I always pay through PayPal, in my country. So PayPal hold up to the country's consumer laws. I have a grip/security when spending lots of money.

Yet it is a scam in my opinion. Many of the "gigs" are put up by their foot soldiers who will not deliver anything and then will not refund to your Payment Provider. That is a voilation of the credit card industry or PayPal. So you just need to initiate a dispute through you CC company or PayPal
