could do virtually anything concerning business, announcements, or anything else because everyone was wanting to be politically correct. If anyone said anything about their unauthorized postings, the Lead Angela Wood, would abusively shoot it down.

I think this is just one big social experiment as the puppeteers out in la land of California watch ad neighbors RIP each other apart daily and demonize one another... yes eventuallt Nextdoor will spam you with all the sold advertising especially targeted to you from all that personally info they collected... But a no no for others to advertise on there... run from here as fast as you can. Nextdoor Did not develope sight out of goodness of heart.$$$$ is always the goal!

The moderator is failing to screen them out. Be nice when you review the guidelines then make a request of the business to refrain, per guidelines. Hopefully the moderator will remove the ad.

Ed, here is the current view from www.Nextdoor.com, right from the horse's mouth. The remedy you need is also offered in here.
"Can I recommend my own business to my neighbors?
While posting an unsolicited recommendation to your nearby neighborhoods or spamming one's neighbors with multiple, unsolicited messages about one's business is always forbidden, mentioning your business to your neighbors is allowed in many neighborhoods.
Nextdoor allows the Leads for each Nextdoor website to determine the specifics of what is appropriate for their neighborhood, as long as these policies are consistent with Nextdoor Guidelines. However, a typical policy might allow neighbors with a local business to do the following:
Mention their business in their introductory post
Include information about it in their profile
Make one post in the relevant Recommendation categories letting folks know about their business (including links to their website)
Respond when neighbors ask for a recommendation in one of those categories (as long as they are upfront about the fact that they own or work for the business in question)
It is never appropriate to post an unsolicited recommendation of your own business to Nearby Neighborhoods though responding to a request for a recommendation from a nearby neighbor is appropriate, as long as you identify your relationship to your business.
Please reach out to the Lead(s) of your neighborhood, if you are unsure about what is appropriate for your neighborhood.

Many Nextdoor Neighborhoods allow Businesses Owned by Members to have a one time ad OR have set up Public Groups where those Member Owned Businesses are welcome to Post their wares. The Basic Nextdoor Corporate Position is No Business Advertising period but allow Local control by Neighborhood Leads. Leads generally follow the pulse of the Neighborhood on these Business related issues.
Advertising across Neighborhood is Never allowed and the Nextdoor Leads do a great job at keeping this Business Aspect under control.
If Anyone has a Question about a Business Ad they received, a quick Private Message to one of Your Leads should clarify the local rules for Your area.
Flagging Business Ads remains the best tool to help Leads stay on top of it.
