It's a Chinese based website. It operates somewhat like eBay except that there is no buyer protection. There are individual sellers, each selling their own items. The seller who I purchased from sent me a shipment that was missing pieces which were advertised in the sale. When I asked for a refund, I was told to send the incomplete order back, which I did with a tracking service, but was never given the refund. So the seller kept my money and got his/her merchandise back. DHgate does nothing to help a buyer who has any problem with an order. I would stay away. Stick to eBay or Amazon where there is buyer protection from scam artists.

I find it strange that this question keeps occurring. It doesn't make any sense the question itself. How can it be a scam when the organisation is very similar to Ebay and is Ebay a scam. This organisation does exist and I have experienced a very bad encounter with them - I hope this answers your question.

Imagine it like a Chinese Ebay. DHGate is a real site. They have different sellers everywhere. Some more trustworthy than others. I personally haven't had problems with it.

Dhgate is a real website but there's a 98% chance you will not receive the product you ordered, because it is damaged, poorly constructed, or missing items. You have a 99.999% chance of not receiving a refund even if you follow their refund/dispute procedures. They have Facebook page and any negative comments about this company or even irate customer's comments are deleted by Dhgate.

This site is real but they never helped about a refund. They lie by saying that we did return. Stay away!

DHGate is a scam site, as far as my experience with them goes. One of the very few positive responders for DHGate says the site is OK if you "buy smartly". But, what does that mean? What can you "smartly" do after receiving the wrong merchandise, and encounter stonewalling/lying in trying to exchange, return or get a refund?

It is real but as another said, there is ZERO protection and it is Chinese so they will no do anything against their own Chinese sellers. STAY AWAY!
