I am thinking about posting a gig on Fiverr. I am curious about whether those who have found it worth the effort?

IF you happen to connect with a provider who is honest and forthright about his/her ability and limitations you might get some value. With that said, I tried four different projects and only one of the four was performed to my satisfaction. Two others were unusable and the fourth was a complete scam. Caveat emptor!

You have to select carefully. I've found a lot of duds from other countries (present themselves as English speaking but have no clue how to write an English sentence). I've been both a buyer and seller. Buyer - I only have to spend $5 to find out if they're a dud. Seller - $5 doesn't cover the costs of my work but, hey, it got me some work and testimonials that I have used for better/more work offline.

Basic concept okay, but execution awful. Nothing but problems with Fiverr. Four attempts to buy services got me nothing. On the last two they kept the money, altho no contact was ever made with the alleged supplier.
Be realitic: No one can afford to create something for $5 and wait two weeks for their money. All that could be provided for a graphic design, for example, would be some ready made stock item that they pull out of a file and send to you. Try to give specifics for a custom item and they ignore you. Then try to get your money back. You can't even contact anyone that will respond with anything but an automatic blurb. Read the endless list of complaints, and disregard the phony posted one glorifying the site.

Worth it to you, not worth it to the person you hire. That person will have to pay a percentage of their take to Fiverr, which will take a month to actually pay them. So, for you a win, because you will get to pay practically nothing for what you need and not have to pay any taxes. For the shlemiel who takes the gig, shameless exploitation in an impossible job market.
